This has led to the improvement in standards of services offered & has also led to more advanced wireless technology for optimal performance even in the mobile environments. This paper gives a brief overview on 4G technology & its system level implication related to technical liabilities. It also presents a brief overview of Indian mobile & wireless communications till now & future impacts & implications which can further facilitate planning & development regarding 4G. Targeted user base & their choice is utmost important while any sort of planning is to be done & still the share of middle class forms a core of Indian learned sociology. Keywords- Services, Network, Users, Quality. 1. Introduction The third generation of mobile communication services is on consistent growth in terms of users of the service. This service was launched in 2001, October. The major features of the service are well fledged with different enhanced multimedia service packages such as speedy internet & viable video talk. Thus, is assumed that it will surely enhance the present livelihood basis of existence from technological & social point of view. This has led to recruitment of advanced wireless systems like 4G (fourth-generation) mobile systems. These systems are better capable on aspects of reliability & service quality enhancement as compared to earlier counterparts like IMT-2000 or 3G. This is also must in terms of standardization to be followed for global acceptance & improvements in QoS & QoE aspects of the associated service from both the perspectives of service provider & user [1]. We present a brief overview of technological aspects along with the tailoring associated with the 4G technology based systems & their capability embedded with a brief outlook on concerned mobile trends. 45

2.. Associated Target The constant demand for more high quality service has led the media communications up to newer heights of quality enhancement which is the major aspect of system capability perception by the users. The features like complete security in IP dependent solutions, ultra broadband internet, advanced multimedia & gaming services etc. are expected from 4G.It is believed 4G will be capable of solving problems that existed with 3G & pre-4g technologies. The 4G based systems are expected to support wireless mobile services along with fixed wireless networks. Moreover it will behave like an integrating entity which will integrate many useful features in to one complete package. These are surely going to alter the present phase by improving & extending mobile communication technology to more number of subscribers. It is estimated that the number of users will reach about 1 billion till 2013 which clarifies the fact that the significance of the technology cannot be underestimated. Moreover it would also deploy advanced modulation techniques like OFDM, MC-CDMA etc. along with networks of modern times the Wireless Adhoc Networks which will further facilitate growth of the mobile communications market & will also lead to an improved Quality of Experience possibly [2]. In more simplistic outlook 4G is all set to replace the 3G headed systems in 2-3 years from now onwards. This will facilitate mobility prone access to wireless information services like data, pictures, videos & many more. It will provide wider bandwidth & greater data rates deploying a common platform for different networks related services. Moreover they will operate in a cooperative fashion with present 2G & 3G networks. This will obviously lead to a new class of services & models defined for better inter-connectivity between different kinds of networking services. The fig.1 below depicts a brief overview of what 4G actually implies. The most important features of 4G network is that it is a multiple technology interaction based platform. The issues like quality constancy are of prime importance during situations like handover, security issues & adaptivity etc. Some important applications of the 4G can be summarised in brief as follows: 1. Virtual management-quick recovery of the network within some minutes which would have been disrupted via, any kind of natural calamity. 2. Distant processing-this works on fundamentals of GPS & geographical information systems in combination to process location based details. 3. Transparent presence-this implies that the user is Omni-present even during off-site availability of him. 4. Tele-education & treatment-it will certainly provide tele-monitoring & tele-talk kind of facilities for betterment in standards of related services. 46

GSM BEYOND 2G BROADCAST UMTS 3G BASED SHORT RANGE NETWORK LEVEL CONTROL CONNECTION LAYER WLAN & BEYOND CELLULAR (4G) MAN (METROPOLITAN) BASED SEVICES UBIQUITOUS Fig.1. 4G network services 3. Technologies Involved in 4G Recent technologies like OFDMA, MC-CDMA, IDMA & Software Defined Radio (SDR) are incorporated as a part of 4G along with already existing technologies. This lead to not only better physical layer performance but also a new degree of freedom is added. This further leads to exploitation of multi-domain radio channel use [3]. Moreover technologies like smart antennas & MIMO also form an important integral part of it which nonetheless enlaces the QoS aspects over all. All this & more leads to better optimization of system resources & also facilitate cross layer based radio link optimization. This clearly suggests that every part & parcel of this sort of technology will lead us to a multi-band & multistandard environment with high speed processing capable enough for better radio access. Handover & access becomes more sophisticated & simpler to handle. Even more the transmissions become more timed & centralized. In all 4G provides better & greater sustainability from both user & manufacturer point of view. 47

