1 MARTIN HUNT, DIRECTOR FOR INVENTION FOR INNOVATION (i4i) PROGRAMME, NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH RESEARCH Martin is Programme Director for i4i, a translational funding programme. i4i aims to support and advance the research and development of innovative healthcare technologies and their translation into the clinical environment for the benefit of patients. Martin is also a member of the NIHR Strategy Board. Martin has over 30 years experience in the medtech industry in large multi-nationals, start-ups and public companies. His previous roles include being CEO of biomaterials company Tissue Science Laboratories which he took from start-up, through angel capital and a listing on London s AiM market to trade sale to Covidien in May 2008 for $85m. He currently has a portfolio of Chairman and non-executive director roles in both the private and public sector. CLARE WOODS, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH RESEARCH As Business Development Manager for the NIHR, Clare runs the signposting service - connecting the life sciences industry with NIHR clinical infrastructure and academic investigators. She has had previous roles with tech startups including for an elderly care app and currently volunteers with One HealthTech, an organisation that supports women and people from diverse backgrounds in the HealthTech industry. Clare studied biology and tropical disease at The University of Liverpool.

2 SARAH COOPER, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (COMMERCIAL), NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH RESEARCH CLINICAL RESEARCH NETWORK Sarah facilitates key discussions between industry and the Clinical Research Network and is a point of contact for the life sciences companies engaging with the Clinical Research Network. Sarah is able to provide advice to companies on how they are able to tap into the Clinical Research Network services to ensure clinical studies are set up quickly and efficiently to ensure they recruit to time and target. With a degree in Medical Biochemistry, Masters in Human Nutrition and PhD in Clinical Nutrition, Sarah has worked with the Clinical Research Network for the past six years. Sarah s first role with the CRN was to support national clinical leads across a range of therapeutic areas. Prior to working with the Network Sarah worked as a clinical researcher for over 10 years delivering a range of studies in both community and hospital settings. DR ANDY NORRIS, CONSULTANT ANAESTHETIST AND HON.ASSOC. PROF, NOTTINGHAM HOSPITALS AND THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM A Liverpudlian, trained in Sheffield, Toronto and Nottingham, he has been a Consultant at NUH for 20 years. Long interest in education, airway management teaching and research. Lead Investigator on NIHR i4i project with P3 Medical and University of Nottingham to develop smart endotracheal tube (itraxs) which was runner up in the Association of Anaesthetists 2018 Innovation Awards Jan Andy is on the management board of the University s Health Tech Research Priority Area, and the Centre for Health Technology and is SBRI panel member for Technology in Surgery awards

3 DR JENNIFER MARTIN, SENIOR PROGRAMME MANAGER, NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH RESEARCH MINDTECH MEDTECH Jennifer has worked in the healthcare technology field for more than 15 years and is currently Senior Programme Manager of the NIHR MindTech MedTech Co-operative. Prior to this, Jen was Senior Research Fellow in Human Factors at the University of Nottingham where her research focused on the development and evaluation of medical devices and digital healthcare technology. Jen is a member of NHS England s Expert Reference Group for Digital Innovation and Adoption and is also an advisor to NICE as part of their work on accreditation of mobile health apps. DR MARIA KOUFALI, DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH & INNOVATION, NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST Maria leads the Research and Innovation Department in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust since Her work includes the development and implementation of the Trust s Research and Innovation Strategy and Service ( 35M annual budget, a total of over 250 delivery and management staff). Following the award of the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre and Clinical Research Facility, she has been focusing on developing partnerships across the NHS, charity, academia, Life Sciences and Medtech sectors. Maria has extensive direct research experience in both preclinical and clinical research and an MBA.

4 ROB CHESTERS, SENIOR INNOVATION & RESEARCH MANAGER, NHS ENGLAND Rob joined the NHS National Innovation Centre in 2012 to work as an Innovation Development Manager. Rob s primary role is to support innovators who are working with the NIC to take them through the NIC development process from idea to reality. In recent years Rob has worked on a number of Innovation initiatives which support industry and healthcare professionals to realise new ideas. Rob also has specific expertise and knowledge of Telecare and Telehealth which aim to support healthcare delivery in the home. Rob has worked on projects with the Technology Strategy Board and the Knowledge Transfer Network to support the development of these new technologies. With a background in Industrial Design specialising in Medical Product design, Assisted Living and Inclusive Design Rob has an expert knowledge of the design process. DR SARAH BOLTON, BUSINESS MANAGER, CENTRE FOR HEALTHCARE EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY ADOPTION (CHEATA) Sarah is the Business Manager for CHEATA. She is an experienced research scientist with a background in academic and clinical inflammation research where she undertook her post-doctoral studies on inflammatory mechanisms in the brain and mechanisms of eosinophil activation in asthma. She joined AstraZeneca in 2004 as an Experimental Pathologist in the Respiratory and Inflammation Therapy area, specialising in COPD and asthma. After leaving AZ, Sarah worked as an independent consultant continuing the experimental pathology work for a range of academic and commercial clients. More recently she was responsible for Healthcare and Medical Devices at Pera Technology, a role which included client engagement and management, project planning, management and delivery as well as bid writing for major UK and EC funding bodies.

5 DR TERESA GRIEVE, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT & DIRECTOR OF DERBY CLINICAL TRIALS SUPPORT UNIT, DERBY TEACHING HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST Teresa is the Assistant Director of Research & Development at Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Derby Hospital. Teresa runs the Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit (DCTSU) that supports organisations who want to run clinical trials of their products in the NHS. DCTSU was established in They work with major healthcare companies, Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Clinical Research Organisations to design, advise, and to manage and monitor clinical trials of their products. Studies are set up to ensure compliance with UK and EU legislation relating to clinical trials and clinical research. The team is experienced and qualified in designing, setting up, managing and conducting clinical trials. They offer a wide range of services to SMEs wishing to conduct a clinical trial within NHS. DR TANYA MCCALLUM, HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGIES PROGRAMME MANAGER, CENTRE FOR HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGIES Tanya manages the Centre for Healthcare Technologies, a collaboration between the University of Nottingham and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. She spent the first 15 years of her career in the railway sector, first as a consultant aerodynamics engineer, and then in strategic research and innovation management and partnership development at Rail Safety and Standards Board, supporting the industry s 9m pa R&D programme. Her role in facilitating collaboration between industry and academia led to a move to the University of Nottingham in 2013 to manage the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account and she has spent the last year enjoying getting to know the healthcare sector and the exciting opportunities for innovation.

6 DR NEIL BARNES, PROJECT LEADER INNOVATION, MEDILINK EAST MIDLANDS LTD Neil has many years experience in Bioscience and Healthcare business. Following studies in Biology (BSc) and enzyme biochemistry (PhD) and, sometime later, Masters in Business Administration (MBA) he has worked in organisations from the very large to very small, and in 5 different countries. He has a deep and broad experience of creating and running businesses in areas of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetics and biosciences. Neil also runs business related Masters courses at 2 local universities and is a participant in several EU funded projects.
