Huerta Civil Rights Activist For over 60 years, Dolores Huerta has been at the forefront of every major battle for social and economic justice, and civil and human rights. She is the most respected woman of our time and "one of the most defiant feminists of the 20th century." Domenika Lynch President and CEO CHCI Domenika Lynch is the President and CEO of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Inc. (CHCI), Previously, she served as the Executive Director of the Latino Alumni Association (LAA) at the University of Southern California. Hon. Susana Mendoza Comptroller State of Illinois Susana Mendoza has dedicated the last 18 years to public service. In 2016, she became the first Hispanic Democrat to win a statewide office in Illinois. In 2011, she also made history by becoming the first woman ever elected to serve as Chicago's City Clerk. 03
2 GUEST SPEAKERS Hon. Iris Y. Martinez Senator, 20th District Illinois State Senate Hon. Iris Y. Martinez was the first Hispanic woman elected to the State Senate in Illinois. She is currently the Majority Caucus Whip and previously served as Assistant Majority Leader from Hon. Anna M. Valencia City Clerk of Chicago Hon. Anna Valencia oversees one of the largest governmental offices in Chicago, which serves 1.2 million people and generates more than $130 million annually. She made it a priority to find innovative ways to bring services directly to residents. Denice Frohman Poet, Writer, Educator Denice Frohman is an awardwinning poet, writer, speaker, performer, and educator. Her multicultural upbringing inspires her to explore the intersections of race/ethnicity, gender, and sexuality. Cindy Nava Executive Director Learning Alliance New Mexico Cindy Nava was the first Dreamer to intern for the DNC. Prior to her role as Executive Director, she served as a House Majority Education Analyst for the New Mexico House of Representatives. 04
3 HONOREES Sylvia Mendez Civil Rights Activist Sylvia Mendez and her family played an instrumental role in the Mendez v. Westminster case. The landmark case desegregated schools in California and set a precedent for Brown v. Board of Education. She will receive the National Hispanic Hero Award. Hon. Polly Baca Political Pioneer Hon. Polly Baca was the first Latina to serve in the Colorado House of Representatives and in the State Senate. She will receive the Dr. Henry L. (Hank) Lacayo Lifetime Achievement Award. Hon. Crisanta Duran Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives State Representative, House District 5 Hon. Cristina Duran has served four terms in the Colorado House of Representatives, including one as Majority Leader and one as Speaker of the House She will receive the William C. Velasquez Trailblazer Award. José Calderón President, Hispanic Federation José Calderón is a New Yorkbased advocate for Hispanic grassroots organizations and pro- Latino legislation. He will receive the César Chávez Community Service Award. 05

Raja Krishnamoorthi Congressman, 8th District (IL) U.S. House of Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi has dedicated his career to strengthening Illinois' middle class. He also cofounded InSPIRE, a non-profit that provides inner-city students and veterans with training in solar technology. Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. President & CEO USHLI Dr. Andrade is one of only four Latinos in history to be honored by the governments of both Mexico and the United States. With five earned degrees, he is the most educated leader of a national organization. JoAnn Chávez VP, Legal & Chief Tax Officer DTE Energy JoAnn Chávez oversees DTE Energy's commercial, securities, corporate finance and governance, and non-utility legal practice groups. Previously, she served as an international tax partner for KPMG LLP. Hon. Jesús G.