4. Indian Perspective & 4G From the view of Indian perspective we need to focus on present demands of the users along with likes & dislikes in order to predict the future of 4G. In recent years any new technological cross-over & new modules have been welcomed by Indian masses as the use of technology in day to day affairs is increasing. The majority of Indian masses now at least possess a mobile phone & everyone has welcomed initiatives like phone banking, phone ticket booking etc. It can be better, if certain enhanced facilities could be provided for nearly the same investment deploying 4G. The recent 3G approach has also been warmly welcomed by a class of Indian society: academicians & students as they believe this will lead to more interactive learning opportunities. The most important of these developments is the huge amount of work being done every year in form of case studies; research etc. at different referred institutions & colleges everywhere in India. Even more the new schemes developed & deployed can be made more useful & user friendly with respect to rural user base in India by deployment of 4G. According to the data as per Broad-Band Policy, 2004, Government of India it has been shown that the estimated growth for broad band subscribers has increased from 3 million in 2005 up to 20 million in 2010 & for internet subscribers from 6 million in 2005 up to 40 million in 2010[4]. Even now the policies framed by government also cover the aspects of QoS provisioning [5- TRAI ACT, 1997]. The major outlook of the governance focusing on rural sector keenly has paved the way for further betterment in existing technologies. Presently, the Indian sub-continent carries out telecommunication activities based on circles of occupation by bandwidth auctioning in order to generate good revenue from this sector. This has also lead to a healthy competition among vendors & service providers both. Moreover this competition has benefitted the common man in entirety as for a cheaper rate one is getting a chance to enjoy good quality services, even more new technologies are being introduced & brought in to the market & are being welcomed enormously. This has lead India to new heights of success in telecommunications after liberalization. More focused fields of interest according to the Broad-Band Policy, 2004 are shown as fig.2. SATELLITE MEDIA TERRESTIAL WIRELESS CABLE TV NETWORK FOCUSSED SECTORS FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER OPTICAL FIBER Fig.2. Indian governance focused sectors of telecommunications. 48

The statistics displayed below depicts the progress & growth for the year 2011 for different telecommunication elements in India as fig.3. Fig.3.Comparative graphical depiction of growth rates for telecom sector fields based on number of phones purchased. The net growth rate for the year 2011 was found to be 38.90% in case of wireless & % for wire-line based coverage. This clearly suggests the fact that new developments are being welcomed by the Indian masses & thus future of 4G is no bar to it. Another important parameter to be reviewed is the tele-density for rural & urban scenarios of Indian subcontinent which signifies the real growth of Tele-communication technology & coverage depicted as fig.4. These features also depict one remarkable point which is that the opportunities are increasing multiple folds in all the scenarios whether it is rural or urban. It clarifies the implication that the present day technology is creating more or less similar impact on any kind of scenario of operation or user base due to reduction in divide between the rural & urban livelihoods in the near time. 49

Fig.4.Comparative depiction of teledensity in India for rural & urban profiles [6]. The comparative profiles as depicted clarify the fact that there are immense opportunities available in the Indian market & this can certainly benefit 4G based developments & deployments. 5. Conclusion The final revelation from the review of 4G from India s perspective shows positive signs for technology deployment from both the vendor & user point of view. It also suggests that the major sectors of industrial growth can benefit a lot from it in a country like India where the rural & urban needs both are to be addressed accordingly. The major outcome of the review is that 4G is the need of hour at present & is all set to replace its fore-counterparts in the very near. Acknowledgments I would like to acknowledge DRC (Departmental Research Committee) at DIT-Dehradun to provide me an opportunity to review the related literature under professional guidance ship of assigned dignitaries & every support provided in relation to it.
