1 EPCH conducts Seminars on Banking & Finance in collaboration with Exim Bank Bangalore : 10th April, 2014; Mysore : 29th April 2014 EPCH, Southern Regional Office, in collaboration with the Export Import Bank of India, organized two seminars at Bangalore and Mysore in the month of April Bangalore Mysore This seminar focused on Foreign Trade Policy, Banking and Finance for small industries and ECGC. It was attended by rosewood inlay manufacturers and agarbathi manufacturers. Mr. Vishwas, Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade, explained the salient features of the Foreign Trade Policy, especially the Focus Product and Focus Market Schemes. He showed the audience how to make online applications for claiming benefits under the two schemes. The seminar at Bangalore focused on 'Banking and Finance, Foreign Currency hedging and Export Credit & Guarantee Schemes. Mr. Dhananjaya, Divisional Manager, Canara Bank said that, owing to its significant contribution to the country's employment as well as GDP, the MSME sector needs financial support. Special benefits for this sector include liberalized rate of interest; concession to women entrepreneurs; CGTMSE coverage for loans up to 100 lacs; rate of interest concession of 0.25% for all accounts covered under CGTMSE; preshipment and post-shipment credit. He also informed the participants of the features of Canara Bank's schemes. Exim Bank s Regional Head, Bangalore, Mr. B N Pranesh, informed the participants of the marketing initiatives of Exim Bank, especially in the handicrafts sector. Mr. Pandian, Branch Manager, ECGC, Bangalore, spoke of the ECGC activities and the types of risks covered by ECGC. Mr. Manjunatha, Divisional Manager, Canara Bank, Mysore, informed the participants of Open Cash Credit; Micro financing for joint liability to handicraft and agarbathi manufacturers; Laghu Udyami Credit Card; Composite loan scheme; Artisan credit card; Export Finance : Pre-shipment and Post-shipment; and nonfund based limits - bank guarantee and letter of credit. Mr. Pranesh, Regional Head, Exim Bank, Bangalore, and Mr. Pandian, Branch Manager, ECGC, Bangalore, made presentations on their respective organization s schemes and benefits available to exporters.

3 Seminar on Sourcing of Fashion Jewellery & Accessories for Export 9th May, 2014; Kolkata Mr. O P Prahladka, Regional Convener (Eastern Region), EPCH, initiates the seminar Interaction with artisans as well as exporters at the seminar This was organized in the EPCH s Eastern Region Office at Kolkata. Present on the ocassion were Mr. Sanjib Kumar Das, Associate Professor and Centre Coordinator, NIFT, Kolkata; Mrs. Susan Mantosh, reputed designer and owner of CITI Mart, a Chain store in Kolkata; Mr. Bikash Dey, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, O/o DC (H), Kolkata; Mr. Punit Srimal, CMD, SinGem; Mrs. Anjani Kumari, Faculty, inifd; Mr. O P Prahladka, Regional Convener (East), EPCH; and Ms. Amla Srivastava, Designer, NCDPD. The objective was to support the creation of sustainable products, encourage supply chain innovation, ensure that event sourcing does not negatively impact communities or environment, increase proportion of locally sourced products and materials, maximize use of recycable goods, and maximize use of goods from manufacturers with fair labour policies. A total of 23 artisans participated in the event with their products like, imitation jewellery, various types of bags, ceramic crockery, assorted wooden handicrafts and silk sarees. Mr. O P Prahladka, Regional Convener (East), EPCH, initiated the seminar and highligted the importance of handicrafts in contributing to rural economy. Ms. Amla Srivastava made a detailed presentation on the trend and forecast for Mr. Sanjib Kumar Das, while reviewing new trends elaborated about new lines and styles. For jewellery he suggested inspirations from minimalist, bohemian, tribal & industrial trends. Mr. Punit Srimal, CMD, SinGem; Mrs. Anjani Kumari, Faculty, inifd; Smt Susan Mantosh, reputed designer and owner of CITI Mart chain store in Kolkata, discussed about their institute and activities. Mr. Bikash Dey. Handicrafts Promotion Officer, O/o DC (H), Kolkata, spoke on planned and harmonious growth of industry, technological up-gradation, creation of new employment opportunities and development of new designs to make these sectors economically sustainable, to ensure proper working environment and easy access to health care facilities and insurance covers.
