1 SESSION I Instrument Level Instructor Description Mountain Dulcimer B Dave Haas You Can Do This! Learn how to hold, tune, strum, fret the dulcimer, read dulcimer tab, play backup chords, and participate in a jam session! DAD Mountain Dulcimer B/I Tull Glazener Introduction to Chords. Chords are one of the basic building blocks of music, and this class will explore how to form them, and how to use them on mountain dulcimer. Mountain Dulcimer B/I Susan Trump NEW Americana Music Songs of Stephen Foster, Appalachian Songs & Hymns. We ll learn songs from one of our most famous composers and those anonymous musicians who gave us the wonderful body of music we call American Music. DAD Mountain Dulcimer B/I Joe Collins Simple Hymns. We ll learn some great classics that should be a part of any hymn repertoire as well as unique arrangements for those classics. Others will be lesser known, old hymns. By week s end we ll work together to create a hymn arrangement with multiple parts. Mountain Dulcimer B/I-I Dana Gruber DAA & DAD Duets. Whether you are a DAA or DAD player (or wanna be) this class has something for everyone. We will combine the sounds of both tunings while playing some fun duets. Students will need to re-tune their melody string(s). Mountain Dulcimer B/I-I Stephen Seifert Fun Flatpicked Traditional fiddle Tunes. Flatpicking is playing the melodies across the three strings hitting one string at a time. Steve has developed a new and effective way to teach this technique. Rather than play fancy tunes, we ll make the easy stuff sound fancy with minimal effort. Mountain Dulcimer I Bing Futch Mississippi Delta Mountain Dulcimer Blues. Get the secret to playing authentic blues in this special, in-depth class. We ll start with song form and composition, chords and melody notes, on to classic blues tunes and performance skills. Mountain Dulcimer I Ken Bloom Music of Northumberland & the Borders. The North of England, the Border Country, has a unique musical tradition based on the fiddle and the small-pipes. This repertoire is especially adaptable to the dulcimer, but other instruments are welcome.

2 SESSION I Mountain Dulcimer I - I/A Aubrey Atwater Dulcimer Playing Styles. Take a dulcimer ride with Aubrey from 19th century Ritchie Family noter and drone traditions to the Howie Mitchell chord-melody style of the 60 s to contemporary dulcimer techniques today. Instruction will be approached from a number of angles: singing and playing chords, tunings, using the noter, strumming, fingerpicking and any other topics that may happen as a result of group chemistry. Jazz up nursery rhymes and Appalachian tunes and learn to play the strum that Joni Mitchell used in California, A Case of You and Carey, Get Out Your Cane. Use the dulcimer as a percussion instrument during these hours of fun and discovery. Mountain Dulcimer I/A Linda Brockinton Waltzes & Lullaby s from Around the World. Join Linda for a stress-free class of beautiful tunes where you will not only learn the tunes, but also smooth out your playing, and learn some tricks to make things easier. Add interest to your playing with a variety of chords..keeping your strings down stops choppy playing. (Plus countless other tips!) Mountain Dulcimer A Aaron O'Rourke Pyrotechnical Fingerpicking Extravaganza! Fingerpicking is often associated with slow, pretty waltzes and airs. However, there s a whole world of different techniques that can be applied to fingerstyle playing and make your fingerpicked arrangements take on new life. We ll break down some of those techniques in this class that explores the pyrotechnical side of fingerstyle playing. Baritone Dulcimer B/I & Up Janita Baker This workshop will focus on using the baritone as a solo, backup and ensemble instrument. We will look at playing in different keys through a variety of tunings and how to use reverse Ionian instead of a capo to play with standard dulcimers. No previous baritone experience necessary but you should be comfortable with strumming and fingerpicking techniques. Some material may be a repeat of previous years.

