2 Resource Guide for Websites Technology Resource Guide: What you need to make your website work for you get the leads and the conversions! The new reality is: This is the BEST time ever for you to build your website or have us build a website for you. There has never been an easier time for your to build your own presence on the internet to promote your business it is an amazing opportunity! This does not mean that it is easy or that you can make it overnight! There are no such things as shiny objects that will give you riches overnight. Nor is there any SEO company on the planet that can promise you - you will be on page one overnight. And there are no guarantees! But that is half the fun, isn t it! Take the risk to work hard to get the reward! I remember all the money we have wasted on bad tools, poor website templates, ineffective software, and all kinds of other shiny objects promising us leads, conversions, and customers. We finally just ditched it all! We were done!!! Have you ever felt that way about technology? You may be feeling intimidated and all this may sound confusing and then to top it all off, the frustration kicks in. Yes, that happens. But guess what! You will get over it, you will learn, and you will reach your website goals! 2

3 Zig Ziglar once said: If you want to learn any subject matter study for 1 hour a day for 5 years and you will know more than any specialist in that area. Well, I did not have 5 years to learn! I had to do this in less than one year. I did the math. Studying 5 hours a day for 1 year and about 10 hours a day for 6 months, would put me at the same level as those who get paid thousands of dollars for SEO consultations. My blogging took off, and within 6 months we were making over 6 figures by putting what I had learned into action. But I was still stuck on the website part. We still had to depend on paying webmasters from many different parts of the world thousands of dollars to build our websites. Website Design Results? #FAIL, #FAIL, #FAIL!!! Getting the right website for our different niches was the hardest part of our business building. We tried templated sites like Wix. We paid for so many wordpress themes that were all beyond my capabilities to learn. Then we would pay others to do the design, and the designs were all sub par! It was a huge waste of resources! There is always a lesson in every failure, so I kept on trying. Another website designer and SEO expert and I became friends on-line. Her name was Mary McKnight. We created a marketing company. She was brilliant at website coding and wordpress design. We were doing great all our businesses were rocking and then the unspeakable happened 3

4 Mary died suddenly on a snowy Christmas Eve in Boston, Massachusetts. It took me a while to get back on my feet after mourning her loss.. she left behind two young sons. We had website orders Mary had been working on and I knew nothing about the kind of coding she could do! I had no choice at this point but to figure this all out. Perhaps you have been in this situation where you are looking at some amazing Wordpress themes and you really want your website to look like that theme. I used to think that way too. So I would buy a theme, install it on my Wordpress site or a client s wordpress site, click publish and end up being super disappointed because the theme did no look anything like the sample!! Why is that? Because you have to still know coding in order to manipulate the theme to turn it into the design you want. Who has time for that and to run our businesses? Not I, said me:). Just in time right before I was about to throw up my hands. I found a newer product line of themes that were drag and drop. This theme developer had thought of everything. He is from Sweden currently living in Switzerland. Shane is very helpful and his blog happens to be one of the only subscriptions I look forward to getting in my inbox because he is always teaching us something or creating a new addition to his themes or his plugin. Amazing how things happen in life! I could learn this theme easily, the support was there anytime I messed up or had a question. One step at a time. Now, I am building the most amazing websites for small businesses, real estate agents, hotels, entrepreneurs, niche brands and more. 4

5 Step 1 : Discovery The first step is to know your avatar. This means you need to do your research. The #1 reason why websites fail is because they are not having a conversation with your ideal target person, audience, target market, ideal customer, etc. There is no work more important! Take the time to do this step! Most of my clients say it takes them a good 3 to 4 hours or research. You can poll your past customers, you can read through your data base, to see who is attracted to your business from the past. If you are new in your business or have never done this before, you have to start at step1. There is no skipping this step, do so at your own peril. When people ask me to do a website review for them or a website analysis 98% of the time the first thing I tell them is they have no avatar. You can Google, buyer persona templates to come up with some free templates you can use to start to build your avatar. 6 Step 2 : Start Your Blog Even before you design or build your website you need to start a blog. By starting your blog you are telling the search engines that you are alive, that you have content to share with your avatar. You can set up your website with a blog page being the only page published until you learn the rest. Here is a tutorial I created for you on how to start your blog in 5 minutes or less: In this tutorial I added the same tutorial in a video, if you need more visual steps. You will need to choose a host for your website/blog. This is who I use and recommend: You can choose different plans. If you are only using your hosting for one website, you only need the smallest plan. However if you are going to at some point as some more niche websites, you will need the next plan up which allows for multiple domains on your hosting account. More information about this step is in my how to start a blog link above. This is a resource guide. The actual tutorials are not in this guide. 6

