The attacks by groups of over 100 people have been occurring over the last two months across Malawi, an impoverished African country. Why are the people being attacked? But tragically, belief in these blood-suckers who stalk their unsuspecting victims at night is common in some of the poorest regions of the world. This fear has led to deadly mob attacks in Malawi which has resulted in the deaths of nine 2: vampires and the arrests of 140 people responsible for these killings. 2 The situation has become so serious that police in Malawi, a country in southeast Africa, have claimed that the vampire attacks by large groups of people have 3: out of control. The Inspector General of Police, Lexon Kachma told Associated Press that rumours of vampires had led to nine people being attacked and killed. In the most recent attack, a man who suffered from 4: was burned to death in Blantyre Malawi s second largest city. After the most recent killing in Blantyre the country s president, Peter Mutharika appealed for calm and for common sense to 5:.
