4 The economic and commercial cooperation between India and UAE has been the cornerstone of the strong bilateral relationship. Trade and economic engagement between the countries now valued at US$ 60 Billion, reflects the evolution of the strategic partnership. Being among the top trading partners for each other, ties are being further strengthened through diversifying non-oil trade. With historic visits by the Indian Prime Minister, Hon. Shri.Narendra Modi, followed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, relations are poised to scale new heights. The nations have reaffirmed their resolve to substantially increase trade by 60 per cent over the next five years. Various tariff and non-tariff barriers are being removed, to enhance the trade of commodities and expand the access of goods and services in both markets. Inaugurated in 2015 by India s Finance Minister, Hon. Shri Arun Jaitley, UAE India Economic Forum (UIEF) is a definitive platform to discuss and evaluate trade, bi-lateral relations, and investment opportunities between the two strong economies. The 2nd edition of UIEF follows on the success to bring senior ministry and government officials, heads of Investment, top banks and financial institutions; chief executives of top companies and family owned businesses under one platform. The forum addresses the policy framework and guidelines required to attract investors, sovereign wealth funds, large corporates and industries, focusing on critical sectors like infrastructure, tourism, renewable energy and banking. 5 UAE - INDIA RELATIONS HAVE STRENGTHENED IN THE PAST 18 MONTHS August 2015: Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi visits UAE, first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 34 years. September 2015: HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, UAE visited India for a two-day visit. He led a delegation consisting of senior officials and captains of the industry for the India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting on Technical and Economic Cooperation.

7 HOW THE VISITS AND FORUMS HELPED? UAE pledged to invest USD 75 Billion in India through a joint statement UAE promised to back India s bid for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council Both nations have agreed to boost trade by 60% over the next 5 years. ADNOC agrees to store crude oil in India s maiden strategic storage, and give two-third of the oil to it for free. Seven agreements signed during HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan s visit to India across cyber security, infrastructure investment, renewable energy and currency swap arrangements.

8 2015 EDITION RECAP India s Minister of Finance, Hon. Shri Arun Jaitley inaugurated the forum. His opening address highlighted the structural changes brought about by the Indian government on the back of country s consistent drive for growth, credibility of India s decision-making processes, greater stability, quick approvals, and a positive shift towards ease of doing business in India. This was followed by an address by Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Alshehhi, Under-Secretary at the UAE Ministry of Economy who talked about the very special bond of friendship and partnership that UAE and India share. Welcoming the improvement in legislation and laws in India to promote business, he cited many success stories of UAE investment in India. Other prominent speakers included President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), CEO and Director General of Fujairah Free Zone Authority, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), CEO and MD of NMC Group and UAE Exchange, Managing Director of EMKE LuLu Group. Six panel discussions covering key sectors had eminent domain experts, captains of the industry and ministry officials. A unique panel format ensured that technical issues were discussed and focused along with strategic and sectoral discussions. Each panel comprised of ministry official or consultant who elaborated on the policy changes that offer new opportunities for businesses. Two States (Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir) highlighted the specific investment opportunities they offer. Senior ministers from the governments presented their cases. UIEF attracted industry leaders, ministry officials and world media who came to gain insights and network. As many as 312 delegates attended the inaugural forum, making it a sold out event.

16 OUR PARTNERS Strategic Partner UAE International Investors Council In light of the global developments and the UAE s strategic plans, and in line with the State s policy to promote economic diversification, a group of UAE international investors proposed the establish-ment of a council bringing them together and coordinating action amongst them. Once established, members of such Council would have the opportunity to support investment decision-making as well as economic and political decision-makers at both economic and political levels in the country; by providing them with clear indicators and parameters of the ongoing developments in all areas of UAE investments worldwide. During the second half of September 2009, a meeting was chaired by the then Ministry of Foreign Trade with a group of UAE companies with distinct investment presence abroad in various sectors such as: telecommunications, real estate development, energy and tourism. The meeting also includ ed representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Economy where the companies declared their desire and willingness for the idea offering support to the proposed council. As well, all attendees expressed their desire that UAE Cabinet provides the moral support to the Council represent ed in approving the establishment.
