Head coach Pam Bustin s squad compiled a 14-7 ledger and concluded the fall ranked sixth in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and senior midfielder Aileen Johnson repeated as NFHCA All- Americans, with Blazing being selected to the first team and Johnson earning a spot on the second team. Blazing paced the ACC and ranked eighth among all goalkeepers nationwide in save percentage (.778), and rounded out her career ranked third in program history in career saves (385) and goals against average (1.46). Anchored by Blazing in the cage, the Blue Devil defense posted four shutouts on the fall and held 13 of its last 14 opponents to two goals or fewer. Junior Heather Morris paced the attack in points (26) and goals (11) while sophomore Ashley Kristen ranked second in both categories and led the team in assists (9). Morris and Kristen were joined in reaching double figures in the points column by teammates Johnson (12), junior Hunter Bracale (11), sophomore Alyssa Chillano (10) and senior Amanda Kim (10). Duke matched a program record with seven players on the NFHCA All-South Region squads. Blazing and Johnson were named to the first team while senior back Hannah Barreca, Kim, Morris, Chillano and Kristen all appeared on the second team. The Blue Devils also had four representatives on the 2015 All-ACC teams, as Blazing and Johnson were on the first team and Barreca and Kim were tabbed to the all-conference second team. Duke finished among the top 10 teams in the final rankings for the third straight year. DUKE IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP The Blue Devils made the program s sixth appearance in the national semifinals and second in the past three seasons... Duke owns an all-time record of (.600) in the NCAA Tournament after the squad fell to North Carolina in the semifinals... The Blue Devil program has received bids to the tournament 14 times, including four out of the last five years under head coach Pam Bustin s leadership. VETERAN DUO TABBED ALL-AMERICANS Redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and senior midfielder Aileen Johnson were selected for All-America honors by the NFHCA at the conclusion of the season... Blazing was recognized with first team accolades while Johnson earned a spot on the second team... Both were All-Americans a year ago... Duke featured multiple All- America selections for the third consecutive season. BLAZING NETS POSTSEASON ACCOLADES After concluding an impressive career by leading Duke to the NCAA semifinals for the second time in three seasons, redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing was named one of four nominees for the prestigious Honda Sport Award for field hockey... Presented annually by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA), the Honda Sport Award signifies the best of the best in collegiate athletics... Blazing was also named the recipient of the Elite 90 award at the NCAA Championship banquet in Ann Arbor. DUKE IN THE NATIONAL LANDSCAPE In the final edition of the NCAA Division I team statistics, the Blue Devils ranked ninth in defensive saves with 10 on the season... Duke also ranked among the top 30 teams in the country in goals against average (14th, 1.42), scoring margin (20th, 0.87), shutouts per game (22nd, 0.19), goals per game (30th, 2.38) and points per game (30th, 6.71). THIRD TIME S THE CHARM After dropping high-scoring affairs to Virginia during the regular season and in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, Duke turned in a total team performance to defeat the Cavaliers, 2-1, in the NCAA quarterfinals... Senior Amanda Kim tapped in the deciding tally late in the first half, and the defense - anchored by critical saves from redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing - remained steady in the second period to preserve the victory... The win sent the Blue Devils to the national semifinals for the second time in three seasons. SCHEDULING THE BEST The Blue Devils rounded out the season by facing a top- 15 opponent for the 18th time in 21 games, giving them the nation s strongest schedule... The 2015 slate featured 13 teams ranked in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I poll of the season, including four of the top five squads in No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Syracuse, No. 4 Virginia and No. 5 Maryland. 4 BUSTIN YEAR-BY-YEAR PAM BUSTIN HEAD COACH FIFTH SEASON AT DUKE MASSACHUSETTS, 1990 The 2013 NFHCA South Region Coach of the Year and a member of the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame, Pam Bustin has revitalized the Duke field hockey program in her five seasons in Durham, guiding the Blue Devils to a ledger and a trip to the 2013 NCAA title game. The 2015 season saw Duke earn a spot in the NCAA semifinals for the second time in three years. Under Bustin s direction, the Blue Devils went 14-7 against the nation s strongest schedule, with 11 of the 14 wins coming against ranked opponents. The squad matched a program record with seven players on the NFHCA All-South Region teams, and featured a pair of All-Americans in goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and midfielder Aileen Johnson. The Blue Devils earned their third NCAA Tournament bid in four years in 2014, concluding the season in the quarterfinals with a 13-7 record. Bustin s squad started off the fall on a six-game win streak for the program s best start to a season since Duke hosted the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2008 and boasted three All-America selections in Abby Beltrani, Blazing and Johnson. A historic 2013 campaign culminated with Duke reaching the NCAA championship match for the first time since The Blue Devils reached the title match with a 3-2 semifinal upset of top-ranked and top-seeded Maryland, a win that also marked the 200th of Bustin s collegiate coaching career. The squad finished the fall with a 17-7 ledger, including five wins over top-10 opponents, while Paula Heimbach, Emmie Le Marchand and Blazing received All-America recognition and Bustin was named the South Region Coach of the Year. In 2012, Duke sent six players to the Junior Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, where they gained valuable international playing experience despite missing five regular season games. The Blue Devils concluded the fall with a 7-11 record, though 10 of the 11 losses on the season were to opponents ranked in the top 25 nationally. Bustin s first year at Duke saw the team finish the season ranked sixth in the nation, advance to the 2011 ACC Championship match with a 2-1 victory over eventual national champion Maryland in the semifinals and earn an NCAA tournament bid. Bustin earned ACC Coach of the Year honors at the conclusion of the season for the third conference coach of the year accolade of her career. She was previously named Big East Coach of the Year and MAC Coach of the Year. In four years, Bustin has overseen 13 All-America selections, 27 All-South Region picks and 17 All-ACC honorees. During her tenure, the team has also excelled off the field with 25 selections to the All-ACC Academic team. The squad has been recognized at a national level, twice earning Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team distinction after compiling a collective team grade point average that ranks among the best in the country. Individually, 30 Blue Devils have been named to the Division I National Academic Squad, with Lauren Blazing and Kendra Perrin receiving Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction accolades and Blazing winning the Elite 90 Award in USA FIELD HOCKEY EXPERIENCE In addition to her collegiate coaching duties, Bustin currently serves as an assistant coach with the United States National Under-19 and Under-21 teams, working regularly to develop the nation s junior players. Prior to assuming her current position with U.S. Field Hockey, she was an assistant for the U.S. National Team, helping the United States to an eighth place finish at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Bustin guided the United States to the country s first Olympic berth since 1996 as the team went 6-0 at the Kazan Olympic Qualifier in Bustin is a U.S. Field Hockey accredited Level III coach and instructs coaching courses throughout the country as well. Prior to coaching at the Olympic level, Bustin served as team captain on the United States Under-21 team from , competing in the 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990 U.S. Olympic Festivals. In 1989, she helped the U.S. capture a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Games before being named to the U.S. National Team, playing with the national squad through the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
