6 Background Motivation Context: Digitising EU Industry The purpose of this Communication is to reinforce the EU's competitiveness in digital technologies and to ensure that every industry in Europe, in whichever sector, wherever situated, and no matter of what size can fully benefit from digital innovations. Facilitated by a dynamic framework for coordination and experience sharing between public and private initiatives at EU, national and regional level, the proposed actions are expected to mobilise close to 50 B of public and private investment in the next 5 years, explore and adapt when needed the legislative framework and reinforce coordination of efforts on skills and quality jobs in the digital age. 18/04/2018 6