3 SESSION I Chromatic Dulcimer B/I & Up Erin Mae Intro to Chromatic. Learn to navigate your chromatic fretboard by learning scales, chords, note names, and fancy licks. Erin will teach you several songs to give you the tools you need to learn the music you love. Capo is required. Hammered Dulcimer B Mark Alan Wade Crawl, Walk, Run! Very Beginning Beginner! In this class we ll learn all the basic skills you will need, step by step. You may not be running by the end of the week, but you ll definitely know how to get there. This is a true beginner class and we will have fun learning how to navigate the instrument and the mechanics of playing it with good habits. When possible we ll use fun tunes to teach concepts so you will leave the week with a handful of tunes! Hammered Dulcimer B/I Matt Dickerson Tune Mapping. Navigating through a tune on the hammered dulcimer can be tricky with double hitting, crossing the bridge, hand separation and percussive techniques. Come discover how to map out tunes for easy execution and smoother playing. Hammered Dulcimer B/I DeeDee Tibbits Now What? We ll be adding ornaments, arpeggios, vamps, and drones to traditional tunes. Developing new favorite tunes will be our goal this week! Hammered Dulcimer I Karen Alley The Need For Speed! Lots of things, from hammer technique to knowing the notes, can keep you from playing quickly on the dulcimer. We ll break down these barriers one by one and work on tunes and exercises to help you accelerate! Hammered Dulcimer I Tina Bergmann Hand Separation & Creating Variations. We ll learn Goddesses, a medieval tune arranged to have a right hand ostinato while the left hand takes the lead, plus some exercises to strengthen your skills and familiarize you with the experience of moving your hands in opposite directions. Once we feel comfortable with the tune, we will discuss and practice a multitude of ways to create variations that can easily be taken to other tunes. Hammered Dulcimer I/A Steve Eulberg Playing Blues on the Hammered Dulcimer. This class lets you play your blues into the corner and jam out in a fun way! We ll learn the skills that define playing the blues as well as some great songs to add to your repertoire.

4 SESSION I Hammered Dulcimer A Ruth Smith Playing Original Music. Learn some of Ruth s compositions while learning how to play with greater musicality. See how Ruth approaches writing music including writing the main theme, creating intro s and endings, and designing the arrangement style. Become more confident in your own creative skills and bring your own original music, if you wish. Lots to learn for everyone, whether or not you write your own original music. Ukulele B Butch Ross You Can Play the Ukulele! The hardest part about playing the Uke is spelling it correctly. In the from-the-ground-up class, we ll learn the basics of strumming and chording, some basic melody playing, and how to keep up in jams and sessions with other instruments. Vocal All Trish Ross Joy of Singing Skills. Come build up your singing skills in tone, breathing, projection, range, and performance skills while finding new freedom and confidence to explore and develop your own voice! Harmonica B Elwood Donnelly Notes, Chords & tunes on Major Key Harmonica. Participants will learn how to play straight harp (melody), with emphasis on learning familiar tunes in the 1st position. We will use the D harmonica. Bring a harmonica in the key of D, or purchase one in class for $10. Guitar B Hank Gruber You just decided to take up guitar or discovered your dad s old guitar in the closet and want to learn some easy chords. This is the place to start. Learn the basics common chords and strumming patterns. Class will focus on learning about the guitar along with three or four basic chords and easy strum patterns. Guitar B/I Steve Smith John Denver Songs Play & Sing Along! Learn to play together various favorite John Denver songs, learning John s guitar style as we play and sing many of his most memorable songs. This will be a fun sing and play along week, remembering John Denver and his music. Banjo B Jon Pickow Beginning Old Time Banjo. This class is designed to get you started on the right track and will cover the basic frailing strum pattern and chords, with exercises and tunes to get to playing quickly.

