3 HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE Use this in combination with your devotional book and Bible. Let these components and your teammates begin to prepare you for the good plans God has for you through serving globally. Each global serving trip is different even if you ve been there before. Most volunteers (goers) find that the better they prepare now, the better the end result in their life and the lives of those they went to serve SLM

5 The team meeting pre-work and team meetings themselves are set up in a way so you learn as much as you can when it s most convenient for you. You ll get together with your team when information needs to be covered in a group setting and to build relationships. Since everyone s schedule is different, we ve identified what material you can learn on your own outside of the team meetings (aka homework). We want your learning to be convenient and your team time to be meaningful. After all, God created us for relationship with him - and others! TRAINING CHECKLIST Complete before Team Meeting 1. Pre-work for this meeting averages 2 hrs./wk., less probably for returners. Visit the Impact Volunteers site: eaglebrookchurch.com/impactvolunteers. This site is where we ve got all the nifty resources for equipping you! That s where you ll need to go to access all the resources for your training (items in orange below). If you don t have access to a computer at home, please consider using one at your local library. Within 2 weeks of your trip acceptance SPIRITUAL PREP Since most of your success while serving depends on your relationship with God, complete the first 3 devotions before Meeting 1 in your devotional book. If you ve already decided to be a follower of Christ, your top 5 spiritual gifts BY 1.5 WEEKS BEFORE MEETING 1 to your trip leader for inclusion on a team summary. If you re interested in Christ but not quite ready to commit to him, skip this to do. Don t know your spiritual gifts or wonder if they ve changed? Watch the Gifts & Passions for Serving (GPS) video, and complete the Spiritual Gifts profile on that page. Know your gifts but unsure how to use them or what they mean? See the GPS guide. RELATIONAL PREP Watch your Trip Leader Welcome video. If it is not currently on the website, it will be coming soon and we will notify you when it is there. 6 Before Meeting 1 RELATIONAL PREP Download the Getting Acquainted profile from the site, fill it out and it to missons@eaglebrookchurch.com. DUE 1.5 WEEKS BEFORE MEETING 1. You want to know others, right? Well, they want to know you too. You ll get the team profiles at Meeting 1. your leader. Say hi and show what you know, specifically: In 3 sentences or less mention how you serving on this trip fits into EBC s mission and the Global Partner s mission. Resource: Global Partner video and Trip Leader Welcome video Let your leader know what questions, if any, you still have about your mission trip s purpose after watching the team s Global Partner video online. It s so helpful to leaders to know what questions you still have so they can support you well. Resource: Global Partner video What surprised you about your pre-trip faith assessment? Resources: Support Raising Communications Expand God s influence by inviting people to join you on this global journey to support you through finances, prayer, material donations or service as applicable. Frequently people who contact 40+ people meet their financial goals. Write which invite strategies you plan to use. Resource: Inviting Others My pre-trip invite strategies for including others on this journey are: SPIRITUAL PREP Complete pre-trip faith assessment in this guide. Post a pray on Eagle Brook s Prayer site to develop that spiritual practice and so others can be part of your journey who can t go themselves. (No fancy words needed; just be real.) 7 Assessing My Faith Faith. Obedience. What s the connection? Just like long road trips have their highs, lows, and occasional near misses so does our faith journey in life. The Bible states that faith comes by us believing. Belief comes through hearing God s words. It also mentions that faith without action is dead; that s the obedience piece. For most of us from time to time something gets in the way of our heart believing God s word, and our heart spits out disobedience into our life. This assessment is for you. While the main point of serving globally is to obey God s instructions to love others and reach others for Christ, it s also an opportunity to pursue spiritual growth and get better at relationships. God may use this trip experience to start removing those unwanted blockages in your heart, especially if you give him permission. You ll be asked to complete a pre-trip and post-trip faith assessment. From time to time you ll be asked to come back to it, update it, or consider telling your teammates something from it. We encourage you to tell others only as much as you think God would want you to. It s intended to be for your benefit and the benefit of His world. MY STEP Faith like lots of things in life is all about steps. If you could take one step forward from wherever you re at now in your faith, name it and make it your personal goal in addition to the main goal of serving others well on this trip. Feel free to consult God before picking something. My step is Now if I really wanted to stretch, my step would be STOP. You might remember as a kid playing a game where all of a sudden, you got an Advance 2 Spaces card. Well, good news! You just got something similar!
