OMFC Fliteline - Page 2 May meeting Highlights - Beauty Contest The mee ng was brought to order by our president, Terry, and as there was not much else on the agenda for the mee ng, it moved right to the Beauty Contest (see details in following pages - congratula ons to all the entrants). A er the coffee break, the Chase the Ace draw was made, again with no winner - the pot gets bigger and bigger! In the ARF category, a Hell Cat entered by Frank Pilih. Frank extensively revamped plane. the He modified the fuel system by installing a dual tank system for better fuel pressurization to the motor. The landing gear mount was fortified in the wing. New Oleo landing gear will be installed soon. The plane was recovered entirely. BEST OF SHOW and 1st place
...Beauty Contest con nued... In the Previously Flown Category, a Piper Cub J3 entered by Percy Ford-Smith. Percy's passion for flying lies in Floatplanes. He installed pontoons on this craft. He explained in detail what goes into the proper procedure for mounting pontoons on a plane. There are some critical dimensions required. OMFC Fliteline - Page 3 He also explained that there are certain angles between the wing and the floats that must be achieved. He stated that there is a lot of setup time required to get it right. Percy said he put a lot of hours into setting this plane up for flight. 2nd place
...Beauty Contest con nued... In the Self-built Category, a Flying Boat named "Taffy" named after a beloved family cat. The plane was obtained as a fuselage only plane. But even then it was only a partial fuselage. Kris Rumian designed the rest himself by studying other planes of that era and style. He added some of his own creativity to the craft. The wing was his design as well. The landing gear is removable for water takeoff or left in place for flying off runways. There will be some modification to the motor mount and nacelle to provide clearance for the prop rotation. OMFC Fliteline - Page 4 3rd place There is still a bit of R&D left to do on the plane before it is ready to fly.
...Beauty Contest con nued... OMFC Fliteline - Page 5 In the Self-built Category, an Aeronca Sedan 1949 Era. Entered by Adam Foreman. This plane was not built by Adam as he admitted to the audience. However, it is such a beautiful Scale plane we admitted it into the contest. The builder of unknown origin spent countless hours in detailing this plane. We do know that it was modeled after a real Aeronca Sedan from some place in Ontario. It is a collectors plane for sure. Adam is not sure if he will ever fly it. The plane has not been flown to his knowledge. It might just become Adams Hanger Queen and conversation piece. 4th place