5 SESSION I Fiddle B David Wilson This class is for those just starting play. You will learn about the instrument and bow, proper bow technique, getting a good tone, intonation, and learn to play a few simple tunes everyone knows. Fiddle B/I Ken Kolodner Beginning Old Time Fiddle. This class for those relatively new to fiddling. Using as many tunes as we can, we will dive into the bowing ideas and left hand technique that gives fiddling that old time sound! We will address hand position and bowing technique as needed. (Written music with bowings will be provided, but bring your phone to record video.) Mandolin B/I Karen Jones We ll learn fundamental chords, back-up strumming for easy folk, blues, and bluegrass songs, like Sitting On Top of the World and St. James Infirmary, and a few fiddle tunes like Angelina Baker and more. (Lyric/chord sheets, tab and note transcriptions provided.) Autoharp B Mary Jo Ward You ll need one thumb pick and two or three finger picks! (Picks are available in vending area.) We ll learn basic strums, in different time signatures, and how to use your Autoharp to accompany singing, and to be a rhythm instrument for your jam. Penny Whistle B Eric Jarboe Beginning Penny Whistle. Learn the pennywhistle using popular KMW jam tunes such as Boatman, Columbus Stockade Blues, and Rosen the Bow. Penny Whistle B/I-I Cathy Wilde Leveling Up The Next Step In Your Playing. If you ve got D and G scales and a tune or two under your belt, you re ready to learn about ornamentation. In this class, we ll tackle slides, cuts, taps/strikes, and the almighty rolls that give the whistle its burbling sound. We ll also listen to different players and discuss their styles. Bring a whistle in D and a recording device. Fingering charts and notation provided. Folk Harp B Lorinda Jones Learn to Play the Harp! This class will focus on how to hold the harp, learn the names of the strings, basic finger technique and playing simple melodies and chords with one hand at a time. All sizes of folk (lever) harp are welcome and lap harp rentals are available.

Native American Style Flute B Marsha Harris The hauntingly beautiful sound of this instrument provides an avenue of personal expression. Basic skills will be covered to give you a great start! We ll learn a diverse array of traditional music as well as improvising and creating your own music. We will use an A minor (Am) flute and a limited number will be available for purchase or rent. Bowed Psaltery B Tish Westman Introduction to care, tuning and maintenance of your bowed psaltery. We will learn beginning skills and techniques while we learn some easy tunes. Also, we ll learn beginner basic theory, timing, counting and understanding what is on sheet music. Bass All Bryan Thomas Hearing Chords for Bassists. This workshop is for all bassists, beginner into intermediate and covers ear training and concepts for knowing how to put what bass note where. Digital Photography B-B/I Jennifer McWhirt We ll learn how to take great photos, edit your shots and then share. Please bring your camera, a new card, and a laptop/ipad, if you have one. **Basketry - Ribbed Egg Basket All Mary Carty This is a great basket for first time rib basket makers! Learn all the secrets for shaping a great looking basket. We ll also add a little color to this one! This basket is woven onto 8 oak hoops. Supplies $20 payable to instructor. **Drawing All Martin Rollins Adventures In Drawing! A drawing class that is really a seeing class, and one where open-eyes and open-minds are the primary focus. Using in-class exercises in sketching and drawing, as well as projects in both black and white and color, we ll build a foundation for seeing AND for drawing. $15 Materials Fee payable to instructor. **Stained Glass B Gale Sturm Learn how to mark and cut glass, grind, foil, solder glass, and take home a prize possession. The goals in this class are to help you become familiar with your dulcimer and learn basic skills in a fun, non-threatening environment, become successful playing several songs, and know about tablature and other resources to help you continue to learn. Mountain Dulcimer B/I Stephen Seifert Simple Fingerpicking is Beautiful! Fingerpicking doesn t have to be difficult. We ll sail through a bunch of simple arrangements and cover techniques that are essential and quite doable! Mountain Dulcimer B/I Erin Mae Songs in Minor Keys. We ll learn a song a day in a minor key to add some flavor to your repertoire. Mountain Dulcimer B/I Dave Haas Pretty Little Melodies. Learn to play slow songs with depth and expression by plucking the notes one at a time. Learn to play chords to accompany others. DAD Mountain Dulcimer B/I Janita Baker Intro to 4 Equi-Distant Strings. Starting with the basics of this versatile stringing, this class will explore why many songs are not only easier to play but sound better! The arrangements will cover many different styles of music and include both fingerpicking and strumming. For those with little or no experience with 4 ED playing. Come tuned D-A-A-D. Mountain Dulcimer B/I-I Joellen Lapidus Improvising Melody, Chords & Rhythms: Take The Risk! We will use simple, basic chord progressions, simple rhythms and tunings to give you an opportunity to listen to your inner musician and not the written page and begin to create music, which is another way to say improvise. Mountain Dulcimer I Linda Brockinton Irish Tunes of O Carolan. This Irish Harper in the 1600 s wrote tunes that transfer over to the dulcimer easily. We ll start with his first, Shebeg Shemore and finish with his last, O Carolans Farewell to Music, and many in between. His intricate music is great for left hand work. Also lots of hammer ons and pull offs and timing issues that make Irish music what it is.

