1 Student and Early Career Development (SECD) Sector Leadership Biographies SECTOR COUNCIL Senior Vice-President Paul Stevenson, Vice President of McCormick Stevenson Corporation in Clearwater, Florida has over 25 years of experience in design engineering, primarily in the Defense and Aerospace marketplaces. Starting out as a draftsman in the early 80 s, Paul worked his way through college and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of South Florida in He became a principle of McCormick Stevenson in 2003 and has helped grow the company to over $1.2M in sales for four consecutive years. Paul is active in professional societies such as ASME, PDMA and PMI, both locally and nationally. He formerly served on the Exam Review Committee for ASME s Engineering Management Certification program and supports his local section of ASME, the Florida West Coast section, as Student Liaison to the University of South Florida Student Chapter. He also supports engineering education through his leadership of the Corporate Ambassador program at the USF College of Engineering.

2 Members at Large David E. Lee, Ph.D., is the principal investigator for Full Spectrum Power for Optical/Thermal Exergy (FSPOT-X) and manager for the Integrated Concept Development Facility at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) in Redondo Beach. He is area lead for both thermal power systems and tether technologies within NGAS s Research and Technology. Additionally, as a Project Manufacturing Engineer, he supervised the production of spacecraft structural components and the assembly of multiple space structures. He served on multiple Six Sigma and other inter-, cross-division and cross-sector project teams. As an educator, Dr. Lee is currently the lead instructor for the Spacecraft Systems Design and Analysis as well as the Space Mission Systems Engineering courses offered through UCLA Extension s Astronautical Engineering Certificate Program. Dr. Lee served as General Conferences Co-Chair for the 2005 ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences/Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (2005 IDETC/CIE) in Long Beach, California. He is a Past Chair of the ASME Computers and Information in Engineering Division and has served as Conference Chair and Technical Program Chair of the ASME Computers and Information in Engineering Conferences. Dr. Lee completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering through the Integrated Manufacturing Engineering Program for Advanced Transportation Systems at UCLA in He received his B.A. in Mathematics in 1985 and M.S. in Manufacturing Engineering in 1990 both from UCLA. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a member of the ACM, AIAA, IEEE, and INCOSE. Eduardo J. Barrientos, Ph.D., is currently a Senior Technology System Engineer in General Motors Powertrain Europe. Eduardo holds a B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar of Venezuela and M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and University of Michigan respectively. Eduardo has previously worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Automotive, Combustion Engine and Railway Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, and as a visiting scientist at the Research and Innovation Center of Ford Motor Company. His research experiences include internal combustion engines, alternative fuels, fuel formulation, advance combustion, hybrid vehicles technology, diesel after-treatment systems and emissions characterization. Eduardo is an active volunteer with the Society, currently serving as member of the Student and Early Career Development Council, the McDonald Mentoring Award Committee, and the Energy Conversion and Storage Segment. He had previously held a number of ASME positions including vice president of the Affinity Communities Operating Board, member of the Knowledge and Communities Board, the Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Committee, member and founder of the International Outreach Group, and chair of the Universidad Simon Bolivar Student Section. He is the recipient of the ASME Charles T. Main Student Section Leadership Award, the Old Guard Early Career Award and the 2015 New Faces of Engineering honor.

