1. Introduction Meetings and Seminars (and Dissemination activities) Even if formally entitled "Meetings and Seminars", this Deliverable is intended as a complete overview of all the dissemination activities carried out during the whole duration of StaCast Project. These activities can be referred to the following topics: StaCast website, Public meetings, seminars and courses, Technical s & Book, Scientific Papers, Press Releases, Interaction with CEN, Cross-cutting initiatives with other EU Projects. In the next paragraphs, all these activities will be presented, with proper details and information. A description will be also given with respect to "StaCast after StaCast", i.e. to all those dissemination activities which will be performed by StaCast after the end of the Project, aimed at consolidation the main outcomes of the Project itself. 2. StaCast website The structure of the StaCast website has been already presented in Deliverable D5.2. After one-andhalf year of Project, some aspects are certainly worth mentioning. The website has been organised with a proper counter, which evidenced that at the end of the Project the total number of contacts was more than During the last month of the Project, the average number of weekly contacts has been higher than It can be stated that the StaCast website has been a really powerful tool for the information about the project and for the dissemination of its main outcomes. In fact, the website contains a specific page dedicated to Deliverables, on which all the public results of the project are (or are going to be) downloadable (Fig. 1). Figure 1. Deliverables webpage in the StaCast website. 2

The StaCast website has been also a very useful instrument for internal dissemination and exchange of results, as well as for making available all the dissemination-related materials: ppt presentations used in public meetings and seminars, papers and articles related to the Project, photos from events, etc. It has been decided by to keep operative the StaCast website also after the end of the Project, at least for a period of 3 years, to continue its dissemination actions. 3. Public Meetings, Seminars and Courses There have been several initiatives publically present the project, show the outcomes, collecting information and opinions from Industry and Academy. Figure 2 shows the agenda and one photo from the StaCast Project Public Meeting, which was kept in Milano on September 26 th 2013, with the aim of presenting the results of the StaCast Questionnaire (Deliverable D1.1), illustrate structure and contents of the two Drafts of CEN Technical Reports on Defects & Imperfections and on Mechanical Potential, collecting contributions, comments and suggestions from industrial experts, to support the finalization of these two Drafts as Deliverables D2.3 and D persons participated to the meeting, mainly from Italy, with a share of 80% in terms of industrial experts. This document is constituted by a 200 pages book, entitled "Aluminium alloy castings: the EU StaCast guide to defects classification, mechanical potential and design issues". The StaCast book is constituted by four Chapters, substantially based on four of the main Deliverables of the Project: D1.1, D2.1, D3.1 and D4.1: Chapter 1: Public survey on European foundries producing Aluminium alloy castings (authored by F. Bonollo, G. Kral, G. Timelli, E. Fiorese, P. Parona, E. Gariboldi); 10

Chapter 2: Classification and Survey of Defects and Imperfections in Al-alloy castings (authored by F. Bonollo, G. Timelli, E. Fiorese, E. Gariboldi, P. Parona, L. Arnberg); Chapter 3: Survey on Mechanical Potential of Al-based Casting Alloys (authored by E. Fiorese, F. Bonollo, G. Timelli, L. Arnberg, A.C.R. Adamane, W. Leis); Chapter 4: Guidelines for Mechanical Design of Al-alloy cast components (authored by G. Timelli, E. Fiorese, F. Bonollo). The book (Figure 3 shows some example-pages) has an A5 format, so that it can be easily handled also in a foundry environment. It has been provided with an official ISBN number, which is The Chapters of the book will also made available on the StaCast website, to promote and further disseminate the outcomes of the Project. 12 5. Interaction with CEN A key-dissemination activity of the StaCast Project is constituted by the interaction which has been established with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and particularly with Technical Committee on Aluminium and its alloys (TC 132). Such interaction has been widely presented and illustrated in Deliverables D2.2, D2.3, D2.4, D3.2, D3.3 and D3.4. With respect to the aim of the present Deliverable, three specific initiatives are worth mentioning: the official CEN TC132 StaCast meeting, which was held in Milano, on November 2013 (Figure 4 displays the related agenda), to discuss and preliminarily elaborate the drafts of the 2 CEN Technical Reports on defects & imperfections and on mechanical potential; the official launch of the approval procedure for the 2 drafts will be opened in June 2014 (Plenary Meeting of CEN TC132 in Madrid) and will be concluded in September 2014; the final StaCast meeting, which was held in Brussels, on March 2014, at CEN-CENELEC building, with the target of officially present to CEN the outcomes of the Project (Figure 5 displays the agenda); during the meeting, an overview of CEN-CENELEC activities and of their links with R&D EU Projects has been presented by A. Gulacsi (Unit Manager of CEN- CENELEC Research Integration Unit); the preliminary agreement between StaCast and CEN-CENELEC Research Integration Unit, in order to include StaCast into the list of "Success stories" (a list of current EU projects where a standardization partner is active, and mentioned as 'Best Practices' documents); this will subsequently result into the elaboration of a dedicated CEN-CENELEC brochure (an example of it if given in Figure 6). Figure 4. Agenda of the CEN TC 132 StaCast meeting in Milano (November 2013) 12

