The contest will be broadcast on RSN and ACC Network Extra. The Blue Devils enter the postseason ranked third in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll and having won eight of their last nine games. A win Thursday would give head coach Pam Bustin the 275th victory of her career. Head coach Pam Bustin s squad enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive season. Duke is all-time in the ACC Championship with three trips to the title match (1999, 2003, 2011). The program is historically in quarterfinal contests and 2-2 when playing as the tournament s No. 2 seed. Bustin has guided the Blue Devils to a 4-7 record in the tournament since taking over the program in LAST TIME OUT Four different Blue Devils scored as Duke shut out Ohio, 4-0, last Friday in the regular season finale in Athens, Ohio. A solid defensive performance gave the Blue Devils their seventh shutout of the season. Duke capped the regular season at 14-4, winning eight of the final nine contests leading into the postseason. TYNAN APPROACHING CENTURY MARK With two assists in the regular season finale at Ohio, senior forward Rose Tynan pushed her career points total to 98, two shy of the century mark. The feat that would put her in elite company at Duke. The native of Auckland, New Zealand is 12th in program history in career points (98) and tied for 10th in goals (42). An impressive defensive effort guided the Blue Devils to a 1-0 shutout of the then-12th ranked Orange in the ACC opener. The Blue Devils held Syracuse without a shot in the victory, marking the first time since a 2-0 shutout of Delaware Aug. 31, 2008 that a Duke team held its opponent without a shot. Senior forward Caroline Andretta notched the lone goal in this fall s meeting with the Orange, finishing on a feed from freshman Leah Crouse in the 21st minute. Duke and Syracuse have never met in the ACC Championship. 4 Head coach Ange Bradley s squad is second in the ACC in saves per game (4.93) behind the play of goalkeeper Borg van der Velde, who owns a 1.76 goals against average and a.716 save percentage to go along with two shutouts. Roos Weers leads the team in scoring with 21 points (9g, 3a) while Chiara Gutsche has totaled 16 points on eight goals. The Orange are 4-5 in ACC Championship play since joining the league STEELE TOPS 200-SAVE MARK With six stops Oct. 21 at North Carolina, redshirt junior goalkeeper Sammi Steele surpassed the 200-save mark for her career. She is one of only nine goalkeepers in program history to achieve the milestone. Steele owns 201 saves in 59 career contests and boasts a.710 save percentage. She has also logged 17 shutouts in three seasons as the Blue Devils starter in goal. SENIOR SEND-OFF Duke honored its six-member senior class with a win over Boston College in the regular season home finale Oct. 19 in Durham. Caroline Andretta, Morgan Bitting, Tessa Gote, Christy Palazzese, Erin Scherrer and Rose Tynan have guided the Blue Devils to a four-year record of and three straight NCAA quarterfinals appearances, including a trip to the national semifinals in ON THE ROAD AGAIN Head coach Pam Bustin s squad is 9-3 in contests played away from Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium this season. Twelve of the Blue Devils 18 regular season contests were on the road this fall. BITTING, TYNAN SELECTED FOR NFHCA SENIOR GAME Duke captains Morgan Bitting and Rose Tynan were named Oct. 17 to the 2018 Victory Sports/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior Game roster. The annual contest is slated for Friday, Nov. 16 in Louisville, Ky., - the site of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. Bitting and Tynan were two of 38 senior student-athletes selected to participate in the contest at Louisville s Trager Stadium. IN THE STATISTICAL LANDSCAPE The Blue Devils enter the weekend ranked among the conference leaders in several statistical categories. The squad ranks second in goals per game (3.22), points per game (8.94), shots per game (17.94), shutouts per game (0.39) and scoring margin (1.72). Duke is 11th nationally in goals per game. In addition to ranking among the conference leaders in scoring, senior forward Rose Tynan is top-25 nationally in goals per game and junior midfielder Margaux Paolino is top-30 in the country in assists per game. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Sammi Steele ranks among the top 20 goalkeepers nationally in goals against average. SENIOR FORWARDS SETTING THE TONE Senior Erin Scherrer notched the first hat trick of her career Sept. 14, pacing the Blue Devils to a 6-3 victory over No. 14 Saint Joseph s. Her seven points on the day marked the most by a Blue Devil since Heather Morris registered eight against James Madison Sept. 11, Fellow senior Rose Tynan is leading the squad with 13 tallies while classmate Caroline Andretta ranks second on the team with 11 goals. Tynan has a team-high 33 points, followed by Andretta with 25. BUSTIN HITS CENTURY MARK AT DUKE Duke s Aug overtime victory against Liberty marked a milestone for head coach Pam Bustin, who recorded her 100th win at Duke with the result. Bustin owns an impressive ledger of in her eighth season at the helm of the Duke program. She is overall for her career, ranking her 12th among all active Division I head field hockey coaches. Bustin is just the third head coach in program history to reach the 100-win milestone, joining current Duke administrator Jacki Silar and Beth Bozman. Over the past seven seasons, Bustin has directed the Blue Devils to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including