THE COLLABORATION A collaboration is when two ideas meet, dissimilar yet similar; a beautiful merger of varied 9lavours giving an experience far beyond the regular.

2 THE COLLABORATION A collaboration is when two ideas meet, dissimilar yet similar; a beautiful merger of varied 9lavours giving an experience far beyond the regular. FlamencoKathaa is a blend of two disciplines in their pure and collaborative form. With foot tapping at the crux of both styles, Flamenco & Kathak seamlessly overlap creating rhythmic patterns & nuances unique and new to the two dance forms.

3 WHY FLAMENCO & KATHAK? The roots of Flamenco can be traced back to the gypsy traditions in Rajasthan. Gypsys travelled from Rajasthan (India) to as far as Romania, Hungary, Egypt and then took permanent abode in Spain thereby creating the legacy of the Spanish Flamenco. One of the three gharanas of Kathak hails from Jaipur, thus connecting the two forms with several similarities. The audience experiences an intricate weave of traditional Kathak repertoire & authentic Flamenco compositions.

4 SYNOPSIS When the purity and essence of two cultures come together in unison, the energy is just enthralling. The Flamenco shoes and the Kathak ghungroos come alive, sometimes speak, sometimes argue, giving a collective rhythmic experience that leaves a sparkle in the eyes of the viewers. The artists converse with captivating jugalbandis (trade off) between the Cajon ( Spanish Percussive instrument ) and Tabla. The Violin adds the element of melodies, both Indian classical and Spanish and is seen blending in with the Flamenco Guitar. After exploring body gestures and movements of the feet surprisingly common to both styles, the two dance forms cease to be different, they shake hands to become one!

They both are passionately driven by their own styles of dance and equally fascinated by each others dance forms.

5 THE ARTISTS. THEIR STORY FlamencoKathaa, a one of a kind collaboration from India has its own story to tell. The concept is marked by Kathak exponent Aditi Bhagwat & Flamenco Artist Kunal Om s own artistic journeys. They both are passionately driven by their own styles of dance and equally fascinated by each others dance forms. Both have always believed in evolving as artists by expanding the horizons of their art. By staying true to their culturally deep rooted dance forms, both Kunal & Aditi cross borders to meet common grounds. What transpires from this dialogue between the two is a plethora of emotions that connects the hearts of viewers with them. The creation continues to evolve with every performance nurturing the seeds of their creative ideas.

Its roots tracing back to Rajasthan, the Spanish Flamenco and the Rajasthani Folk culture (Kalbeliya) melt into one another, creating experience s unseen and unheard of. Its incredible how the sentiment behind the musical and dance renditions overlap making sounds and moves speci9ic to, but not limited to each art form. While these commonalities point to some very strong historical and cultural links, this Caravan of Cultures focuses on the distinct heritage, ethos and aesthetics of each form.