Next you will need to choose a Wordpress theme. Going back to my story after years of research, spending tons of money, and years of frustration, I can say without a doubt this is the ONLY solution for a website: Your membership area in this theme has a ton of video tutorials and screenshot tutorials that are very well put together. You can learn a lot in their knowledge base. They also have great support. Please keep in mind your time zone, they are on European time. 7

8 Maybe at this time you only want to create landing pages and squeeze pages and don t want to take the time to go through a learning curve to build a website right at this time. If that is the case for you, then you can use LeadPages for your landing pages and your optin offers. You can make unlimited pages with LeadPages. 9 Step 3 : Organization Now you need to get organized. The good news is most of the top notch organization systems and apps are free. Because I am a very visual person, my favorite tool is Trello: This is where I organize all of my: website tasks, my blogging ideas, my tracking of my blog posts, and just about everything else Here is a YouTube Playlist I created for you on how to use Trello: You will learn a lot in these complimentary tutorials on using Trello for your business and your personal life. Trello is free for most users. They do have a enterprise version available if you need more security.. this is for larger businesses, political campaigns, and other areas of super sensitivity. Most of us only need to use the free version of Trello. When you invite your friends to use Trello for free, you can get a few perks, like free stickers and backgrounds for your Trello boards. Not essential but fun. 9

10 Step 4 : Content Creation Now you are ready to start sharing what your avatar needs from you! Your tribe is waiting! Make sure you show up! What kind of content you create depends on who your avatar is and how she or he wants to be connected with you. But all content starts first with the written word, which is your blogging. Blogging is free, it only takes time. Blogging is the best way for the search engines and your avatar to find you. Don t have time to blog? We can do it for you. It is still best for you to blog, however, we understand there are situations where you can t get it done or maybe you don t like the way you write. Maybe you got a D in spelling and are now self conscious. Try it out, you may get hooked! But if not, no worries, no stress. You can hire my Virtual Assistant team to get it done for you. The next important content strategy are your graphics. Graphics can be SEO d with a great impact on your search engine results. Take as many photos as you can yourself.

For graphic images that look amazing you can sign up for free at: They have awesome photos you can use with their creative commons license, no attribution required. DO NOT get images from Google searches!!!! All images are copyrighted on the internet! That can be a VERY costly mistake!!! Then do text overlays. Then apply SEO to each of your graphic images. The tools I use to create graphics are pixabay and my keynote on my mac. I also use canva.com for Facebook Ads and specific sized images. All of these apps are free. Make your images shine! You can create videos without you being the center of attention. YouTube is the best place to upload your videos, before you add them to your blog because Google owns YouTube. There are people that sell entire courses just on YouTube SEO for more than any of my total and complete courses cost. Because I am a Mac user- video is SUPER fast! I highly recommend you add to your birthday or Christmas list to get yourself an imac for video and graphics! I am all about doing tasks fast! And Macs are super fast for video production and graphics. YouTube has a free video editor called, YouTube Creative. You can use that if you are on a windows pc. For Mac: use imovie, super simple to learn, fast and FREE. If you want to do screen recording I highly recommend ScreenFlow. You can get it from the Apple App Store. Start creating videos. 14 Step 6 : Website Design Now you can start to design your website! Make sure to follow my blueprint on the pages you must have on your website. 15 Step 7 : What If? What if you already have a website? Answer the following questions: Are you getting Traffic? Are you getting customers? Are you getting leads? Are you getting calls or contact requests? Are you NOT found on Google? Did you used to get a lot of business and suddenly you are not getting any? Were you on page one on Google and suddenly, you are not there? Did you participate in any linking exchanges with your domain? Is your website mobile responsive? If any of those pertain to you, you will need to get a website analysis done on your domain. We will then be able to ascertain if you need to have your website detoxed. Website analysis is $600 with no obligation for any ongoing fees. Website detoxes are $1500. with no obligation for any ongoing fees. Detoxing a website is a manual and labor intensive process. I can usually look at you and your competitors and tell you if your site is just bad on SEO but there is no way to tell if you had a heavy google filter that needs a detox without doing a site analysis, unfortunately. 16 Step 8 : Conversions Next up: Traffic and Conversion Now that your site is showing up for organic searches you will want to increase that traffic with Facebook ads, social tweets, etc. You will also want to start working on your conversions. You want that traffic to convert into customers. You will need to set up conversion funnels in your website and drive traffic directly to those optin forms to start to collect addresses. In the Thrive Content Builder- there are so many tools for you to use to increase your conversions, test your offers, and to track your traffic and conversions. You can also do this in LeadPages if you don t want to use Thrive Themes. Both of these products have training in this area. I am certified to put funnels and conversion processes together for my clients and for companies.
