6 ANNEXURE - I Ph.D Research Work Pumped storage hydro electric plants are attractive in competitive power industry because of their operational flexibility and ability to provide rapid response to changes in system loading or spot price of electricity. This work analyzes the dynamic self-scheduling strategy that considers simultaneously the expected profit and risk while participating in multi-commodity electricity market. Evolutionary Tri-state Particle Swarm Optimization (ETPSO) based approach is proposed and used to solve the self-scheduling problem of actual utilities. The impact of pumped storage energy trading on the overall social welfare of power market is also investigated. Ongoing Research Activities Microgrid Protection: Investigation of digital protection schemes for DC and Hybrid microgrids using signal processing techniques. Industrial partner: Maxim Integrated India Ltd. and 1 Ph.D Scholar involved. Microgrid Energy Management and Control: Developing efficient energy management and addressing the control issues of DC and Hybrid microgrids. Team: 2 Ph.D Scholars involved. Smart Grid Application of wireless and information technology possibilities in towards sustainable smart grid. Research partners: Amrita WMA, IIT Kanpur, Maxim Integrated India Ltd, and 1 Ph.D Scholar involved. An Indo-EU joint Project: Stabiliz-E ongoing.
