We thank you for choosing a Hoyt/Easton product and want to assure you of our continuing interest in your shooting pleasure and satisfaction. This manual has been prepared to acquaint you with the operation and maintenance of your Gold Medalist T/D4,TMand to provide important safety information. When it comes to service, remember your Hoyt/Easton dealer is prepared to help you and is interested in your complete satisfaction. Should your Gold Medalist T/D4 require factory service, your Hoyt/Easton dealer will also assistyou. This manual should be considered a permanent part of this bow. It should stay with the bow when sold to provide the next owner with important operating and maintenance information. All information and specifications in this manual are based on the latest product information available at the time of printing. The right is reserved to make changes at any time without notice. THE GOLD MEDALIST T/D4 FEATURES In keeping with the Hoyt tradition of producing the World's Most Accurate Bow backed by Hoyt engineering expertise and innovativeness, comes the all new from limb to limb, Gold Medalist T/D4~MTruly. the most exciting F.ITA. bow ever produced. Its remarkable features include the following state of the art advancements. Exclusive limb mounting system provides precision alignment of limbs and handle. #Limb adjustment is an internal system with positive locking mechanism. J There is no need to remove stabilizers to adjust weight or tiller. #Limbsattach without a thumb screw using a special dove tail to prevent limb detachment should a bowstring break. #VERTA-TUNE is a new concept in bow tuning. The Gold Medalist has a vertically adjustable arrow rest system that has been proven to add a new dimension to tuning for greater accuracy EqUipped to receive a cushion plunger. Choice of two newly designed, slimmer grips provide for consistent hand placement and decreased lateral torque. Bow limbs are redesigned for greater speed and stability with substantially increased accuracy To cope with the added stress imposed by kevlar bowstrings and the new Easton aluminum carbon arrows, the Gold Medalist limbs are reinforced with phenolic overlays at such critical points as the bow nock and riser section. A new magnesium 25" handle of classic design and modern lines enhances the beauty of the new T/D4 ~M Higher performance limbs with reinforced fiber glass combined with laminated hardrock maple cores. Furnished with kevlar string. Holes tapped for bow sight and klicker. EqUipped with five stainless steel stabilizer bushings tapped 5/16"-24. 3 "Hoyt/~U5A ~ SPECIFICATIONS Available in AMO lengths of 64:' 66:' 68" or 70:' right or left hand. Choice of five metallic colors: gold, smoke, burgundy, navy blue and white. Available in weights 25 Ibs., to 50 Ibs. INSTALLING YOUR GOLD MEDALIST LIMBS Your Gold Medalist T/D4 has a new and improved limb mounting and limb weight adjusting system (patent pending). Internally, the butt end of each limb is engaged by a Channel that is adjustable fore and aft for weight control and limb balance. Also, a special limb guide bushing is slidably mounted in a dove tail 9r90ve that both aligns and captivates the limb from falling out should string breakage occur. A spring loaded detent button holds the limb in place while stringing, no thumb screw is needed. Install each limb in its respective socket, upper and lower. Carefully center the limb butt in the Channel and at the same time the Limb Guide Bushing is centered in the dove tailed groove and pushed home into the detent. FINE TUNING YOUR BOW The Gold Medalist T/D4 has excellent adjustability for fine tuning that is exclusive to the T/D4~MThe new Verta-Tune'M provides a new effective tuning dimension as does limb weight and tiller adjustment. These exclusives combined with the usual tuning procedure of nocking point, string height, and cushion plunger tension provide the ultimate accuracy attainable only in a Gold Medalist. Keep in mind that each of these tuning parameters are to some extent interrelated, the adjustment of one may affect the others. LIMB TILLER Contrary to popular opinion, limb tiller should not be considered an important factor in tuning recurve bows! Why? Because tiller is only a measure of static balance, the relationship of the limbs to the string of the braced bow. Within reasonable limits, variances in tiller has little bearing on dynamic balance, the truly important factor. A variance of ;:; inch reverse tiller (lower limb farthest from string) to Y2 inch normal tiller will show little effect on grouping accuracy. In some instances the nocking point may need to be relocated to accommodate the tiller change. Bear in mind that when the nocking point is located to prevent arrow porpoising true dynamic balance between the limbs has been achieved. As a practical matter, we suggest placing the tiller at Ya inch to % inch more on the upper limb (normal tiller) as measured perpendicular to the string at each end of the handle. The rationale for this is to make the lower limb stronger to offset the greater strain imposed on it and the subsequent tendancy for the lower limb to "let down" especially after a day of hard shooting in hot weather. Normally, in the course of shooting, particularly on a hot day, all bows will change tiller to a more or lessdegree whether limbs are adjustable or non-adjustable. Under some conditions some bows have even been known to reversetiller. With very few exceptions, bows that have changed tiller will return back to their normal tiller condition after resting in an unstrung condition for a short time of only a few hours. Therefore, on your adjustable tiller bow do not panic by making an adjustment as soon as the tiller