4 EPCH conducts Seminars on Promotion of Exports, Trends, Forecast, Visual Merchandising and IHGF Delhi Fair-Autumn a curtain raiser The Council conducted seminars and interactions in various cities to guide member exporters on trends, forecast and visual merchandising, for promotion of exports. Issues concerning the trade specific to the city/ region were also taken up. The Council also presented a Curtain Raiser on its forthcoming IHGF Delhi Fair-Autumn 2014, which has been revamped and renamed. Mr. Lekhraj Maheshwari, Chairman, EPCH interacted with the participants and apprised them about latest trends and forecast prevalent in the international markets. Mr. R K Verma, Director, EPCH, spoke about revamping the 18 year old IHGF. He detailed about the fair and its various attributes like, new concept, larger display area, comprehensive display categories and new display structures. Mr. Kumar proposed formation of a core group of Aligarh member exporters so that exporters come forward to find a pragmatic approach to place their problems before the Government and find out concrete solutions so that the exports from the cluster can be increased. During interactions, the classification of handicrafts and the proposed new definition of handicrafts was shared. During the seminar Ms. Amla Srivastava, Designer, NCDPD, made a presentation on Trends for 2014 to 2015 along with the details of materials, finishes, textures, etc. She also detailed on the new aspects of the upcoming IHGF Delhi Fair. Mr. Prince Malik, Vice-Chairman, EPCH concluded the seminar with a vote of thanks to all the participants with a special thanks to Mr. Dinesh Chandra Varshney, Secretary, Aligarh Exporters Association for their kind support, and said that Aligarh city also has a potential to become a Mega Craft Cluster like Moradabad. 31st May, 2014; Meerut Mr. Lekhraj Maheshwari, Chairman, EPCH, welcomed all the participants and briefed them about the Council s activities and the re-conceptualised IHGF Delhi Fair- Autumn Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, EPCH, apprised the participants about EPCH s constant efforts to solve problems of handicraft exporters in Aligarh and conducting seminars, workshops and open house meets on various important issues. He emphasized the crucial role of Aligarh manufacturers and exporters in exports. Government support to the sector as well as schemes for promotion of exports were discussed at length and day to day issues like electricity, pollution control, manpower, development charge, VAT exemption for handicraft exporters, MDA scheme of Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, container freight subsidy, etc. were put forth. The minister assured his office s support.
8 Seminar on How to become a Successful Handicraft Products Producer / Vendor / Supplier 6th June, 2014; Kolkata Mr. O P Prahladka, Regional Convener (Eastern Region), EPCH, initiates the seminar A seminar on How to become a successful Handicraft Products Producer / Vendor / Supplier to successful Exporters & How to become a successful Handicraft Exporter using own Production capacity or by Merchanting & Merchandising" was organized on 6th June, 2014, in the EPCH s Eastern Region Office at Kolkata. Present on the ocassion were Mr. Unus Molla, Strategic Analyst & Member-Fortune Business Leader Council USA, Director- International Management Centre; Mr. Amitabha Ghosh, GM - DIC, Kolkata; Mr. Purandar Sengupta, Consultant, Artists Welfare Trust; Mrs. Susan Mantosh, Reputed Designer, Owner of CITI Mart, Chain store in Kolkata; Mr. A K Hota. Asst. Director, O/o DC (H), Kolkata; and Mr. O P Prahladka, Regional Convener (East), EPCH. A total of 80 participants marked attendance. A total of 24 artisans participated in the event with their products like, imitation jewellery, various types of bags, assorted wooden handicrafts and silk sarees. Mr. O P Prahladka, Regional Convener (East), EPCH, initiated the seminar and highligted the importance of participation in trade fairs as they allow entrepreuners to experience the range and quality of artisan products produced locally besides demonstrating their own skills. Mr. Unus Molla conducted a session on attitude, awareness, approach, Newton's Third law, analysis vs criticism, documentation, planning, expression, vs impression & impact. He also shared some management thoughts, quotes, philosophy, strategies, etc. Mr. Purandar Sengupta,urged participating entrepreuners to believe in themselves, have faith in capabilities and the courage to carry out their passion. Mr. A K Hota assured to extend various assistance through Apex / Primary Handicrafts Co-operatives / NGOs for development of handicrafts industries in the region. Mr. Amitabha Ghosh elaborated about the activities of the DIC like implementation of various schemes and programmes for employment generation and extend welfare schemes; opportunity guidance to entrepreneurs; compilation of information about local sources of raw materials and their availability; assessment of availability of infrastructure facilities like quality testing, research and development, transport, prototype development, warehouse, etc.
9 Seminar on Importance of Packaging & Bar Coding in Exports of Handicrafts 23rd June, 2014; Moradabad EPCH conducted a Seminar on Importance of Packaging & Bar Coding in Exports of Handicrafts in association with Export Promotion Bureau, UP, on 23rd June, 2014 at EPCH Moradabad office. This was attended by a large number of exporters who benefited from detailed information on the topic. Some reputed and renowned experts related to the field were invited to interact as well as disseminate information on the subject. The seminar s objective was to provide support and market linkages to handmade products in Moradabad, which are crucial to livelihood of many crafts persons in far-flung areas. This linkage is crucial from the standpoint of contribution in improving handicrafts based livelihood, and promoting social entrepreneurship. Mr L M Gupta, Director, Package Design Research & Test Lab. from Moradabad, made a presentation on Importance of Packaging and informed participants about different aspects of packaging such as safety of products, cost consideration, appeal of packaging and quality parameters of corrugated board / boxes. He also informed about the various tests for boxes like bursting strength, edge crush test, flat crush test, bending stiffness, cobb test, moisture content, thickness, flute height, puncture resistance, GSM (Finding), compression test and vibration cum drop test. Mr. Gopal Valecha, Vice President, M/s Bar Code India Ltd. elaborated on Importance of Barcoding in Handicrafts Sector. This was followed by dissemination of information on items/products that can be captured automatically using technologies like: Barcode, RFID, etc. He further explained about aspects of bar coding like, automates data capture at great speeds and with 100% accuracy; eliminates need for manual data entry which is errorprone; provides unambiguous identification of products, consignments, entities, etc.; enables lower cost through increased productivity; and savings in costs.
