Beach Scene Magnet Board Designed By: Anjii Rempel August 2011 A super fun and fully functional 11 x14 magnet board to brighten up your fridge, office, college dorm or to gift. Also makes a great play board for kids! Instructions Step 1 Start with your magnet board, paintbrush (that you can throw away), Crystal Effects and Pool Party, Marina Mist and Island Indigo ink refills. Make a small mark on the edges of the board at 4-½ from the bottom, and 3-¾ from the top, so you know how much space to fill with your water. Place drops of Crystal Effects and ink refills, using the pictures below for reference. Use your paintbrush to spread the drops out in a wave-like design. Repeat the process, with fewer dots of Marina Mist, and then with Island Indigo (you shouldn't need to add any more Crystal Effects with the Indigo). Let this dry at LEAST overnight. Two nights are best, if you have time. You can work on the rest of the project in the meantime.
Step 1 Step 2 Cut your Crumb Cake card stock to 9-¾ x 5-¼. Round the bottom corners with the 3/16 Corner punch, and hand tear approximately 1/4 off the top. Next, using your Stampin' Around Wheel Guide, Standard Handle (with no cartridge) and Sandy Speckles wheel, ink the roller up on your VersaMark pad, and make your rows from the top down (so you don't smudge them with the Wheel Guide). Lastly, use the Soft Suede Stampin Pastel with the sponge applicator, and smudge it at the top, on your torn edge. This is your sand. Step 2
Step 3 Next, using the surf boards stamp from the Summer Splash stamp set, ink up the wave and sun surf boards using Island Indigo and Pumpkin Pie Stampin Write Markers. Stamp on Whisper White card stock. Then, using your Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement, stamp them again with VersaMark ink and emboss them with your Heat Tool and Clear embossing powder. Cut the surf boards out leaving a white border around them and glue on to the sand using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Using the pail and shovel stamp, color the sand line with a Soft Suede marker, and the pail and shovel with the VersaMarker. Stamp on the bottom right corner of the sand, and emboss using Tempting Turquoise embossing powder and your Heat Tool. Then, with the shell stamp and Soft Suede marker, stamp each shell randomly a couple times on the sand. Step 3 Step 4 Cut your Pool Party card stock to 9-¾ x 4-1/8 and punch the top corners as on the Crumb Cake piece. Then sponge the straight edge with Pool Party ink so it blends into the water layer.
Step 4 Step 5 Now, we'll prep our three layers for application. Cut your Window Sheet to 9-¾ x 4-½ and cut a piece of Sticky Sheet to match. Match up the edges, and carefully stick them together. Then use your Bone Folder to smooth it out, and get any large air bubbles out. Repeat this process with the Crumb Cake card stock and the 9-3/4 x 5 Sticky Sheet, and Pool Party card stock and the 9-3/4 x 4-1/8 Sticky Sheet. The only difference is, for the Crumb Cake piece, the Sticky Sheet will adhere just below the torn edge. Use a hobby blade to cut the Sticky Sheet off of the rounded corners on these layers. Step 5
Step 6 Let's do the magnets now, while the water is drying. Using VersaMark ink, stamp the octopus on Island Indigo card stock, the turtle on Lucky Limeade and the fish on Calypso Coral. Use Clear embossing powder and a Heat Tool to set these. Then cut out a square around them, and a same size piece of Sticky Sheet. Cut a 4 x 1-½ strip of Tempting Turquoise dot pattern from the Patterns Designer Series Paper (DSP) stack, and Sticky Sheet to match. Do the same with a 2-½ x 2-½ square of Daffodil Delight dot pattern DSP. Now adhere these onto a cardboard, so they'll be durable as magnets. I used one of the divider boards in the package of Window Sheets. This was the perfect thickness. Sturdy, but still able to cut and punch through. Cut around the general shape of the animals. Step 6 Step 7 Next, use the Cupcake Builder punch to punch out your clouds (it takes a bit of effort, but it will go through). Run the Daffodil Delight square through the Big Shot, with the smaller of the Scallop Circles #2 die. Then use the 1/2 Circle punch on Pumpkin Pie card stock for the center of the sun. Glue this on with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Last, dab Crystal Effects on the button magnets and spread it around. Glue them to the back of the animals. Let these dry overnight before using them on the board.
Step 7 Step 8 We're almost done now! Once your water is dried to at least being just tacky, you can stick your prepped Window Sheet on top of it. Make sure you line up the placement BEFORE you take off the red backing! Use your Bone Folder again to smooth it out. If there is any excess, just trim it off with a hobby blade so it can lay flat. Next, with the Crumb Cake layer, add some tiny dots of Crystal Effects to adhere the torn edge. Then line up the bottom corners, take off the red backing and smooth it on. Repeat with the Pool Party layer. Once that's stuck into place, take a sponge and a White Craft ink pad, and gently sponge on some clouds to give the sky a bit of texture. Step 8
Step 9 Last step! Take Sticky Strip, and cover the frame, extending your strips down around the corner and to the back as well, to tack down the ends. Cut four 15-½ and four 12-½ strips of Island Indigo 3/8 Ruffle ribbon. Lay them out, so that the corners have a basket weave as shown. Starting with the inner edge, take off the red backing, and carefully stick the ribbon down, making sure to cover the inner edge of the frame completely, and to leave the ends open for weaving in the alternating ribbon. Follow with the outer edge, and once they're woven together, wrap the ends around the corner and to the back. Once that's done, all that's left is to wrap Sticky Strip around the side edges, and over the ribbon ends on the corners. Then wrap a 41 length of ribbon, around the frame (starting and ending at the bottom) and trim where they meet. Once your magnets are dry, stick them on and have fun! Step 9
