8.20 Subsea Engineer Procure and Fabricate, (EPF) Service Offering In the current Oil and Gas market, three of the key drivers for operators are: Efficient and timely delivery of products and services Value for money Reduction of risk John Butler Business Acquisition Manager Wood Group All of the above should be achieved whilst maintaining the highest levels of safety. Through our EPF service offering Wood Group can offer all of the above. Wood Group has been developing a standardised suite of specifications and designs for subsea structures, components and ancillary equipment. However, in order to realise true value to our customers, Wood Group can now offer a full scope solution from specification to delivery installation. We are solution driven and have the ability to integrate components regardless of vendor to achieve an optimal solution. A key differentiator for Wood Group in this regard is our in-house fabrication facility. Through this capability we have enabled early engagement and collaboration between design and fabrication which is typically hindered by contractual barriers. The Wood Group EPF service offering provides seamless engagement between design and fabrication allowing increased confidence in cost and schedule whilst providing a single point of contact for delivery and reducing the number of interface for the Operator. Wood Group would like to take the opportunity to present this service offering at the Subsea Springboard demonstrating potential for costs savings and reduction of risk whilst maintaining quality and safety in delivery. John is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a Fellow of the IMarEST. Having started his career in the Merchant Navy, John worked on-board chemical tankers as a marine engineer. In 2001, John graduated from the Robert Gordon University with an Honours Degree in Engineering and joined Technip as a project engineer. He moved to MCS in 2008 as project manager before the company became part of Wood Group. John now holds the role of business acquisition manager within Wood Group s subsea service line, focused on identifying future projects and business development opportunities. This includes developing new capabilities within the North Sea region, such as Wood Group s subsea engineering, procurement and fabrication (EPF) offering.

8:50 Clearing Blockages in Subsea Pipelines, Manifolds and Trees Pipetech are industrial pipe and process system cleaning specialists with a long heritage in oil and gas platform topsides, vessels and onshore industrial services such as refineries, power stations and petrochemicals. The company has now developed a new and unique solution to address the costly issue of scale and wax blockages in subsea pipelines, manifolds and trees. The system, known as the Deep Water Cleaning System (DWCS) was designed and built at the request of a client who was experiencing a difficult blockage on a subsea manifold. Eric Doyle Managing Director Pipetech Pipetech took their years of heritage and specialism in the industrial process system cleaning field and distilled it into a new and unique subsea solution. The client had previously tried several traditional measures such as chemicals and pigging over several months to no avail. DWCS was used to great effect and cleared the blockage quickly and efficiently where the other techniques had failed. More recently, Pipetech have used the DWCS system to remove blockages on a subsea pipeline. DWCS uses high pressure water, specially designed nozzles and a unique delivery system to allow the remote cleaning operation to take place at the source of the issue. Pipetech are now engineering improvements and upgrades to make the DWCS even more effective in the global subsea environment. Eric started his career in oil and gas in 1990 in Electrical Engineering, spending 10 years offshore in Drilling then moving onshore into senior roles within Drilling, Subsea, Inspection and Asset Integrity. For the last 10 years, Eric has been working with SMEs and Large organisations in General Management roles as VP, MD and Executive Board roles. In his current role as Managing Director of Pipetech, Eric leads a strong team with clear focus on industrial process system cleaning. Pipetech are spearheading a significant change in this area of the market and are developing new technology and methods to ensure asset owners get the most from their process systems.
