2 For those of us who love warm weather and live where the seasons change, winters can be long and even make us feel a bit blue. Once Old Man Winter digs his claws into us, it can be hard to remember what it feels like to be able to roll out of bed, throw on some shorts and run errands in flip flops with the car windows down. And if you ve ever thought about getting a fiberglass swimming pool, all that reminiscing about summer sun and fun can bring those thoughts bubbling up to the top of your mind. You might be saying to yourself, This is no time to be thinking about swimming pools. I ll think about that in the summer, when it s warmer. Well, you might be surprised to learn that wintertime is actually the very best time to think about buying a fiberglass swimming pool. Reason Number One: It s Dealers Downtime Walking into a pool dealership to buy a pool in the middle of the summer is like walking into a flower shop on Valentine s Day to buy a dozen roses. It s not that the florist doesn t want to sell you the roses, it s just that there are an awful lot of other people who also want roses, and everyone needs them right away. Like so many seasonal businesses, pool dealers feel the crush of the summer season every year. And they re not just selling pools; they re coordinating deliveries and installations as well. They will give you as much of their time as they can, but, as is true with all of us, they only have so many hours in a day. Just as savvy romantics order their roses at the beginning of February, savvy potential pool owners begin their shopping in November and order while the snow is still flying. In the winter months, dealers simply have a little more down time, and you ll be sure to have his undivided attention on the most important pool of the season-- yours!

3 Reason Number Two: Get Em While They re Hot! All retailers offer pre-season sales and promotions. For example, air conditioners are a better deal in April than they are in August, but if you re looking for a snowblower, August is the perfect time to shop! The same is true with swimming pool shopping. While your local pool dealer may or may not be offering discounts on the pool itself, they ll probably be offering lots of other goodies, such as installation discounts and complimentary pool accessories. (To use our Valentine s Day analogy, have you ever priced roses on February 15th?) If you like to feel like you got the best possible deal on your purchases (and who doesn t?) winter is a great time to close the deal on your pool. SPECIAL OFFER Reason Number Three: Maximize Your Swim Season Once you ve committed to getting a pool, you want to swim in it ASAP. In order to do that, you need to break ground as soon as the weather allows, and you d be surprised at how much of that work can be done while it s still pretty cold outside. Actually, many pool installers prefer to work in cooler weather. Heat and humidity create their own set of problems. While work certainly can t be done in blizzard conditions, a few chilly but clear days can actually allow for a good chunk of work to be done. The more you get done in the cooler months, the sooner you ll be chillin by your fabulous new pool when the weather heats up.

4 Reason Number Four: Take Your Time Investing in a fiberglass pool is a big decision and it s not something you want to rush into. There are lots of things to consider: What shape and size will you choose? How will you landscape around it? What features are most important to you and your family? Will you use it for exercise, teaching the kids how to swim, hanging out with friends, or all of the above? There are so many amazing options available-- you want to make sure you give yourself plenty of time to consider them all and you don t want to be doing that under pressure to keep to an installation schedule. 5 Reason Number Five: Get Ahead of the Pack By the time warm weather rolls around, the best contractors are often already fully booked. There are a lot of schedules to coordinate; you ve got to get utilities marked, schedule plumbers, electricians, installers and landscapers. All of this coordination takes some time, and if you wait until the busy summer season is in full swing, you might not even get a return phone call from the contractors you re trying to reach. If you get hung up on one piece of the equation, it could derail your entire installation schedule, and have you cooling your heels waiting for one element of your new pool s installation to be done, instead of cooling your whole self in your new pool. Even better, you also might be able to negotiate an early bird discount with some of these contractors if you book them in their off-season. Planning for pool ownership also includes making sure the kiddos have had plenty of time to learn about pool safety, and winter is a great time to do that.