6. Cross-cutting Initiatives The activity of StaCast had a duration of 18 months. During this period, StaCast developed some cross-cutting initiatives, in the field of Aluminium alloys foundry, aimed at consolidation current and future activities on standardisation. In particular, from October 2012 StaCast interacted with MUSIC project (MUlti-layers control&cognitive System to drive metal and plastic production line for Injected Components, FP7- FoF-ICT , PROJECT n , MUSIC is a highly interdisciplinary project (4 years duration: ), particularly addressed ad developing new tools for the optimisation of Aluminium alloys products, manufactured by means of high pressure diecasting. Three of StaCast (GTA, DTG and ASSO) are also of MUSIC Consortium. The general relationship between the two projects, as displayed in Figure 7, has been approved by the Steering Committees of both StaCast and MUSIC. Figure 7. General interactions between MUSIC and StaCast Projects The four main outcomes of StaCast, i.e.: survey of EU production of Al cast components, with particular attention paid at Standardisation issues, elaboration of a draft CEN Technical Report on Defects & Imperfections classification for Aluminium alloys castings; elaboration of a draft CEN Technical Report on Mechanical Potential of Al foundry alloys; dedicated guidelines and engineering rules to be employed in design and manufacturing chain of Al alloys cast components by mechanical designers and foundrymen. have been already valorised in the frame of MUSIC project. In fact (Figure 8): from the survey of EU production of Al cast components, data have been extracted and elaborated by MUSIC, to achieve the specific description of EU production of Al HPDC cast components (which has been implemented into Deliverable D1.1 of MUSIC), the approach introduced in the draft CEN Technical Report on Defects & Imperfections classification has been adopted and already implemented into Deliverables D1.2 of MUSIC, and will be used for quality evaluation of MUSIC prototypes and demonstrators, 14

the official contacts established among the common MUSIC and StaCast and both the CEN-CENELEC Research Integration Unit and the CEN Technical Committee 132 (Aluminium and aluminium alloys) will be improved. Figure 8. Detailed view of interactions between MUSIC and StaCast Projects Thanks to the experience gained with StaCast, the Standardisation activities of MUSIC have been better focussed: it has been clarified that the best tool for effectively developing a Standardisation Document in the field of Aluminium alloys is that of CEN Technical Report; the DoW of MUSIC was correspondingly modified, by re-defining the titles and activities of Task T7.3, which is now "T7.3 CEN Technical Documents on injection processes"; the "know-how" about the procedure for the elaboration of CEN TRs has been achieved, and will be used for the CEN TRs which will be targeted by MUSIC; it has been agreed that MUSIC will monitor the procedure for approval of the two TRs elaborated by StaCast (such procedure, after the positive results of Internal and Informal Internal Enquiries carried out by CEN TC 132, will be launched on June 2014 with deadline on September

7. StaCast after StaCast (i.e. Dissemination continues after the end of the Project) In the opinion of StaCast, the Dissemination of outcomes will continue well beyond the end of the Project. Some of the already planned dissemination activities ("StaCast after StaCast") have been mentioned in previous sections: StaCast website will be kept operative for some years, Scientific Papers will be published in next months in International Journal of Metalcasting, Scientific Papers will be presented in May 2014 (71 st World Foundry Congress in Bilbao) and in June 2014 (14 th International Conference on Aluminium Alloys in Trondheim), the StaCast book will be delivered and continuously promoted towards European Aluminium foundries, the CEN procedure for approval of the two StaCast draft Technical Reports will be launched in June 2014, a CEN-CENELEC brochure on StaCast as "Success Story" will be prepared, the cross-cutting interaction with the MUSIC Project will continue up to Apart from these initiatives, other two are worth mentioning. In June 2014, there will be in Verona the 10 th edition of the International Exhibition METEF (Figure 9, dedicated to the Aluminium and innovative metals production chain. Conceived as the exhibition dedicated to the Aluminium industry, over the years, METEF has completed the business sectors represented, including all metals and completing the production chain with: FOUNDEQ international foundry equipment exhibition, METALRICICLO, dedicated to the industrial recovery and recycling of materials, and ALUMOTIVE, the exhibition dedicated to innovative solutions, components, and technological materials for the original equipment used in the transport industry. METEF 2014 and the parallel exhibitions aim to increase the number and quality of contacts thanks to the collaboration with industry associations Amafond, Cemafond, and Assomet. More than 400 exhibitors will be present. The event is expected to be visited by more than specialized persons from all around the world. In the frame of METEF, a Seminar dedicate to StaCast and to its outcomes will be organized by FACE. Figure 9. METEF Exhibition 16

On April 2014, an article specifically dedicated to StaCast will be published on the International Innovation magazine (Figure 10), by Research Media. This printer adheres to Creative Commons Attribution license to accelerate the barrier-free dissemination of scientific knowledge. All its publications and e-books can be read, downloaded, printed and distributed at no charge for the reader, with higher visibility and increased cross pollination of articles. The magazine will be distributed to subscribers, researcher referrals, free online website, library repositories. The audience is over 30,000 globally and consists of politicians, members of the public, industry, NGO s, researchers, heads of lab, students, young research fellows from both academia and industry (European Commission, National Research Councils, National Funding Councils/Agencies, University and Academic Agencies, Joint Research Centres, National Contact Points, Researchers, Project officers, Scientific officers). Full project contact details will be included in a summary panel at the end of the article to drive policy, methodology or partnership enquiries and build a unique stakeholder group in the area. Search engine optimization of the electronic of the article hosted on Research Media website will link in to Google and Yahoo to make sure StaCast project article has the highest possible impact. Figure 10. Cover of International Innovation Magazine and pre-print of the article on StaCast The organization of other public meetings and seminars is in progress; during these events the outcomes of the Project will be described. They can be mentioned: - the Foundry Seminar in Aalen (May 2014), - the Course on "Design of HTDC Dies" (Bergamo, May 2014), - the Course on "Metallography" (Milano, September 2014). 17