3 Judith Ann Bamberger, Ph.D., is a Senior Research Engineer in Experimental Fluid Mechanics at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Her research focuses on characterizing slurry mixing of large-scale oscillating jets and pulse-jets for mobilizing and mixing slurries. Dr. Bamberger s engineering contributions focus on scaled experiments characterizing unsteady mixing of Newtonian and non- Newtonian slurries applied to mobilization and mixing during remediation of nuclear waste stored in underground tanks. She has developed and applied insitu real-time instrumentation to characterize physical and rheological properties of particulate-laden fluids and multi-phase suspensions in vessels and pipelines and fluids-based technologies for remediating waste tanks. She received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and a B.S. in Chemistry and Physics from Dickinson College. Her prior leadership roles in ASME include chair of the Air Pollution Control Division (now the Environmental Control Division), Pacific Northwest District D Leader, and Fluids Engineering Division Committee Chair. She received the ASME Dedicated Service Award and the US Department of Energy Honor Award. She has been elected fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Nominating Committee Reps Voting Eduardo J. Barrientos, Ph.D. (Bio above) Mandy L. Cowgill, M.S., is a Biomedical Engineer at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), Department of Aeromedical Research, Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB), OH. Her current position is providing biomedical engineering support to the Human Performance Team. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton in 2004 and 2006, respectively. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at Wright State University. Her previous research includes working as a cooperative education student and graduate student in the Metals Branch of the Structural Materials Division of the Materials Directorate at WPAFB and cadaveric orthopedic research with the upper extremity Orthopedic Department at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. Her current graduate research involves biomechanics. She joined the Department of Aeromedical Research in September She has been involved in ASME since she became a student member in 2001.

4 Alternate Aaron Ryan, is a Senior Engineer Technical Leader at Pella Corporation in their Advanced Product Technology and focuses on glass and insulating glass technologies. He worked in process and product design prior to his current research and development role. Aaron earned his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from North Dakota State University. Active in ASME throughout college, he was also active nationally on the Student Sections Committee, Committee on Early Career Development, Center for Career and Professional Development, and K&C Programs and Activities Board. Aaron is the recipient of the ASME Charles T Main Student Sections Award Sliver and the Old Guard Early Career Award. Outside of ASME, he participates in technical organizations ASTM, IGMA, and IGCC. In his free time, Aaron volunteers as a Paramedic and recently finished serving 10 years at his local ambulance service. Johnny Murrell Student Programming Committee, Chair Najib Metni, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor and currently the Chairperson of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Notre Dame University-Louaize in Lebanon. He received his Bachelor of Engineering from the American University of Beirut in While conducting his Ph.D. thesis in Universite de Nice Sophia- Antipolis, he was a research team leader in Laboratoire Centrale des Ponts et Chausses, Paris for the Mobile Instrumentation Platform (PMI), a flying robot for defects and cracks' inspection in large bridges. He spent 8 months as a visiting scholar in the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, USA, where he developed an overview on Wireless Sensor Networks and their applications in the field of active control. Najib Metni is the author of many journal and conference publications. His research interests are in automation, mechatronics, non-linear control theory, sensor fusion, visual servoing, robotics and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Active member of ASME since 2008 he was formerly the chair of the Student Section Enterprise Committee. He is currently chairing the Student Programming Committee since ECE Programming Committee, Chair Anita Rebarchak, Pratt & Whitney, Military Engines Test Engineer.

5 Staff Partners Tatyana Polyak Cheryl Hasan, Manager, Early Career Development, Cheryl works with the ASME ECE Programming Committee. She has over 25 years of management experience and has been with ASME for almost 15 years working on early career development and ASME membership initiatives. In her current role, she is responsible for the ME Today newsletter, Web-Content Development for early career engineers, and Event Planning and Management for the ASME FutureME Mini-Talk Series. In addition to program/event management she manages a couple of social media platforms; ASME FutureME YouTube Channel and the ASME FutureME Twitter. Cheryl has been very successful in collaborating with ASME volunteer leaders and committee members to initiate new programs and concepts, and extremely involved in working with external vendors/freelancers mastering the post-production and editorial process to develop new content. Her background consist of a number of skills and experiences. She s organized, detail-oriented, and a quick study; always looking for new ways to help and engage early career engineers in their careers. Prior to joining ASME, she lived in Columbus, Ohio where she worked for The Kroger Company for 10.5 years in various management positions; store management; warehouse logistics; and leading advertising efforts for store remodels/grand openings in the Columbus Market (at that time, included over a 100 stores). She also worked with different non-profit and community organizations to support important community initiatives that The Kroger Company served.