9 SESSION II Mountain Dulcimer I Don Pedi Knee to Knee. Learn traditional versions of fiddle tunes for dulcimer. These are tunes Don learned directly from older generation masters in the aural tradition. Stories enhance the experience! We ll focus on learning by ear, but TAB will be provided at the end of class. Mountain Dulcimer I Mark Gilston Music of Scandinavia. Sweden has the Hummel. Norway has the Langaleik. Scandinavian music is well suited for dulcimer. In this class we ll learn simple Swedish, Norwegian and Danish tunes, and explore the different playing techniques and rhythms which makes them sound so beautiful and exciting. Mountain Dulcimer I - I/A Tull Glazener Sum of the Parts! We ll spend the week working on multi-part ensemble arrangements (all new music from previous years). Mountain Dulcimer I-I/A Aaron O'Rourke Mastering Variations. Have you ever heard a performer add a whole bunch of notes seemingly off the cuff in the middle of tune and thought, How d they do that? Well, it s definitely not magic, it s not some innate talent they were born with, and it s probably more accessible than it looks. In this class, we ll break down the subtle and not-so-subtle tricks to master melodic variations. Mountain Dulcimer I/A Susan Trump Modulation Playing in Other Keys Without a Capo! Learn chords and progressions in D, G, Am, and Em. Then we ll learn tunes in D, modulate to the new key and back to D. It s a beautiful way to add variety to your playing and it s easier than you think! DAD Mountain Dulcimer A Jessica Comeau Cantigas de Santa Maria. Our class will provide a sampling of the Songs of Holy Mary (Cantigas de Santa Maria), a sequence of popular medieval Marian songs written and composed in Spain in the 13th Century. The moods of these songs range from the reverently meditative to the lively and playful. Bowed Dulcimer - 1 B Ken Bloom We ll learn all the basics of this fascinating way to play along with appropriate tunes for solo and jamming pleasure!

10 SESSION II Hammered Dulcimer B Rick Thum Let s learn the ways to make understanding and playing your dulcimer easy. We ll cover how it works and how to make learning new songs fun, as well as all the basics a beginning player needs to know. We ll also learn some fun and popular jam tunes. Hammered Dulcimer B/I Ruth Smith Celtic Music for the New Player. Everyone needs a little Celtic music in their repertoire, so let s learn some of the universal favorites that are often played in jam sessions so you can jump right in and have fun! Hammered Dulcimer B/I Karen Alley Using Chords to Add Harmony. We ll discuss what chords are and where to find them, then move on to apply those chords to simple melodies. Learn how to figure out which chords to play and how to incorporate them into your arrangements. Hammered Dulcimer B/I-I Matt Dickerson Introduction to Rhythmic Playing. It s time to learn more than just melodies. This class will learn the basics of percussive techniques and weave them into your favorite tunes on the hammered dulcimer. Hammered Dulcimer I Carrie Pasma All you Need Is A Lead Sheet! Lead sheets are readily available and contain all the information we need to make music beautiful! We ll learn how to embellish and arrange with a basic melody and chord names. We ll expand your chord knowledge and learn some ideas for adding fills, arpeggios, runs, and more to our playing on the spot. This class is intended for those with basic understanding of HD layout and chords. Hammered Dulcimer I Karen Ashbrook Tunes from Around the World. Every two years the Cimbalom (Hammered Dulcimer) World Congress meets in a different county. In the final concert, a folk tune from the host country is played by all those countries represented. This class will cover the finale tunes from Slovakia, England, Taiwan, Hungary, Mexico and Germany, and more if there is time.

