2 Course Presenter s Biography Giandomenico Nollo Giandomenico Nollo received the degree in Physics from the University of Trento, Italy and PhD in Physiology at University of Turin, Italy. He is fellow researcher at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento and working at BIOtech laboratories. Since 2012, he is responsible of the Healthcare Research and Innovation Program of Provincia Autonoma di Trento, pursued at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, in collaboration with local health trust. His research interests are in the application of frontier technologies for health, they include monitoring of human biosignals and modelling of physiological systems with particular regards to cardiovascular and brain systems. Applicative research and innovation has addressed towards e-health applications and Health Technology Assessment. He has been responsible of several research projects in biomedical sciences and biomedical technologies for the University of Trento and member of the steering committee of clinical and preclinical research projects at the local health trust. Scientific community and social activity. He is co-author of more than 170 papers on books and international peer review journals and international conference proceedings. He serves as reviewer for a number of international journal in the field of Biomedical Engineering and Medicine and associate editor of international conferences. He was organizer and chair of National conferences and International workshops. He has been co-founder of the Italian Society for Health Technology Assessment (SIHTA) and member of the steering committee. Member of the steering committee of the European Study Group of Cardiovascular Oscillations (ESGCO) and member of the Italian Society. Elisa Morganti Elisa Morganti is working as Project Manager in the Healthcare Research and Innovation group, a collaboration between Fondazione Bruno Kessler, the local healthcare trust and the Province of Trento. She obtained her PhD in Information and Telecommunication at the University of Trento in From 2009 to 2012, she worked as researcher in the BioMEMS group of FBK, with expertise in design, modelling and characterization of microfluidic systems, microfabrication and systems integration. Emanuele Torri Emanuele Torri, is a Medical Doctor. He works in the Department of Health and Social Policies of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Councillorship for Health and Social policies. His fields of research include: healthcare and social services planning and organization, quality improvement and clinical governance, chronic and complex care, empowerment technologies, outcomes assessment. 3 Daniele Fontanelli Daniele Fontanelli is assistant professor at the University of Trento in the department of Industrial Engineering. His research interests include real-time control and estimation, localization algorithms, resource aware control and clock synchronization algorithms, wheeled mobile robots control and service robotics for elderly. He received the M.S. degree in Information Engineering in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in Automation, Robotics and Bioengineering in 2006, both from the University of Pisa, Italy. Giuseppe Conti Giuseppe Conti, is CTO and EU project manager at Trilogis Srl. He has a Master s degree in Civil Engineering (cum laude) and a PhD in computer sciencerelated disciplines from the faculty of Engineering of the University of Strathclyde (UK). He has a 12+ yrs experience in International RTD projects (funded by NATO or EC in the FP5, FP6, FP7, ICT-PSP, H2020 programs) in the domains of interactive enterprise systems, service oriented architectures, geographical web services, mobile applications, location-based services and smart city services. Luca Faes Luca Faes is researcher at the Bruno Kessler Foundation and the Interdepartmental Center for Biotechnologies (BIOtech) of the University of Trento. Luca Faes received an M.S. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, in 1998, and a Ph.D. degree in electronic devices from the University of Trento, Italy, in His research activity is focused on the development of methods for time series analysis and system modeling, with applications to cardiovascular neuroscience, cardiac arrhythmias, brain connectivity and physiological networks. Luca Mion Luca Mion, PhD is Innovation to Market Officer at HIT - Hub Innovazione Trentino, and Chairman of the Horizon 2020 Independent Investment Expert Group at the European Commission - Directorate General for Research and Innovation. He has an extensive experience in research, innovation and technology transfer, acting as expert for European authorities and as member of steering committees of European technology platforms, international associations and national technology clusters. Ilaria Simonelli Ilaria Simonelli is Health Sociologist at APSS (Trentino Local Health Trust) where she works for the development of community projects. Ilaria is also Coordinator of the International Task Force on Health Promotion for and with Children and Adolescents of the Health Promoting Hospitals (HPH) Network; Member and Co- Founder of the Think and Action Tank on Children s Rights; Expert on the subject and Assistant Professor at the Bologna University in the area of Social services and Integration; Member of the Scientific Committee of the HPH International Network. 