3 Foreword This new catalogue prepared by the Emblem Division, provides a complete list of American Legion (pages 1-29) and American Legion Auxiliary (pages 30-36) insignias and supplies. The Emblem Division is primarily a service division. It is YOUR division maintained for your convenience. Prices are fixed on such a basis as to give the purchaser a share in the advantages of the collective purchasing power of The American Legion. Profits derived from the operation of this Division are paid into the general fund and accrue to the benefit of the entire membership. The hearty support of both the Legion and the Auxiliary is most essential to provide the utmost protection to both emblems, which are copyrighted and patented. A resolution passed by the second annual convention requires the Emblem Division to operate on a strictly cash basis, prohibiting the acceptance of charge orders. 12 OFFICIAL AMERICAN LEGION GRAVE MARKER Emblem Patented December 9, 1919 An exact reproduction of the Legion emblem 7 inches in diameter, equipped with a solid brass rod 30 inches long. The back is made with a raised plate effect for engraving or casting the name, rank, organization, etc. Lugs are provided, drilled with holes, to accommodate a small flag. 23 Post Finance and Membership Records These records, which are an absolute necessity to each Legion Post, were especially designed to meet the Post s individual requirements in maintaining a permanent and correct membership and finance record. Because of their simplicity, they require no special knowledge of bookkeeping or accounting and complete instructions are included in each set. These records come in two different forms, one having a light press board binder while the other is bound in a heavy quality of binder cloth and equipped with genuine leather corners. Each set of records, however, is composed of two binders, one containing an individual member s record sheet and the other containing the necessary financial record sheets for the correct handling of your Post s finance problems. The sets equipped with press board binders are furnished in the following sizes and at the prices indicated: 100 Members $ Members Members Members Members While this particular type of record could be compiled for a Post having a membership in excess of three hundred, and at a price directly in proportion to the above, we do not recommend it, the use of additional binders. is as this would necessitate In explanation, three hundred ledger sheets just about the maximum number that can be bound in this lighter type of binder. For the larger Posts, we have had designed a heavier type of binder having genuine leather corners and index tabs, which is the last word in accounting forms. These sell for 2%c each. Because of the particular construction of the binders in these larger sets, extra filler sheets can be added from time to time which will more than adequately take care of the largest Post, and in this way provide a complete and permanent record, requiring but two binders. The filler sheets are identical in all of the above forms. These are described on the next two pages.

The balance brought forward, plus the total checks drawn, will give the daily entry for balance. The total of the Deposits column should agree with the total of the Amount Received column on Form 101, and the total of Check column should agree with the total amount of check column on Form 102. Sheets 101 and 102 may be totaled and ruled off each month and Balance only be carried forward on Form 103 and totals not accumulated for the entire year s period. Members Ledger Form 105 Members Ledger Is a Record of Each Member s Account To start system use one full sheet for each member; this will prevent your carrying dead accounts and will make it possible for you to maintain the alphabetical feature of system. Post your balance from old records, using black ink to indicate a charge balance and red ink to indicate a credit balance. Keep Your Old Records When an assessment is voted or new dues fall due you should set up a charge against each member. Post credits from your cash receipts record. If a member gives you a check which the bank does not honor never fail to charge it back to member on his ledger account. Play Safe Record every penny of cash received and make all disbursements by check. By all means see that your remarks are comprehensive enough to make future reference positive. Make all entries as transactions occur. Your books are a history of your business..

Every Unit Should Have a Stand of Colors Size 3x5 feet Emblem Patented June 1, 1920 Copyrighted June, 1920, The American Legion STAND OF COLORS: The National Executive Committee of the American Legion Auxiliary have adopted the stand of colors consisting of a United States Flag and an Emblem Banner. SIZE: The standard size of Auxiliary Banner and United States Flag is 3x5 feet. COLOR: The Unit Banner is blue; Department, white, and National, red. MATERIAL: The silk flag and banner is made of heavy banner silk of the quality known as U. S. Government standard. The woolen colors are made of a high grade of all-wool fast color bunting known as Sterling flag bunting. SPECIFICATIONS: The silk U. S. flag has sewed stripes and silk embroidered stars. The woolen flag has sewed stripes and sewed stars. All Unit banners are of double thickness material with the correct wording reading the same on both sides. Silk Unit banners are lettered and decorated with pure gold leaf. The woolen banner is painted and is lettered with cut and sewed letters of gold colored satin.