09:05 LinerBridge A polymer pipeline connector to eliminate CRA in polymer lined fabrication 51% of all pipeline failures are a result of internal corrosion, with 7 years the typical life expectancy of an unlined water injection pipeline according to a JIP completed by North Sea operators. Liam Macintyre Managing Director Swagelining Swagelining has developed the world s first polymer pipeline connector for fabrication of polymer lined pipelines. The LinerBridge connector, as part of Swagelining s integrated lining system, is qualified for a 50-year design life, offering pipeline owners substantially greater certainty in long term pipeline ownership, with the most cost-effective life cycle cost. The LinerBridge connector, which can only be supplied by Swagelining, removes the need for costly CRA welding from corrosion resistant pipelines. LinerBridge offers a step-change in the application of polymer lines, and is suitable for onshore and offshore use. When used in reel-lay the LinerBridge connector enables EPCI cost reduction of 35% over a CRA mechanically lined pipeline using traditional CRA clad connectors. LinerBridge uses robust and proven electrofusion welding technology adapted from the onshore utilities gas industry to provide a continuous polymer corrosion barrier from pipeline end to end. The carbon steel pipeline can then be safely welded over the top of the polymer connector. Qualification work has been completed to develop the LinerBridge to TRL 5 (Technology Readiness Level 5) in-line with DNV and API guidelines. This robust qualification work covers a connector size range of 8-16 and includes hydrostatic pressure testing up to 380 bar and cyclic pressure testing of 1,000 cycles from0-250 bar. To achieve qualified status for a 50-year design life, accelerated age testing has been successfully completed with a major Norwegian operator. LinerBridge have been installed into a pipeline lead string and reeled onto the Seven Oceans pipelay vessel and then subjected to successful full destructive testing. Major operators including Total, Shell and Statoil have been involved in the extensive qualification programme. Liam has broad experience within the Oil & Gas industry, having worked in a consultancy design house and subsea EPCI contractor, holding various positions in Engineering, Project Management and Business Development. Liam is an Incorporated Engineer having graduated from Heriot Watt University in Mechanical Engineering. With a background in flexible pipe systems he has a deep understanding of the benefits of polymer lined systems and the design challenges that require to be addressed to provide robust long-term pipeline integrity. Through his global EPCI contractor experience, Liam understands well the current technical and commercial challenges of the Oil & Gas Industry and is well placed to expand Swagelining s service offering, through its front-end technology development, into new products offering clients additional value.
09:20 ROAMES Roames is a Virtual World Asset Management System that is primarily designed for asset managers to remotely investigate and monitor the condition of their infrastructure. Therefore, Roames is designed in cooperation with asset owners and engineers to ensure the tool meets their needs. The final product of Roames, the visualised asset condition, as well as potential risk areas in infrastructure, is delivered in 3D through Roames World. Mike Liddell Director Construction Support & Positioning Services UK Fugro Survey Ltd These capabilities have been developed into three services available to Fugro; Drive (cloud storage and processing interface), Compute (processing and modelling of survey data) and Insight (asset integrity information derived from acquired data). In cooperation with asset managers and Fugro survey specialists, the services are tailored to meet short and long term operational needs. By combining current processing steps in one automated chain, the number of manual tasks can be highly reduced improving productivity of Fugro teams. In addition, instant cloud based reporting and visualisation decreases the delivery time of processed data to clients. This actionable information can then be immediately utilised in the asset management process. Mike is a Survey graduate of Otago University, New Zealand. He started working offshore in 1997 with Svitzer Limited as a Hydrographic Surveyor. In 200,3 we joined Fugro in Aberdeen where he was Survey Processing and Reporting Manager and in 2008 he became Chief Surveyor In 2014, he was appointed Director Construction Support and Positioning Services at Fugro in the UK and become a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. In 2015, he was elected Chairman of the IMCA Survey Division Management Committee, a position he still holds.
09:35 UWVC&MPI UWCV&MPI, Underwater Close Visual and Magnetic Particle Inspection is a new look at existing inspection techniques and technology. Firstly, the basic concept is to obtain high quality images of both CVI and MPI inspections thereby improving data acquisition while reducing overall DSV deployment time. A common criticism of subsea MPI even in 2017 is that it does not produce a permanent record, however UWCV&MPI does in both UV and colour formats. David Metcalfe Manager BPS Secondly, subsea image quality is maximised by utilising minimal artificial lighting levels and standoff distances thereby expanding the operational window for existing techniques in higher ambient lighting levels and turbid conditions. