2 TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MOMBASA A BRIEF INTRODUCTION Started as the Mombasa Institute of Muslim Education (MIOME), 1948 Became Mombasa Technical Institute (MTI), 1966 Transited to Mombasa Polytechnic, 1972 Elevated to Mombasa Polytechnic University College (MPUC) under the mentorship of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, 2009

3 TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MOMBASA A BRIEF INTRODUCTION It got its charter as Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), 2013, It is one of the newly established Technical Universities in Kenya to promote TVET in addition to the regular courses We a student population of about 9,000 The TUM comprises The Faculty of Engineering and Technology The Faculty of Applied and Health Sciences School of Business

6 INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH INNOVATION & EXTENSION Falls under the DVC Academic, Research & Extension Operationally, it is run by a Director Its main mandate is to coordinate research, innovation and extension activities in the University It is here that we promote transition of projects from research to extension

7 INSTITUTE OF RESEARCH INNOVATION & EXTENSION Under the above mandate, IRIE announces for: Calls for research proposals for funding with university resources & facilitates competition for external funds; We support our staff & student participation in conferences & publication of their works