4 Mariolino De Cecco Mariolino De Cecco Ph.D., is associate Professor at the department of industrial engineering - University of Trento, Professor of Mechanical and Thermal Measurements and Robotics Perception and Action and Head of the MIRo (Measurement, Instrumentation and Robotics) laboratory. His research interests are in the field of measurement, robotics and space. Simona Anzivino Simona Anzivino works for the Healthcare Research and Innovation Program (IRCS Group FBK) of Provincia Autonoma di Trento, pursued at Fondazione Bruno Kessler of Trento (Italy). For IRCS, she conducts an activity of technological interface between biomedical companies and local Healthcare Trust for the development of clinical innovation and of local business she received the Master s Degree in Biomedical Engineering at University of Bologna in Nicola Pace Nicola Pace is a researcher at the University of Trento, Department of Industrial Engineering. He received his Master Degree in Physics and Biomedical Technologies in 2008 at the University of Trento. In 2013, he became Medical Physics Expert at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He develops several courses for healthcare professionals, including courses on clinical research methodologies, systematic reviews of literature, and Health Technology Assessment. Matteo Zanetti Matteo Zanetti received the master degree in Mechatronic Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy. He is currently attending the first year of the Doctoral School in Materials, Mechatronics and Systems Engineering of Trento. Research. His field of research is in the measurement systems for assistive technology. In particular, he deals with integrated measures of stress, motion capture and environmental parameters in subjects with cognitive and/or motor impairment. The final goal of his project is the customization of assistive solutions for the specific user. Maurizio Caon Maurizio Caon is lecturer and researcher at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland working in the domain of Human-Computer Interaction. He holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and Telecommunication Engineering issued by the University of Perugia (Italy) and received his doctorate from the University of Bedfordshire (UK). 5 Claudio Eccher Claudio Eccher works at FBK in Trento as senior researcher in the field of Electronic Health Records, Personal Health records, guideline-based Decision support Systems. He obtained the PhD in Information and Communication Technologies from the University of Trento in His areas of interest are knowledge representation in medicine (ontologies), knowledge-based models and applications for supporting healthcare professionals and patients in carrying out evidence-based cost/effective care. Ettore Turra Ettore Turra is Director of Management Systems at the Local Health Trust of region Trentino, Italy. He has more than 10 years experience in the General management of one of the largest Italian public healthcare delivery organizations. Manager of increasingly complex organizations, processes and projects, is competences include: Strategic Planning, Organization and process quality, Budgeting and management control, Human resources, Project portfolio, Performance management and competencies, Organizational change projects, Analytics and Data Integration, I.T. and ehealth development projects, IT governance and planning. Nicola Conci Nicola Conci received his PhD degree from the international ICT Doctoral School of Trento, Italy, in He is currently assistant professor at the Department of Information Engineering at the same university, where he teaches the courses of Computer Vision and Multimedia Networking. In 2012 he co-founded Xtensa, a startup of the University of Trento, which goal is to develop effective and affordable assistive tools. His research interests are in the field of video analysis for monitoring and surveillance applications and man machine interfaces using gesture recognition and gaze tracking. 6 Syllabus About this course This course will provide you a vision about the complexity of smart health from a smart city perspective. The primary focus of a smart city in an aging society should be the prevention of frailty and disability by developing innovative models supported by high-tech services and solutions towards the overarching goal of smart healthy communities. Furthermore, care in a smart city should be delivered as much as possible in territorial settings reducing access to hospital and time from diagnosis to care. Technology is one of the enablers for this challenge. Health Technologies are indeed fundamental in the overall cycle of our life and are called to play an continually increaing role. However, Innovative technologies per se do not suffice to deal with healthcare needs and demand, as introduction of innovation should take into account sustainability and impact on the existing scenery. In other words, a reliable innovation should determine a real social innovation. This course will focus on the basic concepts of health and health technologies together with the ethical and juridical issues to be take into account in the development of pervasive technologies for healthcare.
