6 How to Assemble A Fraction Ruler Materials In order to complete the steps below, the following items are needed: Tagboard copies of the fraction ruler (1 per student) Scissors (1 per student) ⅛ paper punch (1 per class) Paper fasteners and washers (5 per ruler) Procedure Each fraction ruler can be assembled as outlined below. 6 7 Step 1: Duplicate the Fraction Ruler Master on tagboard or card stock (see Fraction Ruler Masters in the appendix). Step 2: Cut out each section of the ruler along the border lines using a scissors. Step 3: Use a ⅛ paper punch to make the required holes in each section of the ruler. Step 4: Fasten the ruler together using ½ or ⅜ brass paper brads and washers. Be sure that the numbers 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 are showing when the ruler is assembled. Starting at zero and placing successive sections on top will insure that this will happen. 6
