Education National Institute of Technology, Calicut, Kerala, India Ph.D Electronics & Communication Engineering Area of Work: Pattern Recognition, Face Pose Estimation Expected Completion: December 2016 Summary of work: Analysis of Different Head Pose Estimation Methods Head pose estimation methods try to identify/classify the position and orientation of human faces present in an image. This work studies existing techniques in pose classification problem and proposes new methods of pose classification based on image similarity measurements and clustered two layer architecture. We also proposed an application - Driver Distraction Monitoring - for pose estimation. This project aims to develop a real time machine vision system which will monitor the distractions of a driver based on cues derived from his/her pose information over a period of time, eye tracking and background monitoring inside the vehicle. 5 CGPA: 7.71 out of 10 Thesis: Evaluation of Different Line Detection Algorithms in SONAR Images This work completed from Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory(NPOL), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Thrikkakkara, Cochin, Kerala, India. The proposed work mainly aims the detection of Lines from SONAR images. The normalization and image enhancement are some pre-processing techniques for noise removal before the line detection. Knowledge about lines of a SONAR image is useful in the case of target parameter extraction. The lines will give the parameters like speed, position, path of the target. Mid-Point Hough Transform algorithm is a new proposed Hough Transform algorithm in this work; which is a modification of Hough Transform based on the geometric properties of parallel lines and different Randomized Hough Transform algorithms. This work also aims to evaluate the performance of different line detection algorithms based on the number of transactions from image space to parameter space, execution time and accuracy. Mini Project: Visual Attention Based Image Cropping Many images contain salient regions that are surrounded by too much uninteresting background material and are not as enlightening as a sensibly cropped version. The choice of the best picture window both at capture time and during subsequent processing are normally subjective and a wholly manual task. Huge quantities of digital images and video are being created which are not informative simply because the interesting parts are not immediately apparent to a human observer. This may be because there is an overwhelming amount of distracting background material or because the images are being viewed on a small display. In either case there is a need to identify those regions in an image which are salient and to reshape the image for maximum impact. It has the ability to walk forward, backward and turn to sides. The design consists of 12 stepper motors to control the leg movements - a pair for each leg. PIC 16F877 is the main controller used for coordinating its actions. This controller generates the control signal responsible for the leg movements, sensor feedback. PIC16F84 is used for generating driving signals for the stepper motors based on the control signals by PIC16F877. Mini Project: Digital Speedometer

6 Digital Speedometer is designed for the purpose of numerically displaying the speed of a vehicle in km/hr. Opto-coupling method is incorporated in our circuit contrary to the ordinary magnetic coupling method.
