Responder bids lowest minor or 3NT with a rubbish hand. 1-2 / Auctions Strong hand bids naturally except 2NT which Asks. This is what we usually bid with a fit or with a balanced hand. 1-2 / 2NT ---Now 3NT is a balanced minimum, 3 minor is 6 card suit (may have M splinter if minimum), 3 other minor natural, 3 M 6 card suit splinter in bid suit and upper range. With the weak hand you can pass or raise. Raise to3 / is upper range (12-13) invitational to 3NT. 1-2Ş/«auctions Weak hand can pass or raise (not inv. but 2M bidder can rarely bid game) Other bidding is natural with the strong opener.

5 3 1 / OPENING-Note 3 Responses to 1 Opening 1 = natural 5+ HCP 1N = 6-12 semi forcing i.e. pass with Bal only 2 = Artificial GF, not 3 or 4 card support, not 4 + over unless longer m 2 = 3 card support or 13+ GF 3 card support 2 = card support 2 = card suit 2NT = 13 + GF with 4 card support, may have Qsp but not Qvoid 3 = card support 3 = card support 3 = Pre-emptive, 3-6 HCP 3 = any void, Assume (stronger if bids again after signoff), 3 NT asks void 3N = Qsp in, HCP, usually 4 card support 4 = Qsp, usually 4 card support 4 = Qsp, usually 4 card support 4 = pre-emptive 4 /5 /5 = ERKB 1-1 2NT = long or with Qsp or Q void with hand not good enough to commit to game --3 = strong relay, -3 opened M /3NT= long, others = +, with Qsp. (note 3 other M = Qsp in clubs), 4 / = Q void --3 = weak for pass/correction, 3 = GF 1-2 Auctions: 13+ GF (a) Balanced (b) (+/- Shorter ) (c) (+/- shorter ) (d) both minors 2 = Balanced or 5+ with 4+ /4+ 2 = 6+ Nat =5+/ NT = any 5/4/4/0 2 = ask 2 = 2nt = balanced --Then 3 / = natural 5+ suits. Subsequent bids by responder are cues with support other = and response as if to flannery ask (over 2, 2nt is flannery ask) --3 / = 6 card suit. 2NT = balanced or minor suit not biddable. Over 2NT opener bids 3 of lowest 3 card minor, rebids Major or bids 3NT. -Then responder can bid 3 naturally (5), raise 3 card minor, support opened Major, or cue the other Major with 5 of bid minor. 2nt = flannery ask, other natural. 3 / = 6 card suit. 3 = void ask, then next bid sets suit

6 3 / = 5+/ Responder can bid the other minor naturally, support major, bid 3NT or support the bid minor by cue bidding the other major or raising the bid minor (without a cue in the other Major) 4 3 = SEMISOLID+ Natural developments except 3 which is artificial slam try, probably with support 3 = 5+/ Natural developments, 4NT is RKCB in Flannery ask: 2NT. This applies when 1M-2 and then responder shows 2 suits, either 2 other M or 2, then ask is 2NT except when opener has after 2 rebid and 2 relay. Responses: 3 = 5/4 minimum 3 asks 3 = 5/5 minimum or any 6/4 3 asks 3 /3 = 5/4/3/1 with low/high singleton 3nt = 5/4/2/2 3 3nt 4 = 5/5 minimum = 6/4 minimum = 6/4 maximum 3 /3 = 5/4/3/1 maximum with low/high singleton 3nt = 5/4/2/2 4 = 6/5 minimum After flannery ask we may be at a high level when responder has clarified his hand. Then the following rule applies; If 3 opened M available this or new suit shows slam try whilst 4M or other game bids deny slam interest. If 3 opened M not available then 4M/bid of 2 nd suit is slam try and 4NT is RKCB in opened M. 4 is puppet to 4H, then can pass 4H or bid a new suit naturally to play without slam interest. 4NT is now RKCB in 2 nd suit shown by opener.

7 5 When the second suit is diamonds (you wish to play in diamonds) and 3 opened M is bypassed puppet to 5 with no slam interest and bid 5 diamonds as TS In summary 4 is a weak puppet or to RKCB in 2 nd suit when we are above 3 opened Major after a flannery ask. 1-2 Auctions: 10-12(13), 3 card support OR (13) 14+ GF 3 card support 2 = Balanced or any --Now 3 = Invitational with 12/13, others are FG. -New suits are Fit (5+), (after fit responders next bid is natural, subsequent bids are cues) -2NT GF balanced (after 2NT opener bids out his shape and then subsequent bids are cues.) -Jumps are splinters, then subsequent bids are cues 2«= GF 14+ (bid 2«with all 14+) --Now 4 = limit others show 14+.