11 SESSION II Hammered Dulcimer I/A-A Tina Bergmann Syncopation & Rhythmic Tomfoolery! We ll learn an easy tune and apply all manner of exercises with rhythmic twists and turns to broaden our syncopation vocabulary. Even if you only master the first of the exercises, which are presented in order of difficulty, you ll be able to apply the syncopation freely to other tunes in your repertoire. Theory - How to Read Sheet Music All Jim Miller How to Read Music If You Don t. Music Theory For Everyone. This class will cover notes, time signatures, scales, chords and chord progressions. This is a step-by-step class for beginning to learn how to read and understand music notes and find them on your instrument. Ukulele B Rick Quisol In this introduction to ukulele you ll learn basic chords and strum patterns to be able to play a handful of popular tunes right away. Ukulele B/I & Up Butch Ross Beatles for Uke. The Beatles are a hip young band from Liverpool who are really going places. Come learn their fun and catchy tunes! Easy to sing while you play you already know most of the words! Vocal All Trish Ross Relaxation & Vocal Health for Singers & Speakers. Is your voice raspy? Lost your ability to sing high notes? Voice problems arise from a variety of sources including overuse or misuse. We ll use relaxation techniques, fun vocal exercises and songs, and more to find solutions! Ritchie Family Songs & Traditions All Jon Pickow This is a chance to learn and sing some of the favorite songs of Jean Ritchie and the Ritchie Family. Every song comes with a story as to how it found its way into the family repertoire, and how and when it was sung. We ll have time to explore some hymns and carols, work songs, murder ballads (and some other kinds), courting songs, children s songs, and songs of humor and true love! Bring your singing voice, your instruments, and your recording devices and we ll spend some time on the Ritchie porch. Song-Writing All Steve Smith Steve, an ASCAP award-winning songwriter, teaches how to create a well-crafted song (lyrics and music). Learn how to take an idea and develop it into a complete, polished song.

12 SESSION II BMG Orchestra Class (Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar) All Paul Oorts A century ago amateur orchestras with banjos, mandolins, and guitars were very popular in the so-called BMG Movement. This class will delve into some of the finest music published in that era and will be geared toward players who can read standard notation (tablature provided if needed). Guitar B/I Hank Gruber Back-Up For Other Instruments. Sharpen your accompaniment skills with some easy techniques. Students should already know simple chords like D, A, G, E, C and be able to change chords easily. We will review basic chord structure and fingering along with bass runs to compliment simple chords. Banjo B David Brooks Beginning Clawhammer Banjo. Learn banjo from the ground up. No experience necessary, though your experience playing dulcimer, guitar, etc., will be helpful. In this course you will learn a solid, rhythmic, right-hand stroke along with chords and melody for 2 4 tunes in the key of G. Tab will be provided. Fiddle B Karen Jones Learn the basics of tuning, bowing and noting on the fiddle by learning and singing simple folk melodies and learning some easy fiddle tunes like Brushy Fork of John s Creek and Squirrel Hunting (Note and tab transcriptions provided.) Fiddle I Ken Kolodner Old Time Fiddle Technique and Repertoire. For those who come equipped with some experience. We ll use some tunes from Kentucky and other less played old-time tunes, and we will cover several approaches to developing a rhythmic style. We will cover 3-1 ( circle ) bowing, ghosting, bow rocks, Nashville shuffle, mid-bow pulses and left hand techniques such as drones and chords. (Written music with bowings will be available but bring your phone to record video.) Mandolin B Tom Cunningham Mandolin is one of the most accessible instruments in the folk world, capable of playing both melodies and chords. We will start with holding the pick and the instrument, and then learn some simple tunes and chords to go along with them.

