2 About the National Academy of Inventors Founded at USF in 2010 A 501(c)(3) non-profit member organization U.S. and international universities, and governmental and non-profit research institutes 3,000 individual inventor members and Fellows spanning more than 200 institutions The NAI mission is to recognize and encourage inventors with patents issued from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, enhance the visibility of academic technology and innovation, encourage the disclosure of intellectual property, educate and mentor innovative students, and translate the inventions of its members to benefit society.

3 USF Chapter of the NAI The USF Academy of Inventors began in 2009 with 131 members at a luncheon to recognize inventors USF became the Founding Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors Today, the USF Chapter has over 400 regular and honorary members, and is the largest chapter in the NAI

4 USF Chapter of the NAI Initiatives Services as USF Young Innovator Competition Preliminary Judges Semi-annual workshops for training in Technology, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Sponsor partner seminars and workshops in conjunction with USF Patents and Licensing Serve as judges and mentors in STEM and innovation-related events and competitions

5 USF Young Innovator Competition Annual competition since 2007, which recognizes Tampa Bay area youth innovators in seven surrounding counties Final competition is held each year at USF on Edison s birthday Members of the USF Chapter of the NAI serve as preliminary judges

6 Semi-annual Workshops for Training in Technology, Innovation & Entrepreneurship "Building Your Business: Success Stories from Entrepreneurial Leaders Presenters: Mike Meidel, Ron Klein, and Laszlo Radvanyi "Collaborative Innovation From Ideas to Action: Panel discussion with Leaders of Tampa Bay's Incubators & Accelerators Presenters: Mark Sharpe, Steve Allen, Tonya Elmore, and Linda Olson

7 Annual Chapter Luncheon The USF Chapter of the NAI hosts an annual luncheon each fall honoring its members. Highlights include: Induction of new and honorary members into the chapter, including new patent holders and the Young Innovator Competition winner Display all issued USF patents from past year Presentation of the Excellence in Innovation Faculty Awards Unveiling of new member bricks in USF Inventors Commons

8 Excellence in Innovation Awards The Excellence in Innovation Awards recognize exceptional achievements in technological innovation and its transfer to practice, industrial partnerships, and/or commercialization by USF Faculty. Awards are presented at the Chapter Annual Luncheon.

9 USF Chapter of NAI Membership The USF Chapter of the NAI is open to all members of the USF community including alumni and affiliates who have received an issued patent from the USPTO. Faculty Staff Students Alumni Affiliates Honorary Membership is awarded to leaders who do not have a patent but promote and nurture an inventive culture at USF.
