2 The Advanced Naval Technology Exercise, or ANTX, is an event created by NUWC Division Newport to demonstrate future Navy technologies in action today The event provides a collaborative and low-risk environment for engineers and scientists to test their technologies at the research and development level before their technologies become militarized and integrated at the operational level. This is the fourth year of ANTX. We continue to grow the event and this year we have partnered with SENEDIA to hold SENEDIA s Defense Innovation Days and ANTX in the same week. Our Goal: Cast a wide net for technology Lower the barrier of entry for non-traditional developers to the defense market and encourage innovation 4

6 Third Annual Collaborative Exercise ANTX 2017 Theme: Battlespace Preparation in a Contested Environment Anti-Access Surveillance 1) Co-hosted with Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division 2) Introduced mission planning to the exercises, revolving around ANTX Island 3) Over 500 attendees over the 2-day event 4) Approximately 60 unmanned vehicles were exercised air, surface, undersea, and ground UxVs Clandestine collection, fusion, and transmission of data; coordination between autonomous platforms and their operators. 6

11 Satellite in-water location Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) is providing its Gulf of Mexico (GOM) location as a satellite operating venue. Participants may conduct exercises at CNMOC s in-water operating area near Stennis Space Center, MS, versus conducting in-water exercises in Newport, RI at the Narragansett Bay Test Facility (NBTF). 12 ANTX 2018 Theme Human-Machine Optimization and Integrated Targeting in Maritime Environments Key tasks include identifying science and technologies that can enable or achieve the following: 1) Coordinated (across one or more undersea assets) detection, localization, tracking, and/or targeting in a littoral environment 2) Human trust in machines to support tactical and operational decision needs 3) Coordinated (across one or more assets) wide-area persistent search Other key interest areas include: 1) Technologies for coordination of command and control (C2) of group collaboration 2) Conducting live demonstrations of the tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) that are used in the collection, storage, and transmission of collected information 12

16 Why Participate? Opportunity to demonstrate technology in an operational relevant scenario. Significant exposure of technology to Navy Leadership. Feedback loop from requirements community to company R&D investment decisions. All costs for Navy Warfare Center range, pier, and boat services for selected participants will be covered by the Navy. 16

17 ANTX Success Stories At ANTX 2017, Power Docks demonstrated its Autonomous Floating Micro-Grid Platform solarpowered charging station for autonomous recharging of unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned underwater vehicles, and unmanned surface vehicles. Power Docks continued to pick up steam following ANTX 2017 and soon was named as one of Rhode Island s 50 on Fire by Rhode Island Inno and was nominated for Massachusetts 2017 Manufacturer of the Year for their contributions to marine sustainability and innovation. Power Docks launched their innovative business that uses solar energy to store, generate, and disperse renewable solar energy to marine vessels wirelessly. This is done with solar arrays in marinas in Fall River and Newport. 17

18 Rapid prototyping is a big component of ANTX. At last year s event, NUWC research engineers partnered with Riptide Autonomous Solutions to successfully test a proton exchange membrane fuel cellpowered unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). ANTX Success Stories At ANTX 2017, the same NUWC research engineers joined with another industry partner and will be demonstrating another technology at ANTX 2018 involving UUVs and hydrophones. If we didn t meet up with Riptide at ANTX, we wouldn t be demonstrating this year. We wouldn t have used a micro UUV, said Dr. Lou Carreiro of NUWC Newport. We had two parties interested in working together to advance the technology and we re doing it now. 18