5 been found to be of considerable importance in establishing a more compatible relationship between the arrow rest and the pivot or pressure point of the bow grip. When that relationship is properly established, greater accuracy results. TUNING YOUR VERTA-TUNpM - To establish the most effective positioning of the arrow rest is a matter of experimenting with the vertical adjustment. Start with your rest in the middle of the adjustment, then locate it Va inch higher and then Va inch lower. Choose the position where your grouping is tightest. In the course of experimenting with varying arrow rest positions, up or down, the nocking point should be moved a comparable amount, up or down. Vertical tuning of the arrow rest is sensitive to four criterion: 1. The location and subsequent pressure point of the bow hand on the bow grip. 2. The characteristics of the effective release, whether straight back or up or down. 3. The interplay of dynamics between the upper and lower bow limbs. Consequently a change in the manner of gripping the bow, or in the release, or possibly a change in bow limbs may require a different height location of the arrow rest. 4. The type of arrow shaft usedaluminum, aluminum/carbon, ete. Once you are satisfied that you have determined the optimum height of your arrow rest, proceed as follows to lock your Verta- Tune securely in place. LOCKING YOUR VERTA-TUNE - A spanner wrench is provided for loosening or tightening the Verta-Tune During the experimental stage of seeking the best vertical position of your arrow rest, use only the locking nut and spanner wrench for locking the rest in position. Once the proper location has been determined, mark the location with a fine felt pen along the upper edge of the primary arrow plate. Then, remove the primary arrow plate, first removing the cushion plunger and then with the spanner wrench, remove the locking nut. With the primary arrow plate removed from the bow, peel the covering from the adhesive strips and replace the primary arrow plate at the marked position and press firmly in place. Replace the lock nut and tighten with spanner wrench. Replace the cushion plunger. The Verta-Tune is now double secured, eliminating any possibility of movement. Should the need arise to experiment further, proceed as before. The double stick tape can be reattached many times. WEIGHT ADJUSTMENT The Gold Medalist T/D4 is weight adjustable in a range of about 8%-10% up from the weight indicated on the limbs. For example: If the limbs are marked 40 pounds the bow is capable of adjustment to approximately 44 pounds at 28 inches of draw. As a fine tuning aid, changing bow weight to accommodate arrow spine is often desirable. Increasing weight for a stiff spine and decreasing it to accommodate a weak spine. Limb weight adjustment is accomplished by the use of the
6 special allen wrench provided, when the bow isbraced. The limb adjustment channel is factory adjusted to minimum weight. Should an increase in bow weight be desired, first unlock the hollow lock screws (one full turn counterclockwise) bearing against and locking the Channel Drive Screw (limb adjustment bolt) located face side of the handle at either end. Use the limited entry (dimpled end) of the wrench on the Lock Screw. With the opposite end of the wrench, insert through the Lock Screw and into the Channel Drive Screw. Turn the Channel Drive Screw clockwise the desired amount, reverse the wrench and firmly lock the hollow lock screw against the Channel Drive Screw. Turning the Channel Drive Screw clockwise on one limb will strengthen that limb and decrease the distance between the limb and the string. Turning the adjusting bolt counter-clockwise will produce opposite results. The strengthening of one limb relative to the other is called tillering. To adjust bow weight without affecting tiller, turn the bolt of each limb an equal amount. To adjust tiller without affecting bow weight, adjust each bolt an equal amount but in opposite directions. Should a substantial change be made in bow weight (2 Ibs. or more) turning the Channel Drive Screw equal amounts for both limbs will most likely show the tiller has not remained constant and a correction needs to be made. If a correction adjustment is made, always shoot several ends to verify the tiller desired. TILLER MEASUREMENT POINT / SERVING ~ STRING (BRACE) HEIGHT GRIP!