13 SESSION II Harmonica B+ - B/I Elwood Donnelly Harmonica The Next Level. Notes, Chords & Tunes on Major Key Harmonica. We will explore three positions on the harmonica: straight (melody), blues styles (cross-harp), and the relative minor, with emphasis on learning tunes in the 1st position. We will use the D harmonica. Bring yours with you or purchase one in class for $10. Autoharp B Toni Sager We ll learn the basics of the autoharp including strumming patterns, chord changes in the melody and much more! We ll even learn some accompaniment techniques. Autoharp I/A Les Gustafson-Zook Diatonic Autoharp Techniques. Make the most of your diatonic autoharp by learning how to maximize its potential in this class. Using waltzes, hymns and fiddle tunes, we ll explore creating sweet arrangements that can only be done on your diatonic. Bring a GD diatonic for maximum benefit. Penny Whistle B Cathy Wilde Zen Mind, Tinwhistle Mind Beginning Irish Whistle. In this class we ll cover breathing, articulation, fingerings, and learn a few tunes on the pennywhistle. If time and comfort levels allow, we ll also discuss some more advanced techniques and ornamentation. Bring a tinwhistle in D, and a recording device if you want. Fingering charts and notation will be provided. Penny Whistle B/I-I Mark Alan Wade Irish Ornamentation for Dummies Like Me! Learn WHY and HOW whistles use ornaments so you can predict WHEN to add them on our own. We ll move slowly so you can master each type and have plenty of time to apply them to fun tunes. You ll have fun learning a bit of the history behind these ornaments and leave the class with a handful of handy tips to use on your own. Native American Style Flute B-B/I Bing Futch Learning To Play Native American Style Flute. In this workshop you ll learn basics: flute anatomy, how to hold it, breath control, major and minor scales, ornamentation techniques and how to discover your very own spirit song. If you don t have a flute, Bing will have a limited supply of loaners. They are also for sale in the vending area. Key does not matter if you wish to bring your own.

14 SESSION II Folk Harp B DeeDee Tibbits We ll explore the basics of playing a folk harp including hand positions, simple chording, and finger exercises while learning some simple tunes. Folk Harp B/I Lorinda Jones Keep It Simple Arrangements. This class will focus on producing good tone while learning easy arrangements that are simple for those beginning to put two hands together. Discussion will also provide learning how to adapt existing song material to come up with an arrangement that works for the individual player. Upright Bass B Eric Jarboe In this beginning acoustic bass class you will learn how to anchor your dulcimer group with basic root-fifth bass lines. Music reading is not required. U bass, bass dulcimer, bass guitar, and Merimbula are also welcome. Upright Bass I Bryan Thomas Bass Role Expanded. This workshop is for all basses from upright to bass guitar, bass dulcimer, etc. Crafty but responsible ways to liven things up from the bottom! Orchestra B/I - A Steve Eulberg All instruments are welcome to join our Orchestra especially mountain and hammered dulcimers, fiddles/violins, basses, and more! We ll create that orchestral sound and play hymns, shape-note tunes, and classical music. We ll build our skills, and we will tackle some exciting new repertoire while learning about building, arranging for, and conducting ensembles in our own communities. Freestyle Clogging All Aubrey Atwater Clogging is a percussive form of dance that precedes tap dancing, with rhythmic tapping of the feet, traditionally danced to old-time fiddle tunes. Learn simple clogging (also known as flat-footing, jig dancing, or buck-dancing) steps learned from friends and masters in Kentucky and beyond. Please wear hard-soled shoes with a good slide! Digital Photography II I - I/A Jennifer McWhirt This class is for those who want to learn how to make great photos using the modes on their camera (Program/Aperture Priority/Shutter Priority/Manual). Please bring camera, new card, and laptop/ipad if you have one.

15 SESSION II **Basketry - Basic Market Basket All Mary Carty We will be making a small market basket, made on a 10 square oak handle. Great basket for using in the garden or just organizing things in your living space. You ll also be able to add some accent color reed. Supplies $15 payable to instructor. **Watercolor All Martin Rollins Sketching with Watercolors. This class focuses on working quickly with sketches and watercolors to create successful artworks. We will investigate sketching, color relationships and brushwork as tools and as a foundation for serious students and artists. $15 Materials Fee payable to instructor. ** Material fees required -- payable to instructor.

