5 Berlin Chamber of Crafts Non-profit organisation under public law central organisation for state authorized self-administration of all Berlin craft companies (compulsory membership for each Berlin craft enterprise) Subsidiarity the state assigns sovereign tasks to the chambers so that they can be handled practically and efficiently while avoiding additional bureaucracy and can be handled democratically legitimized, e.g. Register the craft enterprises, the apprentices, supervision of vocational training, organization of examinations

Practical Training in companies (70-80%) and theoretical learning in a vocational school (20-30%) in addition intercompany-training (craft sector) 2. Training on the basis of nationwide state-recognised occupations (bundesweit anerkannte Berufe) 3. Training contract between the company and the apprentice 4. Apprentice-salary from the company 5. Strict orientation towards the needs of the labour market

17 Plenary Assembly - the Parliament of the Skilled Crafts The plenary assembly is the highest decision-making body of the Berlin Chamber of Skilled Crafts The plenary assembly is elected by all companies of the Berlin Craft Sector (about companies) for 5 years 57 Members: 2/3rd employers (38) and 1/3rd employees (19) - unique in comparison to the industry sector (no employees) 38 employers 19 employees Main Tasks Election of the Board of Management, the Chief Executive and the Managing Director Decision on budget and scale of fees Enact journeymen - and master craftsmen examination regulations
18 Board of Management Board of Management is the central decision-making body in the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Consisting of 9 members, 6 employer- and 3 employees representatives The plenary assembly elects the Board of Management Board of Management 9 members President Vicepresidents & Members 6 employers representatives 3 employees representatives
