7 Recent Accomplishments in National News Calit2 s ResCUE project was featured on the NBC Today Show special marking the fiveyear anniversary of Sept. 11th. CNN Reporter Christopher Lawrence went live from Calit2 for the American Morning news program following a front page story on HIPerWall in LA Times. In the wake of the Minneapolis bridge collapse, reporters sought the expertise of researcher Maria Feng, known as the Bridge Doctor. NBC Nightly News featured Feng and her team at work in their Calit2 lab. An international audience tuned in to Univision Network correspondent Magaly Ortiz s report about the HIPerWall.
8 Multi-Investigator/Discipline Grant & Contract Proposals Since January 2004 Calit2 has submitted 92 grant proposals of its own (and has been a participant or affiliate in 85 others.). Submission breakdown of the 92 Calit2 proposals: 40% included faculty from more than one department 53% included more than one UCI faculty member 26% were funded UCI Schools with faculty in Calit2-led proposals include: Arts, Biological Sciences, Dept. of Education, Engineering, ICS, Physical Sciences, Medicine, Social Ecology and Social Sciences UCI faculty leads represent 20 different departments on campus

Procedures Each center has its own techniques, procedures, etc. Staff specialists (professionals) Centers may share specialists or have their own. Customers Centers might share customers or have their own.
15 Common Infrastructure Building facilities Interface to the outside world, building support, etc. Equipment facilities Tools, facilities, instrumentation, etc. Lab/office space Common shared lab space available, researchers/students office space available Multi-disciplinary proposal Staff-assisted grant proposal writing and submission IT support Software, communications, networking, databases, servers, etc. Admin support Invoicing, accounting, paperwork, data, events, PR, etc. Policies, training, recharge/billing User issues, documentation, billing, keys, forms, etc. Materiel Supplies, purchasing, inventory control, warehousing, etc. Safety, EH&S, etc. Waste management, cleaning, etc.
16 Facilitating Interaction Calit2 will clarify and republish its space allocation policies and procedures. UCI will change how overhead is collected for building payments, so users of Calit2 facilities will not be penalized.
