10 Mobility Indicator Use this mobility classification system to identify the products that best match the user s mobility level. Each product has been conveniently classified on a mobility scale of 1 to Household Ambulator: Mobility Class / K Level 1 Individual has the ability or potential to traverse flat surfaces at a fixed cadence and a low speed Community Ambulator, Restricted: Mobility Class / K Level 2 Individual has the ability or potential to walk at a slow speed, and traverse low-level environmental barriers, such as stairs or curbs Community Ambulator, Unrestricted: Mobility Class / K Level 3 Individual has the ability or potential to walk with variable cadence, traverse most environmental barriers and meet the mobility demands of most occupational, therapeutic or exercise activities Active Ambulator: Mobility Class / K Level 4 Individual has the ability or potential to exceed basic ambulation skills that include long distance walking and rigorous high impact activities. 8

11 Design Characteristics Six key attributes differentiate the performance of each Freedom Innovations foot product. These important characteristics are clearly identified with the icons seen below. Information Articulating Ankle Articulating ankle designs provide movement at the ankle for an extended range of motion not possible with traditional 'fixed ankle' prosthetic foot products. Plantar and dorsi flexion capabilities provide increased stability on slopes. Socket pressures are reduced, improving the user's overall comfort. Vertical Shock The vertical shock design provides increased comfort and residual limb health by reducing impact to the residual limb, joints and lower back during ambulation. Split Toe For confident mobility over uneven surfaces, the split toe design allows the foot to adapt to varied terrain with controlled inversion/eversion. Multi-Axial Multi-axial function provides superior ground compliance and stability during ambulation over a variety of surfaces. 13 Ensuring Optimal Prosthetic Foot Performance Information To maximize performance and user satisfaction with Freedom Innovations foot products, it is essential that they be ordered according to the appropriate specifications. When the optimal device is effectively fit, users should experience a prosthetic foot that assists them with a natural gait and stands up to high impact forces. Check to be sure that the user s prosthesis will have the build space needed for the prosthetic foot that has been chosen. To provide the most responsive energy storage and return device, clinicians should typically select the tallest foot that can be fit within the given build space. This ensures utilization of the longest carbon fiber spring possible and as a result, the most dynamic response. The patient s impact level is determined by their desired regular daily activities. The following chart will help classify the impact level as Low, Moderate or High. Be careful not to overestimate the patient s activity level, to avoid selecting a product that is too stiff. By matching the patient s impact level with their weight the appropriate foot stiffness category can be identified.
