Taking the Hop, Skip and Jump from Offshore Access New W2W Industry Guidance ALL-ENERGY GLASGOW (6-7 May 2015) Hamish Holt DNV GL Aberdeen SAFER, SMARTER, GREENER
Introduction The need to conduct offshore marine transfers is growing Walk to Work (W2W) covers offshore gangway transfers W2W can take many forms from use of workboats to large semi-subs There are many aspects that need to be considered Various parties need to work closely together Key stakeholders are the offshore workforce and regulators This paper presents a newly released industry guidance on W2W 2
W2W Joint Industry Project (JIP) Approach: Industry guidance developed for industry by industry through a JIP. Aim: To develop guidance to help the offshore wind and oil & gas industries (and their supply chains and regulators) understand and implement an inherently safe, cost-effective W2W solution. Broad involvement: Ship Developers Babcock Damen Shipyards Vroon Group Wagenborg Offshore Regulators (Invited Guests) HSE MCA NMA O&G BP Maersk Oil Nexen Perenco Shell Transfer Systems Ampelmann Operations UpTime Marine Aluminium Offshore Wind Siem Offshore Statkraft Statoil 3
W2W Guidance Basis Walk to Work (W2W) is personnel transfers between a vessel and an offshore facility via a gangway system. The guidance does not address personnel transferring through jumping or being lifted to/from the offshore facility by crane or robotic arm. The guidance will be a useful reference for all marine transfer approaches. 4

W2W Guidance Requirement Definition Section 2 Solution Selection Section 3 Solution Delivery Section 4 Operation Section 5 (60 pages plus 40 pages of annexes) 14
Other Aspects To Be Considered (not exhaustive) Landing station locations, requirements and installation costs Regulatory requirements (e.g. HSE, Flag, Class, etc.) H, S & E management for facility and W2W operations Rescue and recovery provision during W2W transfers Contingency management (e.g. W2W unavailability) Transfer of tools, goods, luggage, provisions, etc. Vessel size, accommodation, transit and trans-field speed, etc. 15
Other Aspects To Be Considered (not exhaustive) Multi-role use of vessel with implications between activities Gangway certification requirements Setting expectations and demonstrating performance Procedures, induction material, etc. Time to complete a transfer operation Security control Personnel movement management 16
Concluding Remarks W2W provides opportunities for new and existing offshore facilities W2W use is expanding across offshore wind and O&G New purpose built vessels and gangway systems are available W2W experience is growing with cross-industry learning Key to successful: Understand the subject area Clearly define requirements Think integrated solution (not individual components) Get workforce and regulator buy-in No accidents The W2W Guidance will help in the implementation of safe and efficient personnel transfers between a vessel and offshore facilities 17
