2 Lesson 1 Numbers Are Everywhere Numbers are an important part of every day. People use them to count or measure. You can even tell time with numbers. How do you write numbers? You can use digits or words. A digit is a symbol used to write a number. How do you know what each number is worth? Each number has a place value. Some of those astronauts stay in space to live in the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS is 250 miles above Earth. When the ISS is finished being built, it will be like a city in outer space.