16 SESSION III Instrument Level Instructor Description Mountain Dulcimer B Joellen Lapidus Just the Basics. Learn how to tune your dulcimer and change your strings. We ll learn to read dulcimer tablature, play 3 different strums, chords, fingerpicking or flatpicking and play in 3 different tunings. We ll cover all the basics you need to start your dulcimer journey! Mountain Dulcimer B/I Jessica Comeau Ancient & Medieval Hymns. Many traditional hymns of faith have roots that go back to earlier centuries AD, either through their melodies or lyrics. Using a few simple tunes we will explore concepts such as harmonizing a scale and the many patterns that hold the keys to arranging. We ll work on suggested fingerings to make chord transitions a little smoother which will help with that choppy sound you may not want in your playing. We ll take some of the music from great composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Liszt, plus a few pieces that Bing has written especially for this workshop, and we ll assign different parts to different sections. Then, together, we ll make a joyful noise in triumphant harmony! Mountain Dulcimer I/A Butch Ross Songs of the 70s. Like the title says, come learn how well pop and rock songs from this decade fit with the mountain dulcimer. Capo required. Mountain Dulcimer A Stephen Seifert Playable Fancy Tunes in the Tuning. The tuning allows regular dulcimers to play chromatic music! In addition to bringing some cool arrangements, Steve will show you how to make some of your own in this versatile tuning. Bowed Dulcimer All Marsha Harris Historically, the mountain dulcimer was not only strummed and plucked, but bowed as well. This workshop will include bowing techniques, fingering positions, and more. If you don t have your own bowed dulcimer you can set up your standard dulcimer with a small piece of wood under the middle string. A few bows will be available if you don t have one. Chromatic Dulcimer I & Up Dana Gruber Chromatic Repertoire. This class is designed for chromatic players who are looking for music to play. We ll cover some theory and chord shape shortcuts, but mainly we will share music that requires more than a diatonic instrument. We will also cover ways to enhance the songs you already know. Hammered Dulcimer B DeeDee Tibbits The Best Adventure of All! Let s get acquainted with this amazing instrument by learning scales, arpeggios, drones, and more to make our tunes more complete. Hymns on the hammered dulcimer are simply inspirational. We will study favorite hymns in this class, learning the melody, chord-based harmonies, arpeggios and embellishment techniques which can also be applied to any type of music you play. Using a few tunes we will explore a wide range of backup ideas to include vamps, rhythmic drones, bass lines, chromatic lines, chord substitutions and much more. Also included how to hear I, IV, V, recognizing common chord progressions and tips for picking up tunes on the fly. (Written music provided but please bring a recording device such as a smart phone.) Hammered Dulcimer I & Up Rick Thum Christmas Repertoire. We will learn several Christmas songs and how to arrange them. These songs are very repetitive. Rick will show you how to make them fun and interesting to play. Lots of hands-on playing. Hammered Dulcimer I/A-A Karen Alley Playing with Rhythm Together. Listening to others while you re playing and intertwining challenging rhythms takes practice! In this class we ll give you that practice, using rhythmic versions of tunes from a variety of genres in two or more parts. Recording Your Music (All Instruments or Vocals) All Matt Dickerson Record Your Own Album At Home. Putting together a home studio set up can be both time consuming and expensive, but not if you know what you are doing. Come learn about affordable equipment and how to operate both the hardware and software for recording acoustic music in your own home. Matt will be bringing his studio equipment and computer for hands-on class recording and production of a CD. Ukulele B/I Danny Shepherd Ukulele Jam! We will play lots of songs using basic chords and strum patterns. Singing is encouraged. Having fun is mandatory! Let s Jam!

Yodeling All Mary Jo Ward Old Lady Who? This class will feature country and western style Yodeling, not Swiss style.
