4 Armen V. Papazian Founding Chairman and CEO Armen V. Papazian is a world known financial economist, innovator, consultant and speaker. Regularly invited to speak by private corporations, banks, governments and universities. He offers unique insights and delivers penetrating perspectives on current affairs, monetary economics, and Islamic finance. He has made innovative proposals in relation to the global sovereign debt crisis and the structural and systemic solutions required. He has designed and conceptualized a new instrument called Public Capitalization Note, which transforms money creation methodology to date. He is also the person to propose a new concept for financial valuation called Space Value of Money. He has published numerous articles and papers in a variety of outlets, and is a regular media commentator on regional and global developments. Most recently, he has a short piece in The Banker (FT), the Bracken Column. As a former Head of Islamic Finance at UBS, Dr. Papazian led the Islamicoperationsofthebankglobally, serving wealth management, asset management and the investment bank. As a former Senior Vice President managing Innovation and Development at the Dubai International Financial Exchange (Nasdaq Dubai), Dr. Papazian has led the launch of the Middle East's first Conventional and Islamic Structured Products platform with Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, and Merrill Lynch (DIFX Trax). He has also led the creation of the region's first tradable bond and Sukuk indices with HSBC. He has led the setting up of the company law compliance infrastructure leading to the first UAE company IPO on DIFX. He has also led the first fungible dual listing with a US exchange in the region. Until recently, Armen held the honorary position of Fellow at the Cambridge University Judge Business School, UK. He earned his PhD in Financial Economics from, King s College, University of Cambridge, UK. His first academic paper was shortlisted as a finalist in the global competition in clinical papers in finance organized by the Journal of Financial Economics, the European Centre for Corporate Governance and the Swedish Centre of Policy Studies. He was as a result invited to presentthepaperinstockholmand attend the Nobel prize Ceremony. As a PhD student still in Cambridge, Armenledauniquemultidisciplinary workshop for Tibetan professionals in Dharamsala, India, at theinstituteofbuddhistdialectics,wherehe also had the opportunity to meet with HH the 14 th Dalai Lama.
