1 Gold Wire Paper Clip Chain Wire Jewelry Making Pattern #103 More Jewelry Making Patterns at Supplies Needed * Approximately 4 feet of 21 gauge 14 karat gold filled square half hard wire or brass practice wire * Red rouge Tools Needed * Round nose pliers * Flat nose pliers (the size of your links depend on the width of the pliers) * Chain nose pliers * Wire cutter or flush cutter * Large wooden dowel * Dremel with extra wide buffing pad (Optional) Step 1 Work right from the coil of wire and cut off the links as you go. The length of the link will be determined by the width of your flat nose pliers and the width of the end of the link will be

2 determined by the thickness of your pliers. The idea is to make the link end wide enough to tuck the end of the wire into this hollow. Practice a few links at different places on your flat nose pliers until you get a link that you like. Then mark that spot with a Sharpie pen. Grasp the wire at the very end and position it on the mark on your pliers. Next turn it in half. Step 2 Work right from the coil of wire and cut off the links as you go. The length of the link will be determined by the width of your flat nose pliers and the width of the end of the link will be determined by the thickness of your pliers. 3 Cut a piece of wire about 3 inches long. With the large part of your round nose pliers make a loop in the center of the wire by wrapping the wire completely around the pliers. Step 5 With the tip of your round nose pliers make a small complete loop in the opposite direction directly below the large loop with one of the wires. Using the same point on the tip of your round nose pliers, make another complete loop with the other wire in the opposite direction. The two small loops should be side by side. Clip each of the wires long enough to make a complete circle. Then gently press the two small circles together with your flat nose pliers. NOTE: The small circles should have a whole big enough to slip a wire from the paper clip through it. Step 6 The finished clasp. Step 7

4 Take a 4 inch piece of wire, mark the center, and, using your flat nose pliers, bend the wire in half. Squeeze the tip of the bent wires together tightly using your flat nose pliers. Using the middle part of your round nose pliers, make a loop about 3/4 inch from the tip of the wire to create a hook. Step 8 With your round nose pliers, make small curls in the opposite direction of the hook. Trim the excess wire to make two small complete circles. Press the two loops together with your flat nose pliers. NOTE: The small circles should have a whole big enough to slip wire from the paper clip through it. Step 9 With your round nose pliers, bend up the tip of your hook for an easy way to get your chain on and off your catch. Link your hook onto a "paper clip" link and hook link to link to the length of the chain desired.

5 Step 10 An easy and safe way to polish a handmade wire sculpted chain is to wrap the chain around a large wooden dowel about 3-4 inches in diameter. Wrap the chain around the dowel several times and holding it firmly in place, polish with red rouge with an extra wide buffing pad on a Dremel. Don't over do the polishing.
