28 YEAR IN REVIEW Distinguished Club Officers! Congratulations! Senator Paul Tsongas (D-MA) was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 1992 presidential election. Ray Mitchell recalls The Senator was in Indianapolis for other engagements in support of raising public awareness of challenges facing the nation. He had an opening on his schedule that allowed him to speak to our club. We did the usual - some socializing, the opening prayer and then we sang a verse of America. After the senator was introduced he preceded his greeting with, You know over the years I have spoken to hundreds of Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis clubs, and I must tell you that was the worst singing I have ever heard at a meeting. or words to that effect. While it was probably true, he said it with tongue-in-cheek and needless to say, he was one of the most popular speakers we ever had. 10/5/