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, with UWCV&MPI the point of assessment is moved from the subsea environment to topside, allowing full engineering appraisal as the inspection progresses on a live time basis and since all is captured in digital format, it is available for review at any time at any location. This improvement in data capture in terms of both quality and efficiency will improve offshore subsea inspection and enhance asset integrity through more assured and clearly definable results for both the O&G and Renewables Sectors. Risk, providing accurate and quantifiable data from MPI inspection will reduce the risk factors associated with offshore operations and as other OGP members see the positive benefits of this, it will no doubt become a requirement by underwrites such as Lloyds, ABS and DNV etc. Furthermore, the cost of development and deployment is insignificant in comparison to failure of an offshore structure which could have been prevented by, early detection using this technique. Therefore, Safety and Reliability Standards Offshore can be raised in a very practical way with UWCV&MPI. In 1975, I joined the Royal Navy as an ordinary seaman at the age of 16 having signed on at 14. In 1980, I began work as a steel fabricator and welder in Liverpool while pursuing my interests in diving. In 1984, I joined the RNR as a Diver and was able to pursue my chosen career further while continuing to work in general fabrication. In the mid 1980 s because my academic levels were low I went to night school to improve my basic education. In the late 1980 s I was able start my HSE Diving Certificates for work offshore. In 2002, I started looking at the possibility of becoming a Diving Supervisor & Inspection Co-ordinator and eventually graduated from Cranfield University with an MSc in Offshore Technology. Now I continue my education thorough CPD. I have always been interested in my work and development of new ideas. I have worked in the subsea sector for over thirty years and believe in the future of Diving as well as ROV s, AUV s and other
delivery systems. While mechanical systems are necessary for deep water O&G development, the new era of offshore wind is within the diving range where divers have a lot to offer. 09:50 SCAR Seabed System Ecosse Subsea System s (ESS s) SCAR Seabed System is a patented and award-winning solution for seabed clearance, trenching and backfilling operations saw the system s first contract award clearing 67km of boulders from a pipeline route west of Shetland. Since then the system has operated predominantly in the Renewables and Interconnector markets having cleared, trenched and backfilled over 1200km s of cable routes on over 9 million square metres of seabed. This extensive track record places ESS in an excellent position to provide seabed clearance and trenching services for flexible flowlines and umbilical s in the Oil and Gas sector. David Hunt Project Manager Ecosse Subsea Systems The system is based around ESS s philosophy of safe, simple and robust. There are limited moving part, no hydraulics and electrics so the system is ideally suited for challenging environments of high currents, boulder fields, sand waves and arduous seabed conditions. Design features in the system result in vast reductions in mechanical downtime and increased operational uptime compared to other market solutions. In Q4, 2017, the SCAR Seabed System will be complemented by SCARJet, a new and innovative jetting tool. This jet trencher is also launched over the stern of a vessel and is suitable for shallow water, high energy environments including beach approaches and has the ability to be reconfigured for deep water operations. ESS has established itself as a specialist seabed conditioning contractor with a focus on providing cost effective seabed clearance, trenching and backfilling solutions. Relationships with the Scottish Fisheries Federation and Marine Scotland has enabled considerations and views of key stakeholders to be built into the design of the SCAR suite of tools. David Hunt joined Ecosse Subsea Systems Ltd (ESS) full time in December 2016 having spent his last 5 years at Bibby Offshore Ltd managing the majority of their flexible pipe-lay projects. After graduating from Aberdeen University in 2004, with a Mechanical Engineering degree, David started his career at Stolt Offshore spending 6 years offshore as a Field Engineer allowing him to gain extensive experience not only in the North Sea but Africa and Brazil. David is a Chartered Engineer with IMechE and a full member of the Association for Project Management. Keen to implement new, fresh project management ideas, as well as tried and tested process, he is currently responsible for ESS s largest lump sum renewables project. His experience in
vessel based projects bolsters Ecosse Subsea Systems Ltd current growth strategy and brings a wealth of knowhow and experience in to the company. 10:05 A-EYE, Retrofit Subsea Production Surveillance The problem: Many subsea wells are commingled at subsea manifolds or pipeline taps. Well testing can be disruptive and expensive, MPFM is complex, difficult and expensive. Exnics are developing a new and novel production surveillance system (patent pending). Stuart Ellison Founder Exnics By shining a Laser Doppler Interferometer at the surface of a pipe, we are able to detect minute optical variances (nanometers of Doppler shift). These optical variances are due to the circumferential natural frequencies of the pipe membrane being excited by the kinetic energy of the conveyed fluid. We measure 48,000 samples per second (over 4 billion samples per day) and can measure surface variances down to 2 nanometers per second (1/billionth of a mph). We then feed this signal through several layers of algorithms and by doing so we can empirically measure flow characteristics such a kinetic energy, density, compressibility, flow regime. By combining this with gas chromatograph characteristics of the reservoir fluid we can also determine pressure and temperature. All of this happens at the instrument node, a method known as edge analytics in order to dramatically reduce the bandwidth of data that must be broadcast. All of this achieved with a single sensor, which is no intrusive, non-invasive and doesn t even contact the flowline. Exnics have tested the system in our lab and can demonstrate the ability to measure two phase flow parameters within a pipe from across a room. The system is significantly less expensive (1/10 th ) than typical subsea multiphase flow meters. It consumes less than 10 watts of power and can be retrofit very easily. This is the most advanced technology Exnics will disclose to the industry this year. Stuart has over a decade of experience working in R&D for the subsea industry and has an excellent track record of developing and qualifying new technologies including wellheads, running tools, connectors and BOP systems. Stuart is the named inventor on over a dozen patents relating to subsea products. Stuart started Exnics in 2013 with the intention of developing a number of compact technologies that could be brought to market quickly and have a high impact on project economics.
