3 Constructing the F# Major Scale In this lesson we are going to learn the notes of the F# Major scale, its key signature, how it looks on both the treble and the bass clefs, and its recommended fingerings on piano/ keyboard. To construct the notes of the F# major scale, we start at the base note (or tonic ) F#, and follow the major scale pattern. Whole Whole Half Whole Whole Whole Half A whole step up from F# is G#. A whole step up from G# is A#. A half step up from A# is B. A whole step up from B is C#. A whole step up from C# is D#. A whole step up from D# is E#. (Note that E# = F.) A half step up from E# is F#. Collectively, this gives us the notes of the F# Major scale. F# G# A# B C# D# E# F# As we can see, F# Major has 6 sharps, C#, D#, E#, F#, G#, and A#. 23 B Major, Grand Staff Finally, we are going to stack one staff on top of another, forming a Grand Staff. We are going to take the notes on a treble clef staff,... and combine them with the notes on the bass clef staff... The note middle C is exactly between them. By stacking them on top of each other we get the Grand Staff. The Grand Staff is generally used for keyboard/piano music. You will generally play the notes on the top staff with your right hand, and the notes on the bottom staff with your left, playing the notes on each staff simultaneously.
