1 PROGRAMME X ECONOMIC FORUM Innovation and Digitization as pillars of the Sustainability of the Spanish Economic Growth Courts of Castilla-La Mancha March 12 th and 13 th of 2018 Chaired by Mr. José Luis Bonet Directed by Mr. Ricardo Martínez Rico y Coordinated by Mr. Tomás Mancha Navarro The world economy has experienced deep changes in the recent years, including globalization and digital revolution. These changes have marked new and important challenges for the business world and for society in general, to which all the derivatives of the crisis have joined. In this context, during its last edition, the IX Economic Forum focused on the analysis of the Spanish transformation, both social and economic, and its effects on companies, business initiatives, work, education, professional training, and also within the world stage. On this occasion, the X Economic Forum will focus on two main aspects that might contribute to Spain, its society and its economic actors to have a solid position in the globalized world. Thus, we understand Innovation and Digitization as pillars of the sustainability of the Spanish economic growth. Indeed, in the recent years our economy and our companies have been shown an extraordinary ability for adaptation and transformation. In a more positive international context, the Spanish economy has shown a strong growth during This has allowed the Spanish GDP to led the economic growth within the large developed countries of the OECD, with rates above 3% GDP for the third consecutive year. This growth is based both on the strength of domestic demand and on the positive contribution of the external sector, where services are playing a role which is increasingly relevant; This highlights the competitiveness of our economy. However, the continuation of the economic growth in the medium and long term is linked to the debate of jointly advancing competitiveness and productivity. And that's where the impulse to innovation and digitalization has to play a relevant role. With this objective in mind, this meeting raises three key questions: what digital world we live in and how we want to continue advancing; how the various economic sectors are reacting to the digital transformation process we are experiencing; and, finally, how to move forward to achieve an economy and an innovative society from the perspective of digitalization.

2 How the society as a whole is reacting to these important global changes, and in particular the digital revolution, will be emphasized on the opening and closing conference. The first block will start with the analysis of the functioning and the implications that blockchain technology and fintech may have, including whether or not it is possible to live in a world with no coins or notes, and where our identity is reduced to a simple algorithm. Then we will discuss some of the implications of the new and extraordinary resource the Big Data is, and its functioning of the economy and the ability it has to transform industrial processes or services. The current and future role of the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence will also be highlighted. Closing this segment, the verification needed in any economic transaction leads us to the important issue of cybersecurity. The impact that the digital transformation has on industry and services will occupy the second block of interest of the Forum, given that it directly affects the possibility of improving the productivity and competitiveness of both activities. Due to its relevance and disruptive nature, the method of case study will be used to consider the role of the so-called collaborative economy. Finally, the third block will begin by considering a clear example of the digital transformation is the one that has experienced the media sector, an issue which will be more examined in detail. Furthermore, the role of public policies and successful international experiences will be taken into account. This could determine if, in the case of Spain, the same conditions could be replicated, in order to achieve positive results in the implementation of a digital economy and an innovative digital society. The purpose is, once again in this X edition, to expand the traditional analysis that is usually made of the Spanish economy, extending it to the study of the bases on which the transformation of the society is based. It is also intended to conduct a prospecting exercise. To this end, the analysis and initiatives from educational fields and public policies will be combined with practical business experience through the participation of leading companies and institutions in their sectors. We will thus count on the participation of a wide range of profiles that can respond to the multidimensional approach of the analysed issue: senior executives of leading companies in their sectors and innovators, start-ups, academics, public policy makers, both national and international and of different generations too.
