9 Public-Private Partnership A*CAR is part of the Inter-Agency concerted effort to attract Automotive OEMs & Tier 1 companies to carry out R&D activities and develop their new products with local suppliers in Singapore. 10 A*CAR Overview & Objectives To initiate an Automotive Consortium, and it will be a platform to: Engage automotive industry with R&D community to drive innovation Carry out basic-directed and applied research work with strong industry participation in the automotive domain Allow sharing of resources Keep abreast with the technological challenges in advanced automotive technologies Form value-chain between automotive OEM, Tier 1 companies, and the local PE industry Form an international network with some of the leading Automotive consortia like AutoSAR (Europe) and USAutoPARTS (USA)

14 Project 1: Smart Beam Scanning for Dual Modes Vehicular Radar Develop electronic beamsteering hardware and algorithms for millimeterwave Short Range Radar (SRR) & Long Range Radar (LRR) in vehicles, for collision avoidance, overtaking in lanes, parking, etc. This should lead to better road safety and help to enhance the thrill of driving. 15 Project 2: In-Vehicle Unit Based Congestion Management of Roadway Networks Develop a hybrid approach using GPS and mobile base-stations for robust vehicle location identification to make virtual gantry electronic road pricing more robust and feasible.
