This certification was awarded to ADCED in recognition of its quality management, strong staff performance, direct communication with stakeholders, and of its highly organizational skills in terms of adding value and thorough framework that complements with the strategic plans and development projects of the Government of Abu Dhabi. ADCED has received the certification after the completion of the assessment procedure, which included a 3 day visit to the Council s offices by a team of experienced international assessors who met with employees and studied the management practices adopted by ADCED in order to identify areas of strength and those in need of improvement in a very transparent manner.
2 Corporate film highlights ADCED s achievements and initiatives ADCED employees celebrate UAE s 41 National Day ADCED employees celebrated the 41st anniversary of UAE s National Day in a special festivity that was organized by the Corporate Affairs Division team. The festivity consisted of a variety of activities that shed light on the heritage, culture and history of the Emirati nation. The activities, which took place at a traditional tent installed at ADCED s head office, consisted of poetry and traditional game contests such as Tally making and Kairam table game. It also consisted of activities dedicated to children such as coloring and henna drawing. The festivity was not limited to these activities, but it also showcased Arabian hospitality by serving breakfast and lunch meals inspired by the popular Emirati cuisine such as dumplings and harees. In order to present a realistic image to the public about ADCED and the nature of work across all departments in a transparent and professional manner, the Council worked closely with Goldmine Film Production to produce its first corporate film. ADCED employees collaborated in the preparation of this film by drafting scripts and acting in various scenes that reflect the day-to-day work and continuous cooperation between the executive directors and employees of all departments. The film also sheds some light on the Council s modern facilities, which were designed at the aim to create an ideal working environment for its employees. The production is expected to be completed soon and the film will be uploaded on the Council s official website by early 2013.

Participants also developed a set of solutions to deal with these issues.
4 Fourth phase of Akoun initiative to be launched soon The ADCED committee that oversees work on Akoun initiative has set a comprehensive plan to launch the fourth phase soon. The initiative which was launched in 2009 aims to infuse an entrepreneurial mindset among the youth of Abu Dhabi, and to inspire and empower them to enter the private sector by setting up their own small or medium businesses. The Committee has addressed universities and colleges across the seven emirates, in a step that aims to reach out to a wider number of students. The previous campaigns have successfully targeted students from universities and colleges that are based in Abu Dhabi. ADCED will launch the fourth phase of Akoun initiative at the beginning of Workshops will be organized at various universities and colleges across the country, and students will be invited to enter the Best Business Idea competition. A number of Emirati entrepreneurs will meet students and share their success stories with them. DR. Dirham Champions Financial Literacy in the Capital On Tuesday, 13 November 2012, ADCED launched the Dirhami initiative s first public exhibition stand at Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi. The stand which was designed as an interactive maze challenged visitors with a number of questions on managing finances, personally and professionally. Based on a visitor s answers the maze would lead him/her either to riches and prosperity or to bust and jail. The exhibition, which lasted for 10 days, gave visitors the opportunity to engage with Dirhami s character, Dr. Dirham, which was designed to champion financial literacy and reach out to the local population in Abu Dhabi. Visitors also signed their pledges to showcase their commitment towards consuming wisely and saving.
5 Study: Tourism Sector: Enabling the private sector role in attracting tourists to Abu Dhabi Following the adoption of the study on How to Kick off Abu Dhabi s Economy by the Executive Committee of The Executive Council of Abu Dhabi, preparations were made by ADCED for an action plan to implement the project. Based on the Executive Committee request, ADCED held a series of workshops and business meetings with key players and stakeholders in the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi. The study aims to provide a list of key solutions to develop the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi, which is part of the stimulus plan to kick off Abu Dhabi s Economy in cooperation with the entities concerned. ADCED focused on the following five key sub-segments of the tourism sectors such as hotels & hotel apartments, shopping malls and centers, destination management companies, car rental companies, tourism destinations and operational organizers of the main events in the tourism sector. Study: The potential investment opportunities in the Arab Spring countries Recently, a number of Arab countries face the Arab Spring phenomenon, which resulted in political and security instability, as well as deterioration in its economy. While some countries are still in the midst of the political crisis associated with this phenomenon, some countries have managed to achieve political and security stability in erratic levels, followed by intensive efforts to stimulate the economic performance, which translates to possible investment opportunities for other countries. Consequently, some countries have initiated their search for new investment opportunities in the Arab Spring countries in order to engage their private sector in the reconstruction process of the Arab Spring countries and enhance economic growth. This study aims to assess the current situation in the Arab Spring countries in order to identify current and future investment opportunities in it. The study also provides a snapshot of several countries plans and aspirations to exploit the business opportunities in the Arab Spring countries, and presents the size of foreign direct investment in the Arab Spring countries during ( ). The study concludes with a list of policy recommendations on how to support the private sector of Abu Dhabi to actively engage in the reconstruction of the Arab Spring countries and benefit from the potential investment opportunities.
