Written by two unknown scriptwriters and made for a small budget of just $114,000 Night of the Living Dead was nationally slated by movie critics. Yet that movie launched the zombie-craze which has continued to grow in popularity through movies, on TV and in books, magazines and comics. Simply, the co-writer and director of Night of the Living Dead, George A Romero is responsible almost single-handily for creating the cartoon of the fictional modern zombie. 2 Mr. Romero who has been christened The Godfather of the Dead went on to write, act, produce and direct many more horror movies, most of them centered upon a zombie death, often in small rural American towns.