two trips to the national semifinals and a berth in the 2013 title game. PAIR OF FORMER BLUE DEVILS RETIRE FROM TEAM USA Early September saw two former Blue Devil standouts announce their retirement from the U.S. senior national team following this summer s trip to the Vitality Women s Hockey World Cup Duke graduate Lauren Blazing retired from the squad after spending four years representing Team USA at the highest level. A goalkeeper from Durham, N.C., Blazing recorded 11 international caps with the U.S. national team since first being named to the roster in Duke graduate and longtime U.S. defender Stefanie Fee wrapped up her career with 114 international caps in six years of action. She was a part of several medalist performances and a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. PAOLINO SHINES FOR U.S. IN WORLD CUP Blue Devil junior Margaux Paolino scored twice in three matches while representing the United States in July s Vitality Women s Hockey World Cup in London. She found the back of the cage on a corner opportunity in Team USA s World Cup opener against Ireland and put away a rebound early in the squad s contest against India later in the tournament. Paolino earned her first international cap with the U.S. women s national team in February and was awarded a spot on the senior team roster in March. She was joined on Team USA s World Cup roster by former Blue Devils Stefanie Fee ( 12) and Lauren Blazing ( 16). SUMMER HAPPENINGS Junior back Jillian Wolgemuth traveled to Argentina with the U.S. U-21 women s national team for a three-game test series against the country s U-21 team. Wolgemuth then embarked for Vietnam with the Rubenstein-Bing Student- Athlete Civic Engagement Program (ACE). Junior midfielder Haley Schleicher recently returned to the U.S. following her time with the ACE in China program. In May, Duke assistant coach Ralph Boersma was named an assistant coach for USA Field Hockey s U-19 women s national team for the season. The following month saw five Blue Devils senior Caroline Andretta, junior Kirby Comizio and sophomores Lexi Davidson, Lily Posternak and Libby Thompson receive invitations to take part in USA Field Hockey s 2018 Young Women s National Championships. 7 PAM BUSTIN HEAD COACH EIGHTH SEASON AT DUKE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, 1990 A two-time ACC and NFHCA South Region Coach of the Year and a member of the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame, Pam Bustin has revitalized the Duke field hockey program in her seven seasons in Durham, guiding the Blue Devils to a ledger and a trip to the 2013 NCAA title game. Under Bustin s direction, the Blue Devils made their 16th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017, reaching the quarterfinal round for the fifth consecutive year. The squad rounded out the season at 17-4 and featured a trio of All-Americans in Alyssa Chillano, Margaux Paolino and Rose Tynan. Duke also led the ACC in all-conference and all-academic team selections for the 2017 campaign. Bustin earned the 250th win of her career in a 3-0 shutout of Old Dominion Sept. 24, becoming the 14th active Division I head field hockey coach to reach the milestone. In seven years, Bustin has overseen 18 All-America selections, 38 All-South Region picks and 25 All-ACC honorees. During her tenure, the team has also excelled off the field with 36 selections to the All-ACC Academic team. The squad has been recognized at a national level, earning Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team distinction three times after compiling a collective team grade point average that ranks among the best in the country. Individually, 32 Blue Devils have been named to the Division I National Academic Squad, with four student-athletes receiving Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction accolades and Lauren Blazing winning the Elite 90 Award in In addition to her collegiate coaching duties, Bustin has served as an assistant coach with the United States National Under-19 and Under-21 teams, working regularly to develop the nation s junior players. She was previously an assistant for the U.S. National Team, helping the United States to an eighth place finish at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Bustin guided the United States to the country s first Olympic berth since 1996 as the team went 6-0 at the Kazan Olympic Qualifier in Bustin is a U.S. Field Hockey accredited Level III coach and instructs coaching courses throughout the country as well. Prior to coaching at the Olympic level, Bustin served as team captain on the United States Under-21 team from , competing in the 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990 U.S. Olympic Festivals. In 1989, she helped the U.S. capture a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Games before being named to the U.S. National Team, playing with the national squad through the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Bustin was selected to the USA Field Hockey s Hall of Fame Class of 2014, the first group to be inducted since A 1990 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Bustin was a four-year letterwinner ( ), team captain, team MVP and All-Atlantic 10 honoree, in addition to garnering a first team All-America selection and Honda-Broderick Award nomination as female athlete of the year in UMass made the NCAA Tournament in each of her four years in Amherst and advanced to the national semifinals in In the spring of 2012, Bustin was inducted into the UMass Hall of Fame.
