1 TWO YEAR DIPLOMA IN TEXTILE AND APPAREL DESIGN Eligibility: 12 th Pass SEMESTER I PAPER-I Textile Science Course Code: DTAD-201 Theory Exam: 75 Int. Assesment: 25 Introduction to textile fibers, classification of fibers based on sources and origin, basic textile terminology. Manufacturing process and properties of different natural and man-made fibers:- cotton, jute, wool, silk, rayon, acetate, triacetate, nylon, polyester and acrylic fibres. Classification of yarns, types of yarns and yarn properties. Yarn manufacturing process: ring spinning, rotor spinning and open-end spinning. Different methods of fabric formation and terminologies. Weaving:- Parts of loom and their functions, main operations in weaving shuttle less looms. Basic weaves:- Plain, Twill, Satin and their variations. Fancy weaves:- Dobby weave, jacquard weave, leno, extra yarn figuring, pile weave and its variations, double cloth. Introduction to knitting, terms used in knitting, difference between knits and woven, types of needle, types of knitting. Basic weft and warp knit stitches, kitting machines. Production technology of knitted fabrics and garments. CAD, CAM and automation in knit wear. Defects in knitted fabrics, finishing requirements of knitted fabrics. Quality control in production of knitted fabrics.

3 PAPER-II Fundamentals of weaving and knitting Course Code: DTAD-202 Graphical representation of weaves:- preparation of design, weave repeat unit, drafting plan, and lifting plan for all weaves. Preparation of different basic and fancy weaves samples on card board. Preparation of loom for weaving: creeling, winding, sizing, warping. Preparation of samples on the handloom.
