It usually takes up to two years to complete one level and up to four years to complete the two levels depending on their complexity; however they can be completed more quickly depending on the ability of the apprentice. Key Features of ApprenticeshipsNI ApprenticeshipsNI is funded by the Department for Employment and Learning, and part financed by the European Social Fund: Are open to all people age in permanent remunerative employment (a minimum of 21 contracted hours per week with one employer, including day release) from day one who have reached the minimum school leaving age, and who meet the entry requirements set out by the sector; Are open to both new and existing employees who meet the entry criteria. Are a series of planned on- and off- the-job training and development activities; Lead to an externally accredited Vocational Competence (VCQ) at Level 2/3. Lead to a Vocational Related (VRQ), where appropriate to the Apprenticeship Framework in question. Build upon the basic general competencies such as Essential Skills, in Application of Number, Communication and ICT, the latter, where appropriate to the Apprenticeship Framework; Are industry-driven and designed to be relevant to the needs of each occupational sector; and Enable apprentices to acquire high level technical, administrative and first line management skills.
