Any display situated at a distance from your primary display. Put Kringle Candles in various locations throughout your establishment and you ll maximize the chances for your customers to encounter, experience, enjoy and ideally buy. How successful is outposting? Very! Retailers of every type and size utilize outpost displays to ring up bigger sales. In the grocery store, you ll always find bananas in the produce section, but you ll also often see them up near the register line. Big home improvement warehouses make sure that duct tape is visible in multiple sites storewide. And virtually all of the retailers moving lots of Kringle product also display our candles in more than one place. 1STEP START WITH A GOOD FOUNDATION At the headquarters Kringle Candle store in Bernardston MA, our designers utilize a variety of outpost displays, too. Small tables, bookcases, wall-hanging shelves and curio units are ideal, and there s no need to buy such fixtures new. Flea markets, thrift shops and garage sales all offer ideal outpost units on the cheap. In fact, the more patina a found object possesses, the more charm and visual interest it can offer. Don t worry too much about condition or appearance. If their distressed look really doesn t work for and your setting, a quick coat of paint works wonders on the cheap. But even that is rarely a necessity. Remember, most customers will be concentrating on the goodies above, not the furniture below. As long as the unit is stable, splinter-free (if wood) and can safely hold the weight of your merchandise, you re good to go! How! 20 21

12 3ADD THE CANDLES Now s the time to place your Kringle Candle merchandise. Start with your largest styles STEP near the base and save the smaller ones for the top. It s most appealing visually and usually the safest from a stability standpoint. But you can also blend in small styles alongside larger; place a handful of DayLights alongside bigger Classics and multi-wick candles. You ll work more inventory into the display and help spur impulse and add-on sales. PROP UP THE LOOK Scented candle sales typically benefit from the presence of other eye-catching props that help customers to visualize the fragrance. Natural or synthetic dried flowers, artificial berry picks, spice pods and similar natural accents can be perfect. The sky is the limit - blend in cinnamon sticks, vanilla beans, pressed roses and the like, in accordance with the fragrances you re offering. 4STEP CREATE UPS AND DOWNS WITH RISERS Don t just stick your merchandise on a flat surface, use risers to create a split-level effect. Risers are any objects that will help you achieve a tiered or 2STEP pyramidal effect. Lifting some pieces up really shows off the goods and creates far more surface area for displaying items of all sizes. Bricks, scraps of wood and old hard bound books all work well. If your outpost is set against a wall, build the back up high. If it s meant to be shopped from all sides, make the center the tallest, wedding-cake style. You can wrap risers in pieces of neutral colored remnant cloth to hide them, or choose colored fabrics if you re working toward a thematic look. Patterns and shades should augment and complement the candle fragrances and colors. Don t forget to mix in some non-candle merchandise alongside your Kringle items. Candle glassware, snuffers and similar candle-care items are naturals, but the offerings can include a host of unrelated smaller items too, such as picture frames, mirrors and vases. The more opportunities you can create to help people envision how candles fit into their daily lives, the better. Strive to match colors and textures until it all looks good to you it ll probably look good to your customers, too! Kringle Candles fly out of our store!
