2 Dear business partners, colleagues, friends, Six years ago, I visited Burkina Faso for the first time. The circumstances of life I witnessed in this country I could not believe were possible in today s world. Immediately after my return, I made the decision, after consulting my family and my employees, to start an association to improve the local living conditions in Burkina Faso. My main objective was to give the people a chance to take their fate into their own hands. My first contact to Burkina Faso was initiated by Father Emanuel. Father Emanuel has lived in Germany for several years and he has spent some of his time in Jettingen-Scheppach. He is taking care of 30 schools in the diocese Kaya in Burkina Faso and was born in the village Gofila which we chose as the location for our project. Our work follows a clear objective: Help the people to help themselves. During the past years, we have improved water and energy supply as well as agriculture and education environments significantly. The greatest improvement of our work is a modern primary school and college with electrical solar power which was officially opened in October This school offers evening courses and will enable us to significantly reduce the rate of illiteracy in the region. Since 2017 we successfully cooperate with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The financial means for this project have increased every year, in the course of the next two years we will invest 450,000 Euro in Burkina Faso. This project has become a matter of our hearts. Our objective is to give the people, in one of the poorest countries of the world, the chance to have a self-determined life. 3 Completed Projects (Region Boussouma) : completion of our first project: construction of six deep wells in Gofila : start of the pilot project Market Garden in Gofila : shipment of a container with donated goods to Burkina Faso : completion of the first construction stage of the primary school in Gofila : extension of the project Market Garden : completion of the second construction stage of the primary school in Gofila : shipment of a container with donated goods to Burkina Faso : completion of the college in Gofila Realisation of the first modern school centre with solar power in the North of Burkina Faso in cooperation with the BMZ. There is a governmental development plan for every region of the country, but they lack the funds to execute their plans. We are working closely with government officials and coordinate our efforts. OUEDRAOGO Rihanata, 2nd Class College in Gofila Due to the distance to the nearest college, my parents didn t allow me to go to secondary school. Thanks to the building of the school centre in Gofila, I can go back to school. I thank Help for Burkina Faso for this opportunity. SAWADOGO S. Chief of Gofila, (Naba Tanga of Gofila) As the head of the village it is a great honour and I am especially proud of the development in my village and the surrounding villages. The whole region Boussouma benefits from the projects of Help for Burkina Faso. They have the full support of the grand chief of the region DIMA of Boussouma. OUEDRAOGO Honorine, 1st Class College in Gofila I am from Nessemtenga. There is a college here, but it is overcrowded. Therefore, I was not able to register for secondary school. Thanks to the construction of the new college in Gofila, I can continue school. Thank you for this chance! SAWADOGO Koudougou, Director Horst Walz College in Gofila Thanks to Help for Burkina Faso. The Horst Walz College in Gofila is the only one in the region with a solar system and IT equipment, such as printers, photocopiers and computers. With the access to electricity we have better conditions on site, students can also learn in the evening and we can offer computer classes and evening school.

8 Travel Report, 3-8 October 2018 A highlight of our project trip in October 2018 was the inauguration ceremony of the school center in Gofila. About 6,000 people from the region and representatives of the government, Governor Somé/Diallo of the region Centre Nord, the Ministry of Energy and a representative of the German Embassy participated in the ceremony. The media including the Burkinabe television reported from the ceremony. In addition to the completed and planned projects, this trip s main purpose was to point out opportunities for the people after they graduate from the school system. Many conversations demonstrated that the easiest way to offer people a professional future is through agriculture. We have decided to recruit an agricultural engineer, educated in Burkina Faso, at our own expense. We want to develop a long-term and sustainable agricultural concept for the region Gofila next year. We will work closely with the University of Agriculture and the government. The regional president of Kaya also promised us his full support for our projects.
