1 News from Fiddler s Dream coffeehouse and acoustic music showcase July and august 2007 the wise family band in concert - Saturday, July 7 Respected contemporary folk musicians Scott and Louisa Wise and their three daughters Ruth (17), Lucy (16) and Rowena (13) make up this heartwarming family band. The girls all sing and play a swag of instruments between them - fiddles, ukulele, bass, harmonica and various percussion instruments. Scott and Louisa add voices, guitars, fiddle, mandolin and song and tune writing skills. All of the stringed instruments played in the band were made by Scott, a busy and respected professional luthier in Australia who has pioneered the use of Western Australian hardwoods in lutherie. The band s wide repertoire includes fiddle tunes from Australian, Irish, Scottish, Scandinavian, Basque, French Canadian, Cajun and other regional US and world traditions, and original tunes contributed by everyone in the band. The family s solid 5-part harmony singing always elicits a great response! The band performs Blues (their domestic blues songs always delight an audience), pre-blues African-American folk songs, Scottish and Appalachian traditional songs, works of contemporary songwriters and original songs reflecting their region of Australia. The family comes from Margaret River in Western Australia s deep South West, where the forest and ocean make a great atmosphere for music and instrument-making. The music starts at 8pm. Admission is $8. Summertime with the suono Violin & Cello duo - Tuesday, july 3 at 7pm A special 'Summertime' concert with Michael G. Ronstadt and Janet Marquardt as the Suono Violin/Cello Duo, presenting 'An Invigorating Fusion of Folk and Classical Music. Hear the roots of the classical genre through Johann Sebastian Bach s ingenuity and the sweet, singing melodies of Luigi Boccherini. Follow the Suono Duo into the 20th century with Zoltán Kodaly, which is overflowing with Eastern European folk melodies. And top off the night singing along with Summertime, written by Gershwin as a fusion of classical and jazz! Cool off and celebrate your musical independence! Admission is $5. Nancy Freeman CD Release concert~ Sunday, July 8 ~ 2pm The long-awaited release of Nancy's epic fantasy Western folk opera, "Stardust County"! Join Nancy and many of the members of the talented international cast, which includes locals Tom Tuerff and Lon Austin, for a concert and celebration. Grada in concert ~ Sunday, August 26 ~ 7 PM This high energy, talented quintet brilliantly balances original, contemporary and traditional elements to create a sound that is at once accessible and refreshingly distinct. The band came together five years ago, producing their own mix of music encompassing Irish, Breton, Eastern European, and other diverse styles; Gráda has been cited as one of the forerunners of contemporary traditional music. Their flutist, Alan Doherty, was a featured soloist on the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. They have toured extensively across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, UK, Italy, Ireland and more. Admission tonight is $15 advance sale, $20 at the door. Tickets will be available at Fiddler s Dream during regular business hours, or you may call for other options. Saturday, July 14: Ed Chiurco - acoustic singer and songwriter newly arrived in Tucson. Denise Lane and maybe a Spurloafer - coming from Tucson with a touch of Americana originals. Julian Ruck - acoustic indie rock with influences from Ani DeFranco, Ben Harper, and Dave Matthews. Friday, July 20: Scott Walter entertains with originals and covers on guitar. Roger That - five piece on guitar, bass and piano, influences are The Who, Jimmy Eats World and The Goo Goo Dolls. Rocky Road - power trio with Peter, Paul and Mary and other covers from your past and present. Saturday, July 21: Lindsay Owen composes beautiful songs about the desert and more. DeMarco from Flagstaff with guitar, fiddle, piano and harmonica; folk, roots and blues... ryan g - his music will remind you of John Mayer love songs, with a twist. Friday, July 27: Nathan Temby - Piano-based singer-songwriter with deep lyrics and a folk-rock sound. Chon Travis on guitar doing originals and more. The Servants (awaiting confirmation). Saturday, July 28: Patricia Silverberg, folk/rock, with an energetic and diverse style: one minute she may be finger picking a heartfelt love song and the next fiercely strumming a song against oppression. Tommy Tharp on autoharp, gospel and bluegrass with a country twist. Duozona is Theresa and Chuck Hulihan, guitar and flute duo, mixing classical with a gypsy jazz swing feel; A vibrant and gifted pair that presents a rich and colorful palette of musical styles from all over the world. Paisley Yanklovich - original gospel music with a rock and pop feel, Christian artist. Saturday, August 4: Elijah Bossenbroek with original modern classical piano compositions. Tim Thomas You are invited to sing along and celebrate the history and the meaning of this man s life and legacy. Rich Bailey and Rebecca Strange with Irish music and more (awaiting confirmation). Friday, August 10: Brian Benham believes one person can make a difference and his music will convince you he is right... Derrick Mendonca - acoustic guitar originals and covers, ask him about his little one! Skyler Stonestreet ~ influences such as Carole King, James Taylor, Rickie Lee Jones and many more, this young girl with an old soul found a knack for writing captivating and truthful music. Saturday, August 11: Two Set Night with Alex Radus - bringing an uncanny measure of refinement to the songwriting craft. His wit and wisdom come to light in lyrics that are poignant and sophisticated. Latebloom does Eurorock, underground, rootsie/folkie stripped down, with a touch of psychedelia. Admission is $8.
