The beginner bow hold should be used no more than 2 3 weeks before the introduction of the regular hold. 1. Fingering and reading E, F#, G 2. Demonstrate bow hold steps (see pg ) with the beginner bow hold (thumb below frog) 3. Practice bowing one string at a time 4. Play pg. 9 with the bow 5. Continue working on left handshape 6. 5 LISTENING 1. Brahms Symphony #1, Mvt Winter Concert TIME FRAME JANUARY FEBRUARY * Note to teacher: The ¼ notes require a fast bow speed, ½ notes require a slower speed and whole notes require the slowest speed. Mark the student s bow with a dot into three sections, (whiteout works nicely) lower, middle and upper. Mark a dot approx. 2 3 above the finger grip and 2 3 from the tip of the bow. Students should play from dot to dot using the whole middle section of the bow with each stroke when starting their bow experience 1. Continue demonstrating bowhold steps (see pg ) with the beginner bow hold (thumb below frog) 2. Practice bowing differentrhythms on shoulder for a straight bow 3. Continue to work on left hand 1. Practice finding bow levels and practice bow retakes 2. Continue to review the names of the open strings 3. Continue to work on the relationship between half notes/rests, quarter notes/rests, and eighth notes/rests 4. Read open G 5.
