3 Agenda Item # 3.1 Athabasca Recreation Board Meeting Athabasca County Office Wednesday, April 25, :00 p.m. PRESENT: Fred Kuzyk, Chair, Iola Bartja, Mike Demko, Paul Ponich, Brenda Krawec, Lisa Stocking, Juanita Marois, Christi Bilsky, and County Manager Gary Buchanan. ABSENT: 1.0 CALL TO ORDER Chair Kuzyk called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. 2.0 APPROVAL OF AGENDA REC Moved by Paul Ponich that the Agenda be approved with the following addition: 4.2 Leadership Assistance Grant. CARRIED. 3.0 APPROVAL OF MINUTES REC Moved by Mike Demko that the Minutes of the March 21, 2012 regular meeting be approved as presented. CARRIED. 4.0 BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES Draft Business Plan The Board reviewed the first draft of the business plan. Members will take the plan on the 2012 tour and update the plan following the tour. 4.2 Leadership Assistance Grant 5.0 DIRECTORS REPORT Secretary Buchanan reported that he had been contacted by Lorna Kravontka regarding the decision to decline their application for a Leadership Assistance grant. REC Moved by Mike Demko that the Manager s Report is accepted as information. CARRIED. 6.0 NEW BUSINESS 6.1 Annual Tour Date The Board reviewed dates for the spring tour of recreation facilities. REC Moved by Lisa Stocking that the recreation tours be on May 7 and May 9, CARRIED Energize Workshop The Board discussed attendance at the 2012 Energize Workshop, October 18-20, in Jasper. REC Moved by Iola Bartja that two Board members be sent to the 2012 Energize Workshop. CARRIED. 6.3 Advertisements Secretary Buchanan reported that advertisements for the May long weekend will be advertised in the local papers and through the County s electronic media. 6.4 Policy 7630 The Board reviewed the proposed changes to Policy 7630 County Campgrounds Booking Policy. REC Moved by Brenda Krawec that changes to Policy 7630 County Campgrounds Booking Policy be accepted and the amended Policy be forwarded to Council for approval. CARRIED. 5 Agenda Item # 3.1 Athabasca Recreation Board Meeting Athabasca County Office Wednesday, April 25, :00 p.m. 6.4 Policy 7635 The Board reviewed the proposed changes to Policy 7635 County Campgrounds Suspension Guidelines, REC Moved by Paul Ponich that Policy 7635 County Campground Suspension Guidelines be accepted and the Policy be forwarded to Council for approval. CARRIED. 6.5 Volunteer Appreciation Event Members discussed the results of the Volunteer Appreciation Event. It was agreed to hold another event in 2013 and perhaps relocated it to one of the community halls. Members expressed thanks to Jodie Pruden and Nicole McDonald for their assistance in organizing the Event. 6.6 Youth Assistance Grants The Board reviewed the application of the Edwin Parr Drama Club for assistance under the Youth Assistance Grant to attend the Provincial Festival of Plays. REC Moved by Christi Bilski that the application of the Edwin Parr Drama Club for assistance under the Youth Assistance Grant to attend the Provincial Festival of Plays is approved in the amount of $ CARRIED. The Board reviewed the application of the Maya MacIsaac-Jones for assistance under the Youth Assistance Grant to attend the National Cross Country Ski Championships. REC Moved by Christi Bilsky that the application of the Maya MacIsaac- Jones for assistance under the Youth Assistance Grant to attend the National Cross Country Ski Championships in the amount of $ CARRIED. The Board reviewed the application of the Michael MacIsaac-Jones for assistance under the Youth Assistance Grant to attend the National Cross Country Ski Championships. Subjects discussed were: o Repair of boat docks o Improvements to Buck Lake Narrows New fire pits and picnic tables o The stripping of Charron Lake o Baptiste Lake Replacement of cook shed roof Possible change of camping area over to Day Use Area o Suggestion of Island Lake being marketed as a group site o Enlarging Long lake and Ghost Lake to accommodate more campsites o Takeover of Riverside Park o Construction of a change room for the swimming area at Forfar Recreation Park Seasonal Day passes are being advertised and actively promoted Improvements have been made to the Forfar Cabin and all camping sites. o New roof over customer receiving area, skirting, post replacement, material has been added to sites for leveling and gravel has been ordered to repair the bad holes in our road network Report from April 25 to May 11 Page 10 of 156
