3 What? Mindfulness - Definition. What it is, what it isn t. History of Modern Mindfulness movement, especially as it relates to Health and Health Care (Dr Jon Kabat- Zinn, Massachusetts General Hospital & MBSR). Research evidence for the positive effects of Mindfulness on health and wellbeing. How does this work? Neurobiology of stress and mindfulness. Guided exercise, awareness of breath. 4 What is mindfulness? Paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally, with curiosity and kindness, to what is going in your body, your mind and world around you. (Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn) attention, awareness, relationality, caring..universal (innate) human capacity

16 In local health care settings JHH Mindful Mondays in May (Dr Susannah Ward) JHH Ongoing Drop In : Mondays pm (now pm); Thursdays pm Smaller invited group sessions with different departments and health sites (eg pharmacy, community health, ICU..)

17 Thank you so much for organising these sessions. I feel they are so valuable considering the high stress environment of the hospital that we all work in. These sessions have started me on a pathway of mindfulness and have assisted me in dealing with workplace stress at a time when it was definitely needed. I am so glad that these sessions are continuing and feel that this is a proactive approach any employer could adopt in assisting employees with workplace and life stress.

18 JHH Mindful Mondays in May: Feedback Feeling less stress, both at home & at work. Able to breathe easier, thank you. It supported me in my role & continuing to mindful throughout the day. I was able to remind myself to breath before making decisions and to stop every now and then and breathe. It has made me more aware to stop and breathe when it gets hectic. Made it easier to focus on one task and control stress to think better. To sometimes just stop, breathe and think, do not be so quick to react.

19 I think being mindful made me realise that I was stressed and needed to make changes to my lifestyle. Reminder to take a breath and be less reactive to triggers, e.g. not to be swamped by the negativity that rises from within and assails from others. Gave me a tool i.e. a prompt of moments in the day when I can be 'mindful'/ regroup myself. Remembered the S.T.O.P moments.
